ActionScript 2.0 :: Partial Input Text Formatting At Runtime?

format partial parts of an input text box at runtime. I have seen a few "text editors" around which are built in flash so i am assuming it is posible but i would like to know the extent of developement on this. My idea is much more simple than the text editor.
Basically i just need to be able to change the format of a specific word or two in a string, which the user has entered in the user input box, on specific words..
for example. image writing some text in MS word, and the last word written is wrong "spelled incorectly" it is then immidiately underlined.. this is the effect i'm after. i have the code working producing errors in a seperate output box. but i need it to change the input text dynamically at run time.

I'm drawing some cars. They're Bitmap's, loaded from PNG's in the library. I need to be able to color the cars-- red ones and green ones and blue ones, whatever. However, when you paint the car green, the tires should stay black, and the windows stay window-color.
I know of two ways to handle this, neither one of which makes me happy. First, I could have two bitmaps for each car; one underneath for the body color, and one on top for detail bits. The underneath bitmap gets its transform.colorTransform set to turn the white car-body into whatever color I need. Not great, because I end up with twice as many Bitmap's running around on screen at runtime.
Second, I could programmatically search-and-replace "white" with "car-body" color when I load the bitmap for each car. Not great either, because the amount of memory I take up multiplies by however many colors I need.
What I would LIKE would be a way to say "draw this Bitmap with JUST THE WHITE PARTS turned into this other color" at runtime. Is there anything like this available? I will be less than surprised if the answer is "no," but I figure it's worth asking.

I need some input text to read the same in both a dynamic and input text field, but I need the input text field to be left-aligned with a smaller font size than the dynamic text field. I tried left-aligining the input text field in Flash, and it just converted it back when I tested the movie. I have given both fields the same variable. How can I accomplish this?

The first questions was a calculation with the correct answer 5 or five. I have created an input text box with a variable ans1. Instance for the input text is Q1Input. I made a button with the following button script:
on (release, keypress "<Enter>") {
if (ans1 eq "5" or ans1 eq "five") {
gotoAndPlay(2);

Typing a correct answer gets me to a wrong message (frame 3) not correct (frame 2). When I trace(ans1) it seems that the input text box is passing teh formatting data with the value thus giveing me WRONG.

I have a TextInput for a user to enter their Date of Birth. Right now they just enter a string of numbers and I parse it for the correct values but this can be very inefficient. What I am looking to do is have the TextInput automatically formatted to look --/--/---- so the user can click in it and fill in the '-' fields while leaving the '/' for formatting purposes. Does anyone know of a good way to do this?

I have this flash form and it was functioning fine a minute ago, when you go to contact us and click contact us you will see the form only inputs in all caps and for some reason it will not let you type every letter it is driving me insane.

I've had a site running for a few months that takes fourinput text boxes (name, e-mail, subject and message) and posts thevalues to an ASP page which composes an e-mail with a CDO.Messagecommand. I am trying to create a simple login page but coming across a number of problems. Firstly I have a text field - in the properties section it is classic text and Input text. However when I runt the flash file. I am not able to input anything in the text input, Why?
I should mention I am using CS5 - I get a silly runtime warning: Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the "Use Device Fonts" setting. Use the Text > Font Embedding command to embed fonts.

I've got a string in AS3 composed of two elements that is dynamically assigned to a textField. I want to make one element one color and the other a different color. Code below: allInfoForSchedules = data[j].weekDay + " " + data[j].scheduleType + "."; I can make the entire string change color but not just one part of it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to update a piece of text in an textbox where html is enabled?
For example if the text inside an html textfield is:
Line 1 Lorem ipsem, <b>Lorem</b> ipsem,
Line 2 Lorem ipsem, Lorem ipsem,Line 3 Lorem ipsem, Lorem ipsem.
And if i replace the text on line 2 and make it bold without effecting line 1.

Does anyone know why the first part of my CSS formatted is the only part that shows? I know the rest of my text is formatted correctly because I can erase the first part, and only show the other portion. I just want to be able to load a decent size set of text into a text block I am making with a scrollbar.

I'm trying to create a user input textfield which automatically applies the defined format on it. The only problem is: actionscript 3 seems to ignore the format and stubbornly applies the default text format. How can I apply the desired format on user typed text? Here's my code so far. As you can see, for experimental reasons I tried to apply the size "60" on the text, but if you execute the script, the size of the text remains unchanged:

I have an issue with font scaling of a dynamic text box.
Currently i have one input box named input_1 with a variable attached to it named "choc_1".
Also, i have a dynamic text box named dynamic_1 with variable "choc_1".
When the user types something on the input box then the dynamic box changes instantly and displays what the user has written.
auto scale-size the fonts to a smaller size if the user types many letters.
The input_1 box has a 13 character limit. My initial font size is 200, i want to scale down so when the user types 10 letters they fit the box and they don't go out of screen. I want to use one line, so wrap or multiline is not possible.

how do I add input fields ONE AT A TIME at runtime, so that I can UNDO them, one by one ?
This is a 'Whiteboard' function and I've done the above for lines and shapes, no worries.
However, when I try to add Input text fields in the same way (one by one) nothing appears on screen.

the last of many problems, is that at the very end of the test, you're shown your score, and you have the option to type your name in a text box and click "save". Doing so will apply you score data (time elapsed, date, correct answers and percentage) along with the name you typed in, and output in a form, that you can save or print off, or whatever. The problem is, the input text box will not let you type in it. If you mouse over it, the mouse stays a pointer, you don't get the text tool. If you click on it, the cursor appears for a split second after you release the mouse button, but you cannot type anything in it.This is the actionscript for the output form:

I'm building this flash site for a friend and he wants to be able to edit the contents and maintain the site by himself later on. So naturally, I used a dynamic text field that uses URLloader to link to an external html, dandy. Problem is, my friend wants to use dreamweaver to edit the contents of html (or even just a word document exported as html) and it's just driving him nuts because the text look nothing like that way it did in DW when it's loaded into the dynamic text field (extra spacing and line break popping up randomly everywhere). Is there an alternative solution other then telling him to just edit it in notepad? What if I switch over to XML?

I'm having an issue where the client wants me to format a string as it's being entered into an input box. It's part of an interest calculator The problem i'm facing is that I can format a string so that it comes out the way he wants but the problem is that I can't figure out a good way to rewrite the function so that it doesn't keep reducing the number as I'm typing it in, just adds the decimal places like he wants.

I'm trying to pull a variable from an ASP page that's pulling it's info from a database. The ASP page has a response.write that outputs &ScrollText = text that comes from the database. The ASP page works fine, but when I try to pull in the variable in Flash, it takes in all the html URL escapes, i.e.: %20 for a space %22 for a ", etc. I've tried using Server.URLEncode in my ASP page, but that didn't help any. I'm displaying this text in a dynamic text box with a scroll bar.

I have 2 keyframes on my timeline.The first keyframe has an input text field (instance name: inputTxt) and a button (instance name: btnTester).When the user clicks the button it takes them to the second keyframe where their text should be displayed in a dynamic text box (instance name: txtBox).I get a null value in keyframe 2.

i created an input text box that puts the users input into a global variable, but when i test it it gives me not only what i have typed in but all the html formatting for the font that my input text box has on it.I only want the text that i have typed in to go into the variable but the wackload of html is going in there too. ive tried a few different things, rewriting my code, recreating the text box, changing settings, dont know what im missing.

I'm trying to build a fahrenheit to celsius convertor in AS3. How can I test to see whether what is input into a text input box (flash component) is not a number? This isn't correct but you can get an idea of what i'm trying to do:
