Feb 25, 2011You may have noticed my post yesterday. Well I'm almost done with the little project. I've got a TLF text field with a custom scroll bar AND some buttons attached to it so I'm feeling pretty slick. Unfortunately, I just dont have enough knowledge to make the buttons interact with the scroll bar (as we see in the browser scroll bars or the UIScrollBar)
So I can scroll away AND I can click the buttons to make the text roll. but the buttons don't affect the position of the scroller and that just isn't good enough! If you would care to have a peek and see inside the mind of a newbie I've attached my FLA file and pasted the AC code below. how to make the scroller interact with my buttons.

It uses a back-end made from Java.Anyway, there's a basic chat in the game, where new messages are added to the bottom...pretty much your standard chat window.This is how I do it now:txtArea.verticalScrollPosition = txtArea.maxVerticalScrollPosition;However, that does not always work. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't (oddly enough). I'm looking for a permanent solution. txtArea is the component TextArea (d'uh), and I'm using ActionScript 2.0.

Jun 16, 2003I'm trying to create a scrolling text in Flash MX that will go horizontally from side to side of the stage, each scrolling text will be a number of words each separated of each other by a bullet or small circle. The scrolling text will be a Movie Clip with one single Dynamic text field that will load it's variables from a .txt document, that dynamic field will duplicate it self as many times as the amount of variables on the .txt document.
So I was thinking that if I created variables using a numbers like 1 = word, 2 = another word ect. To whatever numbers of words I want to be displayed on the scrolling text I could use a script on the first frame that could say something like this. (Dynamic text field has a variable called ticker)
loadVaraibles(TickerText.txt, this)
ticker = 1 + "."
Now comes the questions
Can flash read more than one variable in a single .txt file? Or it read on and assume that everything else within the file is just part of the first variable?
If this is possible how can I tell flash duplicate this dynamic text field as many times as the amount of variables on this particular .txt file?
I know this all sound really confusing but I hope that some one can understand me and give me some tips to get this to work or maybe make a simple sample of it and upload it on my server so I can see how can this be done.

Sep 5, 2010I am a complete newbie to Flash. I'm tyring to build a scrolling text box that automatically scrolls. On mouse over, I want the scrolling to stop so users can click on an item in the text box. All of the items will be tied to external hyperlinks. I want to populate the text box with an external file. I've done some searches on Adobe, but haven't found anything that takes me through the whole process.I have the complete Adobe Master Collection. So if this is easier in Flash Catalyst, let me know. I know how to buid a manual scroll box in Flash Catalyst. Could I export this to and add the auto-scrolling?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scrolling HTML Formatted Text In Flash
Jan 13, 2009I'm using the techniques discussed in this thread on ActionScript.org to load formatted HTML text into flash. I also want to scroll said text, and for that purpose I'd like to use Flashscaper's scrollbar. I've run into a bit of a snag, however.
The text displays fine. However, the scrollbar does not appear when initiated and the mask (a red rectangle) can be seen on the right side of the content area; not the entire thing, just a red area about 5-10 pixels wide. The text can be scrolled using the mouse wheel, so the scrollbar functionality is intact. I think this has something to do with the transition within the ContentText function, but when I comment that out, the text doesn't display at all, nor does the scrollbar. Listed below are the three components to this project.

As an update, I did get this sort of working by adding a button that brings in the scrollbar as a separate function. This works after the text's transition has completed. Perhaps I can simply tie the scrollbar function to a timer that fires when the text begins to load?

Jul 1, 2008This is a repost, but I've still not figured out a solution. I have a Flash movie that appears on a webpage. The Flash contains scrolling content ( scrollpane, text field, whatever).
The containing webpage is tall, and therefore also has scrollbars. My Problem: When users try to use the MouseWheel to scroll through my Flash scrolling data, the browser page scrolls as well. It's very annoying.
I would like to be able to have the MouseWheel scroll my Flash scrolling content when it's over the flash, but scroll the webpage when it's not over the Flash.
Does anybody know a way to supress wheel-based browser page-scrolling while my mouse is over a Flash movie??? Is there a way to eat/stop propagation, whatever, of the wheel event in the brwoser, either from Flash or from Javascript?

May 14, 2009Noob question, I hope. I need to create scrolling text areas with rich text format content. I know I can use the textArea component and set the htmlText property but converting all of my RTF to HTML is gonna be a major pain in the @$$. I keep getting into trouble thinking what's mindlessly easy in Director/Lingo is gonna be reasonably simple in Flash/AS3, I hoping this is just my inexperience with Flash getting in the way. Is there an easier way? I thought of embedding a PDF document but apparently that's not an option in Flash either (note: I know how to link a PDF doc, I need this text to display and scroll within the application, not just pop a new window on top).

Making Scrolling Text In CS5?
Feb 4, 2011I have a simple text field that is read only and it's very long, so I just want to use a scrollbar on the right-hand side. I dragged a UIScrollbar component to this text area, I lined it up, same height, and even named the text area as the scrollbar's target, but when I compile the swf, I get a blank scrollbar next to the text and 2 other scrollbars off the the right of the text!!! I also tried adding the scrollbar via code with the same results.

Mar 17, 2009 My boss wanted me to make scrolling images and captions for each image when you rollover them. I made the images scroll by making each image a button and masking those images. I can't seem to get the captions right though.The dynamic text box I am using is inside the mask (because I cannot figure out how to put it on the main time line and make it work). The rollovers work when the dynamic text box is in the mask, but when I scroll through the images, the text scrolls too and some of the captions you cannot even see. I figured that what I need to do is put the dynamic text box on the main time line and not in the mask. But I can't seem to get that to work.Here is the code I am putting on the actual image buttons. My text box instance name is rOver and yes, I did embed the fonts.

Aug 24, 2009below is a link to a super simple movie that I have of text scrolling/moving horizontally across the screen.The only issue I have is at the quality of the scroll/movement. it is inconsistently jerky, sometimes when it first starts getting on the screen and leaving the screen sometime all the time and sometimes when it leaves the screen.I have had this issue with other movies and scrolling things across the screen horizontally I had to increase the frame rate to 30 fps and extend the time line but it never really got to be a smooth scroll.

Oct 12, 2009I need to create a Flash banner. Fairly straight-forward in terms of looks - a long list of services that scrolls from right to left and then loops continuously.
I'm using Flash MX 2004. So far I've created the text - it comes on from the right and leaves on the left. The problem I've got however is how to make this a continuous, seamless loop. When it goes off on the left I can't figure out how to make it come back on from the right.
