ActionScript 2.0 :: Streaming Server Ignoring The Seek() Method
Oct 29, 2008
I am building a flash app that will start playing a streaming video (wowza streaming server) x number of seconds in. I have built the player, and I have it reading the file name and start point (in seconds) from an XML file. The problem is, it is ignoring the seek() method. I have traced out the variables, so I know that the value is being passed to the function properly, but it always starts playing at the beginning. Here is the code:

I am working on a music player where the music list is loaded using xml. I am using sound object and the streaming property is set to 'true'. Now I want to calculate sound.duration, but I don't get the actual value when it is streaming, probably because the entire file is not downloaded at once because of streaming, and it is returning the duration of the portion of the file downloaded. So I am unable to develop a seek bar which shows the current position of the music.
I even tried to get the file duration using ID3 tag but the TIME property does not seem to work either.
Another options could be using php to get the duration of the mp3 file and generate an xml file which specifies the duration of the file.

I have a virtual directory (Storage Area Network) in 'C' drive as well as in "webroot" folder in Flash Streaming Server. What do I need to do to make RTMP videos work from SAN directory on Flash Streaming Server. It works fine for http. RTMP from vod -> application folder works fine. I have done a lot of research and found out that we can use virtual directories for streaming videos. I am unable to find steps on how to use it..

I'm building a video player here[url]...
It's streaming RTMP, and I'm trying to get my video to seek correctly if the user clicks on the groove bar (gray bar under the green progress bar) Currently it does not seek and gives me a NaN on my duration variable and an error on my progress bar width variable, which is puzzling me.
For some reason my videoDuration variable is coming up as NaN when used inside of my seeker function, also I'm getting a null object reference error when trying to trace out playerCntrls.progressTotalW which is the total width of the groove bar[code]...

We (the university I work for) want to add an IP camera to the top of a building (so it has to be IP, we can't put a machine up there, so USB is out of the question) to stream a live view of the quad. The problem is, I can't find a way to stream any IP Cameras through the flash live encoder. I tried a camera by Axis, but their capture driver only supported MJPEG which the live encoder does not.

As of Flash 10.1, they have added the ability to add bytes into the NetStream object via the appendBytes method URL...The main reason for this addition is that Adobe is finally supporting HTTP streaming of video. This is great, but it seems that you need to use the Adobe Media Streaming Server (URL...) to create the correct video chunks from your existing video to allow for smooth streaming.I have tried to do a hacked version of HTTP streaming in the past where I swap out the NetStream objects (URL...), but there is always a momentary pause between the chunks. With the new appendBytes, I tried to do a quick mock up with the two sections of video from the preceding site, but even then, the skip still remains.Does anyone know how the two consecutive .FLV files needs to be formated in order for the appendBytes method on the NetStream object to create a nice smooth video without a noticeable skip between the segments?

We are streaming a one hour F4V from streaming media server 3.5.2 and for some reason it is seeing our one hour video as being 10 hours long. We have tons of other videos and never ran into this problem in any of the other files. This is the only file that exceeds one hour. This occurs in the default player from the streaming server.

Currently i am working with the dvr functionality here i need to set the seek bar for the video. This could be used to seek the video to the particular position. I don't know how to set the maximum time on the seek bar dynamically (Since its DVR maximum time will be increase if publishing video is continues) .I think through the metadata we can get the total time of video Tell me how to call the metadata externally .

The company I work for installed FMS on a server running Centos for a customer who needed streaming media capabilities. It worked fine for 3 months until today the customer called us and informed us that their client program can no longer connect to the streaming media server. No one has done anything to the server to cause this to happen. When attempting to access the admin console to diagnose the program, the streaming server returned a 500 Internal Server Error. So I tried another page. Same result. Reboots of both the hardware server and the FMS have changed nothing.

I'm looking to use the Smart Seek options with netStream in an upcoming project. Currently, we are using Flash CS4 and it seems this API is not available. Am I correct on this? Is this only available in CS5 as far as Flash Professional goes? What about Flex? Which version of Flex is required to access the smart seek API? Or am I misunderstanding this, and the Smart Seek API is server side only AS?

The $995.00 version is listed as not supporting server side playlists. Is it possible to implement internet TV station like functionality using that version? I would like to have a list of files to play out and have it so those connected are all viewing the same thing.

The FLV is about 9 hours long.
How do I make this work ? And why is it not working?

I have used the Dvrcast application with FLVPlayback 2.5.0.26 for playing the dvr video.I have successfully achieved the dvr functionality with that application but i don't know how to update the seekbar max time (ex: while I play the video it the video length say for example 3min after i play the video it is keep on increasing the length since its dvr publishing will continue in other hand). It shows the max time of video when I enter to play the video not the current length of the video. I need the help to achieve this function.

I am using OSMF v1.0 along with FMS 3.5.3 and flash player 10.1. Whenever i do a seek, lets say to a time 't'. Netstream.time gives me an incorrect result which is more than 1.5*t (varies). So if i seek to 100, i get netstream.time as approx. 160. I also noticed, 'NetStream.info.VideoBufferLength' goes very high (from around 3-4 to 50-60) just before the Netstream.time parameter gets updated and drops backs after update.

I am streaming pre recorded audio files (mp4) to an AIR client. I have tried two different solutions,
streaming the file directly with the NetStream.play("mp4:xxxxx.m4a") and creating a server side playlist, adding the same sound clip and then streaming the playlist. The problem is, when streaming the playlist i get a few NetStream.Play.InsufficientBW, this does not happen when streaming the file direct. Both solutions uses bufferTime=1.0
I would like to use a server side playlist to implement a simple key solution so that the client dont know the full path to the file, but instead sends a key to a custom server side function that looks up the file path and creates a stream for the client.

Finding faults in my reasoning, or expanding the discussion further. We are benchmarking FMS 3.5.x for live dynamic streaming and we have run across an issue. When throttling the client from a high bandwidth (1500kbps) to a low bandwidth (325kbps) via a bandwidth shaper (a physical firewall) it takes a very long (real-) time for the client to see the new stream-quality.
During the investigation of this issue we have narrowed this down to:
1. when transition is requested from client, the client-side buffer is 1/2 i.e. 4-5seconds.
2. if transition is request on a client with unlimited bandwidth, it takes about 6 seconds for the server to process, find an acceptable switching position and send a "transition.complete" event.
3. on the throttled client however, this event takes much longer.

to generate thumbnails of the streaming video to control de contents of the video streaming. Could I do that in the server side? There is any setting to do that? Could I use the getOnMetadata method to catch a bitarray and then put in into a bitmap file?

We apologize for the inconveniece.".ind any option or notice where it says there is a minimum lenght to stream... so whats going wrong here?Additional Infos:FLV, MP4H.264 + AAC

4.5.
Our problem is: When we used Flash Media Developer Server 4.5 (Trial), we can use Share folder. However, when we bought Streaming Server and deployed with same file structure, we can't use Share folder but Local folder only.
Is there any limitation of using Share folder in Streaming Server?
Configuration:
It's standard. we set fms.ini in Windows.

Currently we are running a FMS 3.5 server and to 99.9% of our clients they can see our streams with no issues. This all started after we moved server from influxes to in house. Everything was back to working ok but one client. They must be behind a very secure network becasue they see the player we have but no video, only gray boxes. My first guess is that they are blocking RTMP. I tried to get into her machine via remote but it required domain authentication. This was working with our old system but not the new one. Nothing much has changed execpt hosting companies. Normally we could use port 80 to stream out of but we currently have a different web server fordwaring traffic through 80 and our firewall will not route host headers. What could be the best way to make this work?

I'm working on a site which allows people to pay to stream videos online. I'm currently using JW Player to stream FLV/F4V files from Amazon S3, using a signature. This method is extremely unstable, and needless to say, useless. I've heard I can use Amazon CloudFront as a CDN for my videos. But that it won't make the files any more secure, if I've understood it correctly.Price is an important thing. I know hosting/streaming video is expensive, but what are my best options, for a cheap, reliable, and as-safe-you-can solution for me? I have very little hosting experience,
