i've done work with dynamic .flvs (streaming and prog dl) but never really embedded an .flv in the timeline.
now i've got three of them embedded and i need to detect when each has finished playing (they will rotate).
I can't seem to find any good info on how to control playback on an embedded flv (i chose to embed them inside movieclip symbols).
I got myself an assignment which requires me to add buffering and few other video related functions to a flash file that uses embedded video( on the timeline).
this swf is about 30-40Mb in size and it loads quite a while.
what i need to do is to detect when the video stops playing, runs out of buffer, but i dont know how do i listen to the netstream events if there is no netstream on embedded video.
I'd like to gain read only access to the following parameters of embedded Flash videos located on sites that I do not own through my own custom browser extension/add-on:
Time location of playback head (so I can display the current time in the browser extension via HTML5/JavaScript) Frames (so I can make capture them to an image file, save it and display image in browser extension) Original Dimensions in pixels (so I can display the original video dimensions via JS/HTML5 in browser extension)
Is this possible by using Javascript and HTML5 from a browser extension?
Would I have to use something like the SWFObject Javascript API [URL]
Is there a way (in javascript) to detect if an embedded .swf was created with Flash Professional or Flex.We have a page with several tabs, each of which can contain an .swf.All tabs are defined within the same HTML file and the javascript framework calls a .rewind() and .play() on the swf when the containing tab becomes active.This works great on regular flash animation, making sure they start playing from the beginning when the tab is opened. On an swf created with Flex however, the rewind and play wreak havoc on the Flex framework and the application doesn't load.
The best way we've come up with to detect Flex is to count the number of frames the .swf has. With flex that's always 2. But this doesn't sound like the best way.We've also tried to add a callback method with ExternalInterface on the Flex application preinitialize event.Unfortunately this event is called quite late in the application startup and the javasctipt code checks the callback before the Flex code has added it.
My app does the following:enumerate fonts installed on the clients machine, and populate a dropdown list with them present a s:TextArea with special characters (like äöü)update the TextArea's font family to the one selected in the dropdown After it updates, there seems to be three possible results: the correct glyph, a blank space, or a fallback glyph in a device font (seems to be _serif, though the CSS style is _typewriter). My goal is to programmatically detect whether a device font supports all the glyphs in a chosen user font.
I have tried getBounds on various children (to detect 0 width, etc.), getting info about atoms, and comparing fontFamily for a correct glyph against fontFamily for a blank or fallback glyph. For formatting changes that dispatch a UpdateCompleteEvent or CompositionCompleteEvent, i am always doing my checks after it completes.
Is there any way for a Flash component to look up the URL of the website it is embedded in? For example, if I embed a YouTube video on my website, does Google have any way of knowing who referred to them?

I need to be able to detect when JQuery resizes the embedded movie so I can trigger a function in my Flash movie. I created a function which detects if Stage.width or Stage.height has changed but this only works when I resize the window after pressing Ctrl+Enter in Flash Pro and not on the webpage.

I have tried adding video to dynamic page and everything is perfect .This video I have imported using the option File ->import video -> external video with playback component. If I try to execute flv on another system , the video is not playing eventhough it is in library.
So, I have imported video using the option of embedded video and this worked fine on another systems as it embeds video. The video plays for only 2 min 54 sec. I have compressed the bit rate to how much ever I can in premier pro. It resulted in reducing the size of the file but still I see the video occupying more than 3500 frames in the timeline. I feel this is not optimal.
using flash8 and i have a netstream object streaming progressive video... how do i detect the flv is complete? using buffer.flush doesnt work how i need as it flushes the buffer slightly before the video is finished.

Here is an image that shows the problem and the CSS. I have tried setting the z-index of the video to -1, 1 etc. So my question is, how do I force the flash video to appear below the play list?

View 2 RepliesI have a .flv playback player embedded in the 1st frame of my flash CS4 AS3program which calls in a video clip called carrie_mc as soon as the program starts. When the video is finished playing it disappears off the stage which is all good and is as it should be. Where I am having a problem is that I want my code to detect when the video is finished playing so that I can display a text box with further instructions to the user. I am using the following code to detect when the flv is finished and have added a trace statement to see verify if it is working. Although there are no error messages the code doesn't seem to be working as I do not see the trace message in the output cue. How can I detect when a movie clip has finished playing using CS4 AS3?

my question today deals with Flash AS3 video buffering. (Streaming or Progressive) I want to be able to detect when the video is being buffered, so I can display some sort of animation letting the user know to wait just a little longer.
Currently my video will start up, hold on frame 1 for 3-4 secs then play. Kinda giving the impression that the video is paused or broken :(

NetStatusEvent from livedocs. It seems to me that the key status to be working in is "NetStream.Buffer.Empty" so I added some code in there to see if this would trigger my animation or a trace statement. No luck yet, however when the Buffer is full it will trigger my code :/ Maybe my video is always somewhere between Buffer.Empty and Buffer.Full that's why it won't trigger any code when I test case for Buffer.Empty?

I've got video that loads from an external source (not streaming though) and would like to be able to detect when the video has stopped playing. The video starts playing when the user clicks the "Play" button, but when it has finished, I want Flash to display an image, so I need to know when it has gotten to the end.BTW: it's likely to be MPEG video too(!) as new content will need to be dumped into the external video folder by someone who does not have Flash nor the ability to create FLV. If this is only possible with FLV (and I know it is -- I've seen other posts on this forum about that) then maybe I should tell this person to get software to enable them to convert videos to FLV before dumping them in the folder)

View 1 RepliesThis is driving me nuts folks. I've imported a video clip to my stage, added a skin for stop, play, pause etc. I test the Flash file using Control --> Test Movie and everything appears exactly as I want it to.
The problem is that when I upload the files to my server the embedded video clip does not appear, nor does the skin. Just a blank space

Those videos look very good and crispy when played in quicktime player. View 1 RepliesI have created a preloader, to load a single swf file, that has embedded video and sound.It works when I test it, using Air 2.6 settings. But when I compile it, the swf plays, but the sound and video are missing in the swf. I addded the swf, the mp3, and flv files to be included in the Air app. Do I need to add a reference to them as well in the code, or is there some other reason they may not be appearing? Do I need to load the src files into the library of the preloader?
If I play the original swf, that is being called and loaded, it plays with the sound and video. The original swf, the sound src and the video src are all in the same directory with the preloader.fla.
Here is my code for the preloader. It is all in frame 1 of my flash file.The file does not have anything else, other than the dynamic text instance "percent" on the stage.

Does anyone know of any tutorials that explain how to make a seek bar with a handle that will be linked to the main timeline, so that when you move the handle the animation will move too, e.g. if you drag the handle to the centre of the bar then it will skip to the middle of the animation?
I currently have a handle that move on the x axis with in a set boundary, but not sure how to link it to the main timeline.
I would like to play a video in full screen. This is no problem when the swf resides embedded in a HTML document on itself, but..
..now it's loaded into another swf file called 'container.swf' (look at picture A).When the fullscreen function is called from within the swf file that contain the video and the fullscreen button, it goes to picture B. The other two swf files (swf1 and swf2) also goes into fullscreen. My desired result would be picture C.The video goes fullscreen within it's own swf file and does not "take over" the whole screen.
I have been working on a project, its a digital portfolio. Now I have the Host Movie and and then I have a submovie which is loaded into the Host movie. That all works fine!

Either through actionscript and/or a transparent button, I want the movie to repeat endlessly on rollover and stop on rollout. I understand the basics of how buttons and movieclips work, but I have not been able to convert the embedded video into a movieclip to make this easy.
