am using flash mx2004 and I have a 'MediaDisplay' component named 'vidPlayer' on my stage.How can I build my own play, pause and stop buttons? Pretend their instance names are 'vidPlay', 'vidPause' and 'vidStop'.I know if I use the 'MediaPlayback' component I have all those buttons, but I dont like that skin and I would like to create my own.
I have a project with a MediaDisplay component on the stage, and some actionscript (2.0) on frame 1 to load a FLV. When I use Test Movie in Flash, the FLV will not play, but when I open the SWF (or a Flash Presentation made using the Publish command), it plays fine. What's wrong with Test Movie?
I have been working on this project since before I upgraded to CS5 (I was using CS4), and I never had trouble testing it through Flash. I also have a different Flash project that uses the same component with the same actionscript to load an FLV, and that one plays correctly using Test Movie. However, if I try to load that FLV with the other project, it won't play.It may not be related, but I'm also getting a lot of compiler errors when I test the movie. They all say the same thing:
"The class or interface [insertMovieClipNameHere] could not be loaded."
I have quite a weird problem..I have an input text field and AS written for it to change it's content with "onKillFocus" and "onSetFocus" functions.
The problem is that when I add a "MediaDisplay" component to the scene input text's "onKillFocus" and "onSetFocus" functions won't work and as well as some other problems apear..I've seen that for these 2 functions I have to export with flashplayer 8 and so it is.
I want to create interactive training materials.Users would view pages, click on a button to make something move on the page, and also be able to take a small quiz at periodic intervals.I want to serve up these pages through a Learning Management System AND/OR be able to package the content in "some sort of program" and be able to distribute it via CD or download.
I am currently making some interactive training apps for a company, It seems like flash is the way to go since I know AS3 and am comfortable with it. The problem comes where my boss wants to be able to sell these apps as learning aids to schools. Would using something like adobe air with flash be the way to go?
I'm working at a company specialising in online training (related to the building & construction industry mainly - but also things such as occuptional health and safety) and we're starting to put courses online. We're currently using Composica and are looking to make the jump to Flash since it looks much nicer and has much more functionality.I've used flash for a while (mainly designing) and have some basic knowledge in Actionscript 3 - the main issue is not knowing how to make Actionscript communicate with HTML (probablyJavascript even) to relay the results of the course / test to the main webpage, saying whether the participant has passed or not, also to block them from going to the next chapter if they haven't completed the current and maybe even save their place if they have to leave halfway through.
Ok here is the situation. I've made a media player for 2 hour long training videos. 1. Their are cue points throughout the FLV that have questions the user must answer. 2. The user is allowed to skip to different sections of the video(the beginning of each segment), but they are not allowed to skip forward in a particular segment, unless they've already answered the question for that particular segment.
Here is a preview of how the segment are laid out: I can figure out how to determine if they can or cannot seek, but I just dont know how I can only constrain seeking to particular sections of that timeline.
we had a school project to make a device. My partner said that we should make a computer game for our school project. I asked in another forum if it is possible to do it in less than a week. They told me flash is the best for beginners. I was thinking of making a clone of hangaroo but replace it with another animal and my country's language. Is this possible in flash? Is there noob-friendly tutorials out there that explains the basics of how to make a hangaroo style flash game?
We have training made in Flash and text are populated from XML files. Now our client want to make training compatible to one of the screen reading software "Window-eyes".We have tried out different options but it is not working.We have made the course compatible to "Jaws" but not able to make it compatible to "Window-eye".....
John Ulliman uses actionScript3 with Flash CS3 and I have Flash CS5 which is the main difference. It appears he uses a classic tween (from CS4 and CS5's perspective).I have a thumbnail which is created as a movie symbol and when I double click on the timeline I have a tween of zero saturation (frame 1) to 100% saturation (frame 10) back to zero saturation frame 20. When I scrub the timeline the classic tween fades up and down correctly. But when I trigger the rollover (and rollout) event from the main timeline which should goto the movie instance called mThumb0.gotoAndPlay(2) starting at frame 2 for ROLL_OVER and Thumb0.gotoAndPlay(11) for the ROLL_OUT event it seems to only change the saturation a little but not touch the saturation filter.
I don't know if there is something about the different tweens (Classic and Motion) that I need to know. I don't know what the sync checkmark does but I tried it on and off with no help. I put trace statements that indicate the ROLL_OVER and ROLL_OUT events are being triggered and the functions the events trigger are being called correctly but I don't know how to debug what is happening with the timeline after the mThumb0.gotoAndPlay occurs.
I have to create an animation for a school assignment... Anyway I'm quite new to Adobe Flash and I'm using Action Script 3.0. I have created the first segment of my animation and I'm now onto the second part but when i go to change the stage background of my second segment it changes the background of my first segment. If you don't understand this just say so and I'll rewrite.

For the last couple of weeks, i've been trying to develope an interactive yearbook for my school. Im using an external XML, and trying to push all the data in the xml to assigned arrays. Also im trying to use a for loop to create empty movie clips. This empty clips will serve as "pages" if the total number of students is greater than 25. Also, on these pages im trying to attachMovie to a specific x, and Y, as you'll see in my source code.
Other than that, i can not figure out where im going wrong.When i first try to publish it, it gives me an error saying that the path is undefined, and will not load ANYTHING. if i make a few changes, it just sits there blanky.
I'd created an interactive quizz that worked great [URL] Then I decided to spruce up the background and add a "title slide" [URL] Both ran great on my home computer, but the second version bugs out on the school's computers! Everything seems fine until you try to advance past frame 2 using the "next question" button, and although you see the button's over and down states, the slide never advances. I only changed one line of code between the two examples, the one declaring the slide number variable, and the logic must be correct as everything runs great on my machine at home! Both machines are running IE7 and have Flash player 10 installed. Do you know of any issues with network compatibility that I may have overlooked? As I don't have CS5 on the machines at school, I can't run the .fla files directly for debugging, so I don't know what to do to locate the error.
I'm in desperate search for a professional Flash Developer who wouldn't mind taking a few moments to participate in an interview about a past or recent Flash Project he/she has worked on. Unfortunately for me, I have had 2 people commit to this, and back out. The first completely ignored all messages and inquiries after I sent the information to her. After having no choice but to search for another person, I found another that was eager to help. Two days after I sent him the related material, I received a message stating he wasn't aware that it was a Flash project, and that they don't do any Flash in house, so as of last night, my second lead has turned into a dead end. I am now on my last ditch effort to find someone that would be willing to share their experience with me, so I can complete my assignment on time, which - by the way - is due Friday, October 29th.
You all know the new generation of fancy, mostly Flash-based file uploaders like SWFUpload that can show a progress bar while uploading - a great improvement especially for shaky and low-bandwidth connections.
However, these uploaders all bring their own logic of how to handle uploads on the client side. I am looking for an unobtrusive way to "fancify" existing, classical file uploads, i.e. introducing a progress bar to normal file upload forms.
Due to the architecture of uploading files, this is most likely not possible without some tweaking on the client side.
I am looking for a solution that keeps the tweaking to an absolute minimum, e.g. a component that adds itself to the onsubmit event of a normal form, performs the file upload, displays a nice progress bar, puts the resulting temporary (server side) file path into the form, and submits it. On the server side, I just have to modify my script to use the file path provided by the flash uploader, instead of $_FILES and consorts, and think about security for a moment.
This is not exactly what all the Flash-based uploaders do: They can use data from a form, but they do not provide possibilities to submit the form as is, what is what I'm looking for. I am looking for a (probably) Flash based upload function taken a step further.
Im looking to stream educational DVDs within my school, i now have a spare server but im not 100% sure what adobe flash product i need to do this?As ive seen a few different options to buy but thinking will the Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5 be good enough?Also the streamed files are they all via web page or can you use something like VLC player and connect to streamed files that way?
To enter static text in Flash, the only measurement option available for the text size is points,while the measurement for"Letter Spacing" appears to be pixels (based on my own observations, can't find documentation to verify this). Can either option be changed so that both options are measuring pixels or point/em units?
For instance in InDesign, the type size is in points and the "Tracking" is 1/000th em (see comment here). Both measurements are based on the same basic unit, while Flash seems to be using two different basic units of measuring.
Basically at my school we are doing a project that allows you to walk around the school like you can on "Google Street View". Me being a geek, the teacher asked me to make a prototype using my house to see if this idea would work. So today I went on Flash and made two working Flash/SWF files, one being a "Google Street View"type of thing of my upstairs and one of my downstairs of my house. I made two SWFs because at school there are many different people working on the project so there will be many different SWFs to combine.
So after making the two SWFs (the upstairs one called Untitled-2 and the downstairs called downstairs) I tried to merge them together. Each one of the SWFs have action script on these" Arrows" that allows you to guide around my house. The action script on all the arrows is:

I made a new Flash Document and one the first scene I had a Button That Said "Begin". Once Pressed, it takes you to scene 2. On scene two I went to File > Import > Import to Library and Selected Untitled-2.swf. Untitled-2.swf was then in my library. I clicked and dragged it into the stage of Scene 2 and in the timeline only 1 keyframe pooped up. I thought it would work so I previewed the Flash Movie. The Begin Button show up, and when I clicked it preview file Flashed each Keyframe in Untitled-2.swf even though the first frame in Untitled-2.swf has the action script: stop(); The whole thing is uncontrollable and I dont know what to do. I hope you understood what I wrote (Im not the best with spelling and grammar). So in a nut shell, how can I combine 2 SWF files In Flash, whilst maintaining all the action script in each file.
I am stumped. I have tried to load a comboBox with a for-loop to load k school names and can not get it to load dynamically. Here is what works:schools_cb.addItem({label:varLoad.data.school1});It manages to paste the name of school1 into the comboBox k times.Then, when I try:schools_cb.addItem({label:this["varLoad.data.school" + k]});orschools_cb.addItem({label:this.getChildByName("var Load.data.school" + k)});it brings up k blank entries in the comboBox.I am a poor teacher trying to make a signup page for our school's math contest
I made a script which will tile dynamic mc in a way that after a number of clips (say 5) in a row, i would like the 6th mc to position on the next row below the first row, like this:

i was able to do it thru series of if-else if statements but the thing is that i was wondering if there's a better logic in doing this, i was thinking of using switch statement but is there a way to type "i>=9 && i<=20" into a case parameter? here is the code and i have also attached the fla if anyone would like to see:
I have created a Flash application for a "big" client which communicates heavily with the server. Flash app is initially loaded with a big XML file, which is retrieved by an aspx file. Then every 5 seconds, it calls a different aspx file to update. There are 3 asp files, which also sends back XMLs, that it calls periodically on top of the aspx file. Buttons on the app calls 4 different asp files with data being sent via querystring, but, uses the XML.sendAndLoad commands since we want the communication being done behind the scene.
During testing on development and live sites, we noticed no problems. We had sporadic complaints about the application being slow, but, they were so rare that we let it slide.
Now, it seems more frequent. I went back to the application and tried utilizing the built-in garbage collection by deleting all temporary variables, but, that didn't seem to improve much.
Given this scenario... is there anything I could try to improve the speed of server communications?
I have an application requiring exporting of Flash animations to run on an embedded media player. This accepts a number of video formats. The most reliable I have found so far is DivX. The player supports DivX versions 3.11, 4.x & 5.x. The export codec in CS3 is DivX 6.8.5 which is not compatible with the player.The player also supports MPEG2 but the quality is not very good. Other options are Xvid Mpeg4 video (doesn't work) and MS Mpeg4 video codec V2 & V3 (also not supported in CS3).I have tried downloading a variety of alternative second source file converters but frankly tied myself in knots. Any idea how I can get around this problem and get a DivX 5.x codec to work natively within CS3?
I'm having huge bug issues with LocalConnection that nobody seems to be able to find errors in my code/files. So... I'm looking for an alternative. I need a main swf file to load an external swf including the ability to have it move from one frame to another. If this isn't a possibility, I can also just have the main swf hide/reveal a div or just an image in the html.
I am an Adobe Flex developer and I am sick of Eclipse. Is there an alternative (free) IDE for Flex? I am aware of Tofino, but I can't get that to work on my MSVS Express editions, and I don't want to buy the whole thing.
