ActionScript 2.0 :: Target Html Frame From Flash GetURL Flash8
Mar 18, 2007
Note: I rarely join forums or post threads, however, given the living hell i went through to figure this problem out I thought i would go ahead and post this for all others having my problem (in hope that you find this link and it solves your problem). Aim: using frames, I want to create a flash menu in the left frame, the buttons in the left frame should open up the target page into the (main) right frame. [in other words a normal frame based website that has a flash menu as the navigation for the site] Problem: When using getURL to open the page in the frame i.e. on (release) {
I am using a flash template with a _urls.txt file. I would like to change the code so I can display a target html page in an inline frame. My goal is to change the page content when a when a nav item is choosen without reloading the swf.I have tried several methods with no luck. What should I do to accomplish my goal?Here is the original code in the template.
if i wanted a flash button when clicked on to open a html page in a i-frame how would this be done? what would the script be for this particulare action?
Is it possible to create a link on an html page that when clicked will load a new page, which has a flash movie on it, but make the flash file jump to, say frame 50, or a frame label?
Kirupa's tutorial on how to use Flash to target a certain frame in HTML doesn't work any more. The page opens up in a new window instead of in the targetted frame. This is the code that is used: on (release)

So iv been flash designing for about a year now, and i thought i was pretty good, however having never usd the geturl script before i am stumped whats going on. my AS is
Actionscript Code: on (release) { getURL("index.html", "_self");} which works fine when playing the movie in the flash preview (pressing ctrl+enter) but as soon as i publish the movie and view it embbeded in an HTML document it doesnt work. this should indicate its my browser settings? however iv tried disabling my pop-up blocker and still nothing.
I have a Flash form sending variables to an ASP script (bono.asp) in order to print a discount bonus. The bonus grafic is then shown in a new window for the user to print with his/her data on it. (name, address, etc). Well, the problem is that it not only opens a new window with the bonus (without the data ), it also opens the bonus in the current window (with the data), forcing the user to "go back" to the flash website and loading the entire animation again. This is the code in the Flash form asociated to the Button:
I have 2 buttons in a flash movie with the following codes. They open a new URL that also contains a flash movie and it sends the variable "nFrame" and a value.
Button1: Code: on (release) { getURL("goats.html?nFrame=1"); }
Button2: Code: on (release) { getURL("goats.html?nFrame=2"); }
When the new URL opens I want the flash movie to begin at a particular frame depending on what variable "nFrame" is equal to. I tried placing this code in the first frame to do it but it didn't work, the movie just loops and loops and doesn't stop at any frame.
I made a very simple loader, it's only a textbox with a percent loaded displayed.
It works perfectly when I use Test Movie in the Flash IDE but when I upload the .swf to my webserver, I get a blank grey box until the entire game is loaded, then it starts the game.
Is there any common mistakes one could make that would lead to this behaviour?
-- Detailed information -- Flash 8 game has 2 scenes. Loader, and MainGame Loader scene has the following code in frame 1:
Code: stop(); onEnterFrame = function() {
[Code].....
frame 2 has all my dynamically loaded movieclips placed on the stage (since I can't use 'export to frame 1' or that breaks the loader) frame 3 has a bunch of mp3's the game uses (same reason)
MainGame Scene has one frame that has actionscript code that does everything by code alone, loading movieclips and sounds dynamically.
It's that simple, and the loading works perfectly with various bandwidth settings using Test Movie, but once loaded from a website, the loader fails to appear at all, instead you are greeted to a grey box until the game is fully downloaded.
Im doing a site where the menu is in flash, and the rest of the site is in HTML. I was wondering if it's possible to target an Iframe with Actionscript or flash?
I have a text field that has an html link in it with target='display'. So what i want to happen is when the link is clicked, flash opens a new window called display, then when another link(with same taget) is clicked, it will use the existing open window.
The problem is that it keeps opening new windows.
I know that this works in html, but for some reason Flash is not using the same window.
How do you target html iframes with actionscript within a flash movie? I have several buttons I wish to have target a single frame. I know that in Actionscript 2.0 and 1.0 it only requires a small amount of code, so I assume 3.0 also only requires a small amount of code.
I'm having some trouble with getURL (I think). It works fine when I preview with Flash's html preview but it's not working on my server. It's pretty simple. [URL].selected1 is a user-defined variable pointing to a page: ie, when the user selects variable page1 the page to be opened is [URL]. Like I said, it works with Flash's preview, but not on my server(no 404 or any response). Does there seem to be a problem with my code or might I be overlooking a server error? Here's my code:
there is a button on 1st frame. there is a movie clip on frame 2. I named the movie clip as "ball_mc" I want to go to frame 2 when I click on button on 1st frame. I know that the code "gotoAndPlay(2);" on button will work. But for some reasons, i want to try another way.... i tried several codes:
I have made a menu in flash . I have a frameset on my page . I want the button to open the link in a specific frame (my frames are bannerframe , leftmenu , rightmenu , bodyframe) . The menu is in the "leftmenu" frame. But whenever i use this :
Code: getURL ("xyz.html", "bodyframe")
the page opens in a new window .. ( i have tried in all browsers chrome firefox IE etc. ) ....
I want the other file to open in same window bellow the first one.But the problem here is when i run this in IE8 the other frame opens in a different window but in Firefox im not getting any respose.
Note:- Javascript is enabled in both browsers and popup are not blocked
When I originally made this flash, I created a button to access a web page that I had uploaded to my university server.
Now I'm attempting to compile all my webpages and flash to a CD for portfolio purposes and am having trouble redirecting the button to access the html in an adjacent folder to where the flash is stored.
Here's an example of the original button AS:
on(release){ getURL("TheURL(sorry I can't post links)", "_blank"); }
i'm using buttons with the getURL action to navigate to different pages in my site. each "page" in effect, is an .html document comprised of an embedded .swf.is there a way to target to a specific frame label in the requested .swf, when the getURL action is initiated? in other words when i press the "info" button that brings up the "info.html" page, is there a way i can navigate to a specific frame label from within the info.swf? seems like it should be a really simple thing to do. i don't quite know if what i'm asking makes sense, but in essence, i would want something like this button script to accomplish what i'm talking about:
I have a series of as2 button instances which are intended to navigate an HTML site with simple getURL commands, but no matter what I do they only load the index.php file and I can't get them to open the page in the _self window. Here's the code:
I have a two frame page - the left frame is a custom flash Tree object that parses a number of IMS-compliant manifests (basically an XML tree menu structure) and the right frame displays the href of the tree object that is clicked. If i run this from a server, it works fine and displays all links in the right frame. But if I run it from a local or network drive it opens all links in _blank.
Adobe have a technote on the new allowScriptAccess and getURL in FP9 [URL] but dont mention anything about this issue (that i can locate). I also cannot see how opening all pages in _blank can fix any "security" issues. Can anyone confirm that targeting html frames locally via getURL under FP9 is now not possible or has been changed? or is this a bug (sorry - undocumented feature)?
I have created a program that pulls large amounts of data from an XML file. The program works absolutely perfect if I test it in Flash or open it in IE. The problem I have run into is that when I put the program into a webpage using the following code (neither one works), it no longer connects to the XML file. Am I missing something in the code?
I have two frames in a movieclip with a stop in the first. I want a script that makes is so that when you hold down the UP or DOWN arrowkey it jumps to frame 2 but if you drop the UP or DOWN key you go back to frame 1.
for flash 8 I have created a nice flash site to show some portfolio work. I have all the thumbnails in place but I wanted them to open a new HTML window in the size of the portfolio piece. How is this done and will it be blocked by popup blockers. edit: the html page i want to link to is in the same folder as the flash site.
I really just want to know how to trigger a function when my movie hits a certain frame.
I made a very simple flash show to try to illustrate my problem a little more clearly. I have a green and a gray button. Using the 'switch_buttons' command I turned the gray button invisible at the beginning. What I then want to happen is that on the 10th frame the green button will become invisible and the gray button will appear. But I haven't had any luck. It seems like I need to call a function to switch the buttons somehow.
