ActionScript 2.0 :: LoadVariables - Check If The Text File Words Are Loaded Before It Continues With The Game?
May 19, 2009
I'm loading words from a .txt file to a Flash crossword puzzle. It works perfect locally, but has trouble when uploaded to the web. Sometimes it works, but usualy has trouble loading the words. Is there a way I can check if the text file words are loaded before it continues with the game? This is what I'm using code: loadVariables (myDomain + "words/" + myPuzzle + ".txt", "");
seen a tut on a boggle type game - making words from a selection of letters. You type in a word and then it is checked against the array word list.etc...
I want a mask to go over some words in relation to the percentage of the file loaded. Below it I want text that says 1%, 2%, 3%, etc. (also in relation to the percentage loaded). But when I test it and click "simulate download," the screen stays white for about 10 seconds then goes to frame 2 where my content starts.?! I get no errors, either. PS: on Flash CS5, is TLF text the same as Dynamic? For "percentage," the only two options are Classic and TLF...
I am making a platform game in flash. I have a goal class (the class which contains code for the goal sprite, where when you hit it, it continues to next part of game). Inside the goal constructor, 2 event listeners are added, they are as follows: addEventListener(Event.ADDED, beginClass); addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, eFrame);
The beginClass function is fine, and only runs once, but eFrame is what checks if the player has hit the goal, so it is constantly running. The problem is, once the player hits the goal, eFrame continues to run, while in a menu describing the next scene to the player. My eFrame function is below.
private function eFrame(event:Event):void{ if(hitTestObject(_root.mcMain)){ var lastScore:int = _root.mainScore; _root.mainScore = lastScore; while (_root.lvlHolder.numChildren > 0) { [Code] .....
Frames 2, 3, 4, are frames with just text and a button that display a message to the player, and then the player hits continue. My problem is that eFrame is still trying to be run, but the class has not been instantiated, and the method is causing extreme amounts of lag once the player continues.
I have a website template in which I am trying to change the header text words and menu text words to customize the template. How do I do this in Flash CS4?
I'm creating a little interactive art game in Flash MX 2004 that is based on the old ZORK type interactive text only games, although mine has visual content as well. I've got the script working as far as sending the user to my chosen frames when a reply is typed and the enter key is pressed, but I'm having trouble with my "curse words" feature. What is want is that when the user types a swear word and hits Enter, they will go to the "swear" frame where they are scolded and sent back to the beginning of the game.
I can guess the most likely swear words to be typed, but I'm not sure how to write the script to make Flash watch the input field (variable name is reply) and know when one of the target words is typed, and then send the user to my "swear" frame. This functionality needs to be on just about every frame.
is there a way to capture the Error loading message as a boolean when loading an external file (AS2)? I wanted to make a decision based on the success for loadMovieNum.
The scenario is that I have a file that I am loading with loadMovieNum and all is working successfully.
The circumstance I wish to cover is if the file is missing for any reason, I want to load a placeholder movie.
I have looked at onLoad and onClipEvent(load) but these appear to only be for movieclips and not external files.
Is there a way in AS3 to determine if a loaded sound file is still playing or not? I need to start an animation when a sound starts and stop the animation when the sound is done playing.
I have built an Mp3 player for my site and users are allowed to put their own music into the playlist. The only problem I have run into now is that if the URL becomes invalid later, the player will stop at that song and the user would have to press next to skip to the next song. Is there any way to get the player to do this on it's own?
I have a flash file that has three main buttons on top. When a button is clicked the timeline moves to a that frame (designated with a label) that loads in a particular external SWF corresponding with the button. Those movies are loaded into the same empty movieclip called "presentation"using:loadMovie("splash.swf","presentation"); In one of the external loaded SWF's there is a tween animation (on first frame using TweenLite), that takes place upon loading the SWF. The issue is that when I click a button and go to another frame (which loads another SWF) mid-way through that animation, and come back to that same page with the animation. The animations starts mid-way as if it was running in the back, such as fading in things that shouldn't be faded in yet, etc..? Any clue as to why? EDIT: Maybe this is the cause? The animation code in the first frame of the loaded SWF:
//Animate the bouquet var bFadeIn:Tween = new Tween(bouquet,"_alpha",Back.easeInOut,0,100,1,true); //106.95 bFadeIn.onMotionFinished = function() {
I am using the latest flash player and have a swf file served locally from my dev machine.In one container test app I am able to play the swf and make calls to it, but in my "Real" application the same code path results in com errors (basically it looks like the swf isn;' loading properly)Additionally this is made more challenging because no matter what nonsense I put in the call to put_Movie() the return is ALWAYS S_OK. This is confusing.How am I supposed to determine if the swf file loaded and is working?As a follow-on, what would cause a swf file (the same one) not to load in a different app? The code paths are the same (from what I can tell).Obviousl something is going on, but I am not sure what.How to know when swf file doesn't load rightWhy might it fail in a different container application?
I am trying to make a feed backbox for visitors on my website. I have made the editable text field and scroll bar and set all of my preferences, but when the typing reaches the border on the right of the text field it just continues to type further horizontaly. I can start a new line by pressing enter but I would like it to start a new line on its own when it reaches the boundary.
Im supposed to make a marquee that has curved dynamic text scrolling through it. I used the displacement map filter for this and it almost works. the only problem is that when the dynamic text field gets to a certain x position, the filter stalls, but the text continues to scroll. Im really at a loss. heres what I got so far: [URL]
I'm using flash 5 to develop a dynamic banner. It loads a txt file in an single line text field that moves from right to left, similar an electronic bank display. What I need is to check when the last character of the text loaded gets out of the stage (-x), so I can send the text field to its original position simulating a continuous loop animation. (I could do this using flashMX cause the text field scales according to the text size but I have to use flash5 ).
I have the values load from a file, however the problem i am having is that it isnt selecting the values loaded from the file when i check on the settings. am i using the correct as2 code for it? i even tried using setValue, that is listed in the flash livedocs.
I'm loading an external XML file, with numerous items. Each item has it's own 'description' tag. What I'm trying to figure out is how can I more properly execute this:
- Find multiple keywords in all loaded items, if I find any of the selected keywords how can I fire off a separate function to my project (Example: If I find the word "hamburger" in one of the lets say, 54 loaded entries, how can I tell my flash project "if you find "hamburger", hamburgers = 1). Same thing goes if I find "hamburger" within 4 xml items, and "hotdogs" in 12 of the entries making flash know hamburgers = 4 and hotdogs = 12.
My predicament really is on ruling out numerous incorrect amounts. Example, If one xml item has hamburger three times, and another xml item has hamburger only once, getting only one valid "hamburger hit" (that was cleaver terminology, wasn't it? ) instead of three hits for that one xml item.
So, I'm trying to let flash know, if you notice "hamburger" once, and only once in an xml item, stop counting the hamburgers, and the item's hamburger value is only 1. If the item has no keywords (example, hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelons, soda, blah blah, (lets say a total of 30 keywords) ) do nothing and do not count the item and move to the next for keyword function searching.
I'm looking to make a continues ring of imags that will load from a XML file. So the Flash will have 8-12 images displayed verticly and will have a auto rotate at top and bottom.
I am still using flash MX. I'm pulling random text from a textfile (array.txt) into movieclip instance textbox.[code]All is good, but now my question is if I can have a text effect as well. For example having the random quotes typed out as they appear.
so i search for keywords ofc, but...doing this isn't really my thing:input.text.indexOf("spam") != -1 && input.text.indexOf("more") ! -1 && ... etc I'd like to make it some what like:input.text.indexOf(<database>) != -1
I have my level data saved in a text file for this game I made, I realize that it doesnt allow me to import it into my library, so it cannot be packaged into my finished swf. How can I package the game so that it includes this text file? (really don't want to access it dynamically)
I like to know an easy way to create a text autoscroll (vertical) that worked when the text was loaded from another text file. it can use for news/site update. see the attachment.
i am desiging a news form that read the news from an external text file. I made it ok and with a typewriter effect and it worked great...my only problem is that i want the text that will be loaded from the text file to be links to other pages.
