ActionScript 2.0 :: Large Interactive Game With Imported External Swfs - Some Of The Functionality Doesnt Work?

Im making a flash project in flash cs3 using As2.It is a large interactive game with imported external swfs throughout,Ive placed the lockroot code in all the external swfs.
When i play the external swfs on their own they play perfectly put when imported into the main.fla they don't work properly,some of the functionality doesnt work properly..As an example I have made a jigsaw game using drag n drop and targets, where the code

if(this._droptarget == "/dropTargetOne")
{
_root.dragger1.gotoAndStop("5");}
}

appears I have problems because the code _root.dragger1.gotoAndStop("5"); doesnt work when imported as an external swf.I've tried using this._parent but no success.So I think the problem is to do with using _root which I was hoping would be sorted with this._lockroot = true;

I'm creating an image scroller in AS2 that pulls images into Flash from an external folder, as determined by an XML file. The program use a MovieClipLoader to load the external images into series of empty, and temporarily invisible, movie clips that are created inside a for loop. Once the attached listener determines that the clips are all loaded, their visibility is turned on and they begin scrolling. Everything had been going fine, until I tried to add functionality to each of the four images that had been loaded. All I want to do is generate a trace statement that says "success" when I mouse over each of the four external images in the scroller. I can use that as a springboard to continue working...

Here is the problem: "Success" IS traced out upon rollover, but only once - when you roll over the last image that was pulled in from the RSS feed and into the for loop. It does not apply to any of the other images. It seems like the functionality on the other images is created but them somehow instantly destroyed or overwritten as the for loop continues to run and the MovieClipListener updates itself. But I am not sure. If this were simply a series of movie clips or images being pulled in from the Flash library, I wouldn't have this problem. However, the external images and the MovieClipLoader are confusing things.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Getting Transitions Between External Swfs To Work?

i've used an empty moveclip and loaded external swfs into it using buttons. Each of the swfs has an intro and outro and uses the transition action script from the tutorial on this website. When I navigate through the site on my computer the transitions work fine, but when I go to the actual uploaded site none of the movies load up. All of the swfs are in the same folder on the site so surely I only need the "the_name.swf" as the path.

IDE :: Why Is Mp3 Imported The File To Fla Library So Large

I have a mp3 file that is 2:30 long and is roughly 5.5mb. How come when I import the file to my fla library it sees it as being 29mb large. My swf isn't large when I compile the project but the fla file jumps from 2mb to 30mb just from adding this sound file. P.S. This site has been a ton of help with different aspects of my flash project.

I made a music Player swf and it works properly by itself.I recently tried to load it into my main FLA for my website by using Import to Library,and then I dragged it from there into my canvas.For whatever reason, upon rendering it does not work at all, it shows up but none of the functions work and the music doesnt play.Also I tried doing it like this:

I made a preloader that would load the Swf and it actually worked and the functions were all there,however there were 2 problems.First problem was that I did not know how to control where it loaded so it was over my main text and not in the right area.Second problem, for whatever reason the preloader would re run and load the SWF again everytime a function went off (like clicking on one of the buttons or rolling over something that had a color tween) which resulted in it loading like a bunch of the same swf and being a problem.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating A Large Grid Matrix Of Interactive Objects?

I am working on a project where I need an interactive matrix of 500x500 clickable lements. I thought this would be an easy task in actionscript3 but boy was I wrong. was able to create a matrix where each element was a Sprite object with attached Mouse click event. But here the performance problems begin. FlashPlayer10 can handle up to 100x100 matrix, but when I increase my matrix I start getting script timeout in browser player... Here is how my "unfinished" matrix looks like.

So how should I approach this problem? I was hoping flash will be able to handle so many elements, but I guess I was wrong. I want to have a pan control to pan around for objects off screen and of course zoom in/out control.It's true I'm not very professional in Flahs and actionscript but a friend who is told me this would be no problem implementing in AS3? I need this in flash as the thing needs to be hosted on website (unless there is a better tool for doing something like this...).

[URL]regarding this tutorial I started my site [URL] to get some trasition effects but im getting somewhat different since the external SWFs take time to load. isn't it better to create "intro and outro" on the same time line instead of loading external SWFs bcos once the movie loaded as a whole will lead to smooth and contineous transitions.

I had to create a menu using array and I had to animate it. With some great expertise from people, I've accomplished that. But now I have a question about OOP, because I'm trying to add functionality to the buttons to load swfs into my main movie. Even though I strictly follow tutorials and exercises, I can't figure out how to reference a variable made in one class to another. For instance, I have index.as, navbar.as, and menubutton.as. I assume I need to add a loader to my index.as. But I can't trace the loader in my other classes. I've been told to effectively accomplish this, it is best to use custom event dispatchers. But I'm lost on how to use them.

I recently created a site using the "Transitions between External SWFs" tutorial for Flash MX 2004. I use this to load the sections of my site into the main movie file. Each section is an External SWF file. When a viewer clicks on a navigation button, the specific external swf move will load and play. Currently, a viewer would need to click on another navigation option to close the current external swf file. I would like to add a close button to each of the external swfs so that a view has the option to close the window without clicking on a naviagtion link.

I'm struggling shaking my old school AS2 mindset here. I've got a main swf which loads a bunch of subordinate swfs. I need my loaded swfs to see some variables in the main. For instance (example simplified for conversational purposes), let's say I've got a swf loading (we'll say littleSwf), which needs to set its rotation based on a variable (we'll say swfRotation) in the main. The rotation code is inside of the little swf. How does that little swf get told / find out what its rotation number is?

I'm importing/loading external swfs into a program, but when I get or set the width/height- it using the entire, unmasked image, and not what is visible.That makes sense, but is there anyway to either discard the masked content(crop), or only get/set the value of size of the visible image?It could be any swf, and I can't control the swf's coming in.I am importing them using flex's mx.controls.image, but have also tried a normal as3 loader with the same problem.

i'm trying to drag something, and on stopdrag it should start a function if certain requirements are fullfilled. I got 2 questions, first, this works good when i drag and stopdrag correctly(the requirements in the if are fullfilled). but if the requirements are not fullfilled i get an error saying that the place i'm referring to cant be null. I know that the problem lies after the || part but dont know how to resolve it. 2nd, isnt there a shorter way of doing these checks? Atm i'm going through alot of parents and getchildats and was wondering if there was another way.

i got an image gallery that reads data from an xml file. this xml formatted data is from a php file. when i open the gallery it loads the 1st image; when i click next it loads the 2nd and so forth... but as soon as it has loaded all the images once, it gets stuck. i dont know what to do. when i had the gallery read directly from an .xml file things were working fine but as soon as it was data from a php file that was xml formatted this problem started to occur.

My removeMovieClip doesn't work onRollOut...Also if somebody can tell me how to change the color of the movie clip onRollover.I have two MC with instance name as loc1, loc2 (stored inside mainMap.map.pan), now when i rollover to these, there is a toolTipMC which displays with title on dynamic text box with instance name "tip" (toolTipMC.tip) and image attached to movie clip with instance name "imgHolder" (toolTipMC.img.imgHolder) and some details showing on dynamic text box with instance name "detail" (toolTipMC.detail).Here is the code:-

I have a weather applet using Flash and XML, its works great, but for some reason when i use a LoadMovie action to pull the SWF into my flash movie, it doesnt work. When i view the Weather.swf on my webserver it works just right. but when i pull Weather.Swf into Home.Swf it doesnt work.[code]i have a MC container on my stage called weather.i think for some reason when embedded its not reading the XML, any ideas?
