how to get rid of an instance of a movie clip in the following Scenario. I have tried several methods, e.g., setProperty _visible to false, and the setProperty _scale to 0 (below). But none of these methods really get rid of instance; it merely hides them.

I want to load an instance into a empty movie clip on my scene1. On scene1 I have an empty movie clip empty_mc. In my library I have a jpeg I converted into a symbol. I through the symbol onto stage1 and gave it an instance name of jpeg_1. I want the empty Movie clip to load jpeg_1. I thought it was something like this.

How do I access an object (in this case a button) within an instance of a movie clip on the stage?Basically I want to listen for a button (but_1) within the movie clip instance (menu_bar_1) which is set on the stage of my main movie.I want to use that same movie clip in several different parts of the main file, and each time the button will play a different sound.

I have my actionscript codes enterd on the first frame of the mainTimeline.but my knowledge on actionscript 3 is so short I couldn't control the mainTimeline from the instances which I have created as buttons by actionscript coding.Here's what I'd like to do: When one of the movieclip instance is clicked and onEnterFrame,I want another movie clip instace to play which is on the mainTimeline (or "root" or "stage") on top of everything.I even tried to loadMovie and addChild to the stage onEnterFrame of the movieclip instance, but since it does the loadMovie inside instance stage, it appears only on top of the same movie clip instace and not on top of everything else.how to control a movie clip instance on mainTimeline inside the movie clip instance onEnterFrame in AS3.

Building a dynamic map that displays State Senate districts for a US State. Each district is a movie clip that I want to manipulate from a ColorTransform perspective on the flash map. The data that drives the map is being pulled from a php/mysql script. I have built out the actionscript up to the point of being able to trace the name and desired highlight color of the Senate district passed from the php (the passed name corresponds to the movie clip instance name of the district on the flash map). The traces work fine as far as the values of the data passed, one field is the district and the other is the color for the transform. The .as file compiles on the test, but will not treat the variable name used for the passed district as anything other than a String. I get an Error #1069: Property transform not found on String... Have gone through adobe reference pages and have tried every method of type conversion I could find to no avail. I get coerce errors on most attempts to force the String to be an Object.

I've started to Flash again after a long time. I'm excited. Whatever, my problem is simple. I want to reach a instance name from a movie clip. For example, I made a movie clip that has 2 frames. Name of the second frame is "secFrame". There's a movie clip inside the frame(i'm talking about the frame that named as "secFrame") that has a instance name as "mcSecFrame". Also the instance name of the main movie clip is mcMain. Now, the problem is, how I can control the mcSecFrame instance name with the code that is written on the mainTimeline's frame? For example, I want to control its frame rate. I wrotethis:mcMain.secFrame.mcSecFrame.frameRate = 5;But it doesn't work.

Nice to be back to this forum again. I need to know if instances of the movieclip, that is "classically tweened" are reused between keyframes, or are they recreated (reinstantiated). Thus may I rely on the fact, that only the properties of one single instance change during the classic tween, or are new instances created on entering keyframes?
My little experiments on that show that the bad variant is happening (instances are recreated), but maybe I misunderstand or misuse something? here is the link to the file which made me doubt (CS4). In the last frame of the animation all previously saved references to the instance are saved abnd compared in pairs. Not all of them are equal and sometimes event some are null.[URL]...

i'm creating a flash news scroller that accesses an external file to read news headlines.I've created the main system which works roughly as follows.The main movie clip reads the external headlines & related article texts from a file (using loadvariables) and puts them into an array.I loop over the array creating several new instances of a movie clip (lets call it "news_piece"), placing one above the other. "News_piece" contains 2 text fields called "Headline" and "Article", so i change the contents of these fields for each instance of the movie, retrieving the contents from the array.The outer movie then scrolls the lot.
Now comes the difficult bit...stay with me... sometimes the headlines can be 1, 2 or 3 lines in length. So, if I want the article text to start directly below the headline, I guess I'll have to move the lower Text field ("Article") a bit higher/lower in that particular instance of the "News_piece" movie.So, to summarize, I wanna move the co-ordinates of a text field in an instance of a movie clip

I want to make a new instance of an existing symbol (movie clip or graphic) when an object hits the side of the stage. I have the code to figure out if it hit the side of the stage, i just need to know how to make a new instance and make it show up where the ball hit. I also want to be able to have multiple of these instances on screen.

Here is what i want to do contextually. I am making an interactive skeletal diagram of a back, each vertebrae is an independent button. As each button is rolled over, i want a box next to the button to show with the name of the vertebrae inside it.
How I am trying to do it:Each button is independent, as inside it is a bitmap picture of the skeletal section. All of the boxes are instances of a single movie clip located on the same timeline level as the buttons.. instances named BBox1, BBox2... through BBox26. Inside each movie clip i have a symbol that is the box named 'sbox' which is the graphic box that pops up and in the layer above a dynamic text box, named 'ttext' which is populated at runtime with the proper text to reference the button.
I am easily able to reference each sbox symbol individually from outside the movie clip... i.e._root.skel.BBox1.sbox._alpha = 0;.
I am not having the same luck with the ttext dynamic text. I am wanting to set the text inside each instance of BBox progmatically, but the text will not show unless i set it to static and type it manually before compile(in which case the text for all 26 boxes is the same). I have tried all methods of reference, even prepopulating the dynamic text box with text before compiling and it still shows nothing. This does not seem like a coding issue but a use of dynamic text inside a replicated movie clip with unique instance names.

I want to do something like gotoAndPlay(frame label) for a movie clip with the instance name content. I am using an array for my buttons placing multiple instances of the button mc on the stage. When I add content.gotoAndPlay I get an access of undefined property error. If I add it inside the parenthesis I get an expecting identifier before my frame label name error.
