ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing MovieClip Objects On Parent MovieClips?

So for my main timeline:
var lightBox:mc_lightbox = new mc_lightbox();
lightBox.x = 300;
lightBox.y = 200;
addChild(lightBox);
I get a lightbox up on the screen, within the lightbox is some more script, there are three menu options for that new window. So far when you click on it the loading part comes up just fine but whenever I have it go to another scene it leaves behind the lightbox above. I'm able to removeChild(loading) because its right there just a function above but I'm unable to removeChild(lightBox) because it's one up. How can I access that child? I tried many variations of parent, MovieClip, and root relationships but still couldn't get flash to find it.

I am trying to implement a "card shuffle" animation using MovieClip instances on the stage. The instances are linked to the same class. From the class I am able to look at the numChildren of the parent:
trace(this.parent.numChildren);
Let's say I have three cards on the stage with these instance names: "orange_mc", "green_mc" and "blue_mc". They are all linked to a custom class I created. On a MouseEvent I would like to bring the selected card to the top depth. I know that this would do the trick:
this.parent.addChild(this);
I would like to animate the effect and it seems that to be able to do this I would need to know the depths of all the MovieClips on the stage (or at least to determine if the selected is at the top - for this, no animation would be required). I tried the following, only to get an error:
this.parent.getChildIndex(orange_mc);
and
MovieClip(this.parent).getChildIndex(orange_mc);

I'm trying to access a parent movieClip from the child movieClip
Here's what I want to do,
I've got a movieClip named wrong_mc, which plays for a couple of frames and on the last frame, its got a close button "close_btn" inside of it, now I wanna write the code such that when close_btn is played the movieClip "wrong_mc" should go and stop at frame1, I'm just not able to access this movieClip from the button.

how to access a movie clip/s in a parent swf from a child swf. for example:Interface swf has buttons as mc's (home, about, services, portfolio e.t.c.) and loads in a swf when one of the buttons in the interface swf is pressed. When a button in Interface swf is pressed none of the other buttons can be pressed until the swf of the button that was pressed has loaded.
The reason for this is so that if the user tries to press the buttons quickly lets say the user pressed services button but changed thier mind right after pressing it and wanted to press lets say portfolio button they couldnt press the button until the services swf has loaded. Ive seen websites that dont do this and is makes it all mess up. Ive been able to do this in the past in AS2 but i cant figure it out in AS3.This is the code i would use in AS2:

I have a stage with instances of bauble_mcs on it that are attached by the document class of the main timeline (can someone tell me what the right term is here? I don't know what I call the main time line in AS3).I then have instances of snow_mc attached by the same class. Inside the snow_mc I want to test to see if it is hitting any bauble_mcs but I don't know how!
inside snow_mc I am trying:

I am trying to access movieclips within my movieclip using a for statement. To try and make this clear, here is how it looks at the moment:
sections = Holder movieclip where dtf_sections is placed, as well as other clips that are needed.
dtf_sections = Where all the title movieclips are placed that are going to be used when called. Placed in here to make it easier to move, within sections
title = Movieclip that contains the text that needs to be changed, within dtf_sections
Here is my code that works:
sections.dtf_sections.title1.dtf_title.text = "Section 1"
There are upto 10 titles within dtf_sections. So, what I thought would work is this:
for(var i:uint=1; i<10; i++){
sections.dtf_sections.["title"+String(i)].dtf_title.text = "Section" +(i)
}
The reason why they are within the movieclips is masking, and appearing at different times.

I have a movie clip on my scene with a number of objects all prefixed with a keyword 'build' (e.g. 'build8934', 'build4920') - is there any method, array or object that I can access that would give me access to a list of objects for that movie clip?I'm intending to loop through an add events to an instance which matches the prefix 'build' and set additional properties based off that instance.x.

I have a MovieClip, that I'm going to add to the display list with my document class at runtime beacuase there will be many instances of it. The MoviClip "box" has 3 more MovieClip instances inside it,and each of those three have two more.It looks like this:

Let's say I am loading a movieclip from a remote url within another movieclip on another server.
This movieclip now needs to load another child movie clip on the same server as itself.
How can it get its own url and not the url of its parent container so as to load this child ? Because if it refers to "child.swf" it will be relative to the super parent container insted of the first server isn't it ? So it will not be able to load the child correctly if all it can get is the url of the parent.

I have placed 3 movieclips named mcParent, mcChild1, mcChild2 and 1 textbox in flash. child are childrens of parent movie clip. child1 and child2 both are of sizes 300 whereas parent movieclip is 600px, textbox is placed inside child2 movie clip .
I have made the flash to auto resize according to the screen area. Everything works well, but after resize it resizes parent and all childrens and textbox which is correct. The problem is with the correct placement of textbox on mcChild2. I have seen that after resize, mcParent width and scalex both changes but the child clips doesn't changed its sizes even they are stretched but there sizes are not updated due to which I am unable to get the exact location of where to place the textbox.

if got a question, when designing in the fla, you can create objects convert them to movieclips and then double click on that movieclip so your inside your movieclip. Now i wanted to code everything so no more designing any more just code. Now i searched google for a as3 movieclip in movieclip but cant seem to find anything.
So what i basically want is a code for; the design trick movieclip in movieclip.

I m trying to make sense of how to load a swf into a parent MovieClip and allow them to communicate.I ve attached two zip files � one which works fine and the other doesn�t. Unfortunately (for me), the one which doesn�t work is closer to my current project.I need to load movieclips into the parent movieclip. The parent movieclip has controls which rely on values parsed from the child movieclip.In the parent movieclips I wait until the loading is complete and so the values should be passed. However, the values aren�t passed unless I use a button (or timer), to pass the values (see the working exampes).The code which doesn�t work is:

I have drawn colored rods which I have placed in the library and have put one of each on the stage with instance names likeblueRod_mc, etc.I place them around with time-line code like
blueRod_mc.x = 300.0;I have now created an Actionscript class called Problem.I build a new object from Problem which I have called Riddle.But when I put blueRod_mc.x = 300.0 in a method (of Problem),I get the message that blueRod is not accessible.So I triedstage.blueRod_mc.x = 300.0;That did not work either.

I am trying to access a function that is on my document class for my AS3 project, from a nested class. That is, the Document Class calls Class A which then calls Class B. So I am trying to access a function from Class B, I am trying to use MovieClip(parent).function(); but I am getting error 1120. The MovieClip(parent) (fixed to reflect my document class, etc) works when I try it from other classes but not from this nested class.

I am starting with AS3 programming icm with Flash Builder 4.I have created a "Main" class which is the initial stage.On this stage there is a movieclip called mcMain.In this mcMain is 4 other movieclips: mcStats1 mcStats2 mcStats3 mcStats4 .How can I access these mcStats1-4 from the code to make them go to another frame?I tried:

I'm trying to access the AchievementScreen's textfield from a medal object. Point being to have a mouseover event of the medal, change the content of the textfield shown. I tried a trace first: trace(this.parent.parent.parent.parent.textLineCon tainer); 1119: Access of possibly undefined property textLineContainer through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObjectContainer. trace(this.parent.parent.parent.parent) shows me it is a AchievementScreen object. textLineContainer is the instance name of the MC nesting the textfield (I actually drew the achievement screen then exported it to actionscript.

Lets say I have a movieclip on the stage.
On the stage on frame 1 I define a variable. Lets say its a string that reads "hello".
Now in my movieclip on stage I am trying to trace that string I defined on frame 1 on the stage. How can I make this happen?
I have tried a few things but I can't seem to get it working right.

I've been using greensock classes in a parent movie, but am now looking to use the same classes from within some child movies, but it doesn't work (I presently have to import them into each child movie - what a waste).
Do I need to create the classes as a shared library object perhaps? If so, how would I go about it? as I've only ever done this for MCs or MP3s.

What's the strategy for getting a child to access variables in a parent.I have a Main class.In that class I create instances of a Unit class and save those to an array.In the Unit class, I want to access the x and y coordinates of other instances of the Unit class.So I'd like to access that array I made in the Main class.I tried:this.parent.theArray[i].xbut that doesn't work.
