I have a MC with an instance name MovieClip_1 and I create another like this:[code]So basically, what I want to know is how to nest MovieClips using code, display them, and change their positions reletive to their parent MovieClip, and not the root/stage.

So for my main timeline:
var lightBox:mc_lightbox = new mc_lightbox();
lightBox.x = 300;
lightBox.y = 200;
addChild(lightBox);
I get a lightbox up on the screen, within the lightbox is some more script, there are three menu options for that new window. So far when you click on it the loading part comes up just fine but whenever I have it go to another scene it leaves behind the lightbox above. I'm able to removeChild(loading) because its right there just a function above but I'm unable to removeChild(lightBox) because it's one up. How can I access that child? I tried many variations of parent, MovieClip, and root relationships but still couldn't get flash to find it.

Let's say I am loading a movieclip from a remote url within another movieclip on another server.
This movieclip now needs to load another child movie clip on the same server as itself.
How can it get its own url and not the url of its parent container so as to load this child ? Because if it refers to "child.swf" it will be relative to the super parent container insted of the first server isn't it ? So it will not be able to load the child correctly if all it can get is the url of the parent.

I want to detach a movieclip and attach it elsewhere, but it doesn't seem possible in AS2.
I'm looking for an AS2 equivalent of Cocoa's addSubview/removeFromSuperview.
Is there alternatives routes to go, such as duplicating a movie with a new parent.. is that possible?

I have placed 3 movieclips named mcParent, mcChild1, mcChild2 and 1 textbox in flash. child are childrens of parent movie clip. child1 and child2 both are of sizes 300 whereas parent movieclip is 600px, textbox is placed inside child2 movie clip .
I have made the flash to auto resize according to the screen area. Everything works well, but after resize it resizes parent and all childrens and textbox which is correct. The problem is with the correct placement of textbox on mcChild2. I have seen that after resize, mcParent width and scalex both changes but the child clips doesn't changed its sizes even they are stretched but there sizes are not updated due to which I am unable to get the exact location of where to place the textbox.

In flash if I change scale of parent movieclip, scale of all child inside the parent was changed too. Now I look for the best way to fix child scale while parent scale is changing. I mean the way with minimum listener and cpu usage. In my project I have a map (as parent) and many icons on map (as childs). map has zoom in and zoom out button and pan while dragging.

I'm just wondering if hitTest can be affected by the changing x,y coordinates or the changing scale of the parent clips. My platform engine doesn't seem to work everytime I try to add a script to a parenting clip (of a playable character and a computer character) that changes the x and y values of that clip as well as the scale (simulating a camera that keeps both characters in focus).

I've 6 different movieclips on stage, with one main focal movieclip in the center. What i need is that when clicking on the surrounding movieclips they animate in to swap their position with the main focal movieclip, which then animates to take it's replacements former position. So after a few mouse clicks all of the movieclips could have had their position shuffled from it's original location.
I know i've seen a similar thing on a photo gallery where the current photo is swapped with whatever thumbnail is clicked on but can't seem to find an example.
Currently i have the positions of the movieclips controlled by variables, the animation handled by tweener, and can quite happily find the position/scale etc of the movieclip that get's clicked on, but can't figure out how to get the focal movieclips details as it might never be the same movieclip.

I'm having an issue using randomizing the appearance of movie clips using Math.random. I have a movie clip in the library, which is 85 frames long but it begins and ends with 15 blank key frames. In other words, it has 2 layers, one for action script and one for graphics which are movie clips too, the AS layer is 85 frames long while the art layer is shorter and begins on frame 16.
I began by putting the movie clip on the stage, without any code on the main timeline, with some code on the movie clip's timeline -
this.x = Math.random()*stage.stageWidth;
this.y = Math.random()*stage.stageHeight;
In this case, tested the movie, the swf played just what I wanted, the movie clip "appears" randomely on the stage, plays, disappears, and reappears, and so on and so forth.
I then gave the movie clip on the stage an instance name of b_mc, removed the code in its timeline, and put it on the main timeline, as such -
b_mc.x = Math.random()*stage.stageWidth;
b_mc.y = Math.random()*stage.stageHeight;
In this case, the movie clip does NOT appear randomly on the stage when the swf is tested, rather, it appears at the same position, appearing and disappearing over and over as planned, but in the same place - NOT as planned.

I have a movieclip in my library named mcLeaderboarditem. I've generated a class for it to manage the textfields.
The easiest way is to make a child of the class and manage the contents properties with the dot-syntax like this (documentclass):

leaderItem.lblRank.text = "2nd";
addChild(leaderItem);

I m trying to make sense of how to load a swf into a parent MovieClip and allow them to communicate.I ve attached two zip files � one which works fine and the other doesn�t. Unfortunately (for me), the one which doesn�t work is closer to my current project.I need to load movieclips into the parent movieclip. The parent movieclip has controls which rely on values parsed from the child movieclip.In the parent movieclips I wait until the loading is complete and so the values should be passed. However, the values aren�t passed unless I use a button (or timer), to pass the values (see the working exampes).The code which doesn�t work is:

well i'm working on a small scale game and I appear to be coming across some small issues that I was hoping someone could help me with. I have this:

in the frames actions.What I am trying to achieve is that when the players x position is greater than or equal to 540 it changes frame, I've tried various adaptations of this such as the following:

mc_player is the instance name of the player (obviously :P) and when i enter the second code it just jumps straight to frame 2, so far it seems that the code is just setting the players x position at 540, so i tried setting it using actionscript like:

_root.mc_player.x = 143
it would set it at that and then the if the player reached the x position of 540 it would change frames but in that case it just didn't change frames.

I have two movieclips in the centre of my stage. One is on top of the other and fade's between them using left/right buttons.I want to change this so that they slide in like a jQuery slider does. I don't want to change the initial position of the movieclips (on top of each other) just change the fade effect to a slide in.

I am trying to access a function that is on my document class for my AS3 project, from a nested class. That is, the Document Class calls Class A which then calls Class B. So I am trying to access a function from Class B, I am trying to use MovieClip(parent).function(); but I am getting error 1120. The MovieClip(parent) (fixed to reflect my document class, etc) works when I try it from other classes but not from this nested class.

I've just added in a bubble effect I found here. At the moment the script creates bubbles randomly across the whole width of the stage. I want the effect to only occur between two x positions, say 50 and 845, on the stage. This is the Actionscript I have at the moment.

i want to have the same movieclip showing up multiple times at different locations on the screen. i don't want to create multiple instances just cuz it seems less "efficient", so it'd be neat if there's a way to do this.essentially what i'm trying to do is have a the user see the same movieclip but with different things on top of the movieclips, and if the user does something to do the movieclip in one location (ie: click to change a tile in the movieclip), i want that to take effect in all locations.i could just add event listeners to each tile in all the movieclip to have the same effect independent of which movieclip you click the tile in, but i'm hoping i can avoid this.

I have a text movieclip (service_mc) on the stage for which I need to control 4 different _xpositions (_x = 0, _x = -700, _x = -1400, x = -2100) with 4 button mc's (btn_one, btn_two, btn_three, btn_four).
For these four buttons I already declared the Over, Out, Release and Restore stage in a function:

What I like to accomplish is to control the _x positions of "service_mc" with the same buttons. I mean when btn_one is pressed service_mc should go to _x = 0, when btn_two is pressed the _x position from service_mc should change to _x = -700 etc, etc
How to integrate this possibility in the existing function?
