i have a move clip that is loaded through some action script and i would like to apply a mask to it but i cant seem to figure it out. here is my code and i have a movie clip that i need to use as a mask named "Main_Mask".

ok, here's the deal, i have a mask called [masker], and a movieclip called [fotoframe]
the fotoframe is masked by masker. now i do duplicatemovieclip(fotoframe, "fotoframe"+i, etcetc)and movieclip.setmask(masker) for the just created duplicate, (OK, inside a "while" thingy, among other things)because i want all my duplicates under this one mask. but when i run it, only the last duplicated movieclip is masked... How can i keep ALL duplicates under this one mask?

I'm dabbling with 3D tweens but I've hit a snag. The tween works fine on it's own and also with a simple mask on it. My issue is when I add a second keyframe to the mask layer to create a different shaped mask. When it reaches that frame my 3d tween goes crazy and flies off.

Flash CS4 AS2 Okay -I have a flash movie, and I want to apply a mask to it. The mask I want to apply, or rather, the "shape" of the mask I want to apply is an external image that was made in photoshop. The shape is an irregular one with a bunch of jagged edges. the shape itself is solid, with a transparent background. I've tried saving it as a PNG with transparent b/g, and I've tried importing the PSD file directly into Flash - however - when I go to use this shape for a mask, the mask that is applied is an entire rectangle bounding the imported image - rather than along the edges.Hopefully you can see what I'm trying to do here, and perhaps offer some insight on how I can get this image into flash (let's stick with the idea that the jagged edged manner of the image is too difficult to recreate inside of flash).

I have a movieclip Planet which consists out of a backround (BG) and a mask (PMask). The mask will be changed during gameplay (I add shapes, then draw this to a bitmap and replace the shapes with the bitmap).But for some reason the mask doesnt change along with the mask movieclip(as if it makes a copie of PMask and uses that as the mask instead, so that every change to PMask isnt applied to the mask of BG)This is basically my Planet.as file (I removed the stuff that isn't related):

I have a as3 class that loads a number of images from a given location, they are all loaded dynamically with imageloader. However I'm trying to make a Xray screen for all of them, so when I click and drag the Xray screen around, it will reveal the images loaded under each picture, creating a sort of Xray effect.I tried using masks, however since the images are all loaded dynamically they are its own class with its own layers, I'm trying to make a mask that will work for all of them (I load 2 picture for each image, example car.jpg and carb.jpg, b.jpg being the inside image).so I have my stage ---> [MyXray Box, and my Images

I'm creating a playlist for a music player, and I've got the song names displaying correctly in my songTitle holder MC, but there's limited space for the song names to be shown in, and I'm going to eventually have it inside a scrolling movieclip. Problem is, the text inside the textfields disappear when I try to add a mask to the movieclip they're being loaded into. I've tried adding all combos of embedFonts, antialias, and blendModes I ran into, to no avail.how to mask dynamically created textfields with a non-dynamic (Flash IDE-made) mask.

I have a startDrag function set up on a loader and mask that when the mouse is down on the loader it drags, when not it doesn't. There is also 2 buttons that control whether mask1 or mask2 is used. What i would like however is when the mouse is down - the area of the loader outside of the mask is visible but only by about 10/20% alpha, that way the user can see where all the image is while dragging. Is this possible? Full code can be seen below and i have attached the zip with the .fla file:

what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).

maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0. Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.
how are these guys clipping these images [URL] they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline.

ive gotten one movie clip to mask another in the actions frame but i cant seem to be able to mask the flames which are a shape with a movieclip in this as file. im not getting any errors but the mask isnt covering anything look near the bottom at s.mask=mask_mc; there are about 20 "s" shapes spawning per second if that has anything to do with it

I have just entered Falsh and for some strange reason none of my layers are named. Not only that, when I draw a circle for instance and I want to move that circle. I am making a game and it has falling objects (similar to shooting) and it also has some other random generating objects going to the other direction. So the objects aren't already on the stage. Inside my loop, where i get my XML objects I added a code to draw and add the mask:

the mask looks fine on the stage.now since i name it, i want to use it for other purpose like moving it now i want to actual call myMask

I have a situation where I use loadvars to load an xml file, which has the address of 2 swf's on the server. I can trace the xml items so know they are loading. So I'm trying to load the swf's but am running into problems. First problem, the swf always gives an error when I publish from flash, "TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter url must be non-null." as it can't find the mention of the xml file, as it's just being published. I'm not sure this affects the next issue which is the swf not loading when I try to load it like this:

Novice Flash dev here. I'm having a bit of trouble passing the name of an existing MC on my stage to a new variable and then tweening it. I've tried everything I could find.Here is the set-up:
3 levels of question difficulty: Easy, Moderate, Hard. Each question is a seperate MC in the library.Each question has two strings of text: one normal and one altered.container_MC contains all of the questions.Inside container_MC each frame contains one of the question MCs along with a second MC called highlight.Each of these frames is then labeled with the difficulty of the question and the question number i.e. easyQuestion1.Highlight is a MC containing a box that surrounds the alteration. It is labled the same as the frame +"Highlight" i.e. easyQuestion1Highlight.Each of the highlight boxes has Alpha =0.Each frame also contains the variables that determine the correct answer and the difficulty of the question.NONE of the objects on the stage have been added dynamically with addChild (note the Novice portion of my intro :D).
On my maintimeline I have one instance of container_MC. If the player selects the correct answer the current frames highlight box changes from Alpha =0 to Alpha =1.

i'm making use of scripted control on IK armatures. The wierd thing about ik is that the armatures seem to exist in a disconnected manner from the objects they control, and cannot be found anywhere in the display list under their parent object.
Instead, the only way i've found to get references to runtime armatures, is by accessing them through the ikManager class, with: IKManager.getArmatureByName
This allows me to get them by names which i've manually assigned in the IDE at authortime. I'm only using one actor with armatures at a time right now, but i'm troubled to think of how this will work with multiple instances of the same IK object.
Given that i'm going to be having multiple armatures in existence with the same name simultaneously, how can i tell which one belongs to which object?

I'm building a variable matching game. The player clicks one of four choices and then clicks the answer area. Their choice appears in the area, and if the answer is correct the answer container shifts down, highlighting the next answer area to be filled. Inside the container are a large number of these answer areas (60).
What I am trying to do is have only one be answerable at a time, the highlighted one, so that players can't skip ahead despite seeing the empty spaces left to answer in. What I have right now isn't working, and I could use some outside insight.
