ActionScript 3.0 :: Media Player For 2 Hour Long Training Videos?
Jan 21, 2009
Ok here is the situation. I've made a media player for 2 hour long training videos. 1. Their are cue points throughout the FLV that have questions the user must answer. 2. The user is allowed to skip to different sections of the video(the beginning of each segment), but they are not allowed to skip forward in a particular segment, unless they've already answered the question for that particular segment.
Here is a preview of how the segment are laid out: I can figure out how to determine if they can or cannot seek, but I just dont know how I can only constrain seeking to particular sections of that timeline.

I have a problem streaming on-demand f4v-files longer than 1 hour! The video starts normaly playing the stream and the player shows the correct overall duration. But if you start skipping/seeking the overall duration change to 13 h 20m and 28s (instead of 1 hour) and the stream breaks down. All f4v files with less than one hour duration works fine with playing and skipping!
I encode the f4v files with Adobe Media Encoder. I have also checked the f4v file with FLVcheck (passed). So, does anybody have an idea in fixing this problem and which format is the best for FMS streaming (MP4, FLV, F4V?)?
SAMPLE: Try to skip/seek and check the duratoin! [URL]

I implemented a flv player with actionscript 3.0. The player loads a list which contains the url of flv. Users allow to choose different flv to play. However, when playing 3rd flv, the player uses a lot of time to play.

I am using sendAndLoad heavily in my fms3.5.2 application because it accesses an API on the webserver to execute commands. It calls a PHP file on the webserver which connects to a database, does some processing and returns XML output. Now, LoadVars has been giving me problems for months now. I suspect it is the reason my application crashes intermittently.
Also, lately.. it takes about 2 minutes just for the sendAndLoad to reach the onData stage. I have no idea why. This is not a problem of the PHP taking long to display the XML because if I access the PHP directly using `links` linux command, then it returns practically immediately.

For some reason connecting to Flash Media Server 3.5 takes around 40 seconds. The server is running on Windows Server 2008 (64-bit edition) on a virtual server located in a reliable hosting center and I'm connecting to it over the internet. The server is using built-in Windows Firewall with all the inbound TCP ports required by Flash Media Server opened (80, 1935 and 1111).
If I disable the server's firewall the connection time drops to 20 seconds, but it's still pretty damn long time just for establishing connection. We probably have some company firewall at this end (the client side), but other streaming media services works just fine over this connection.

I'm trying to play some sounds in my flash project through action script. However for some reason in my code the call to Sound.play takes from 40ms to over 100ms in extreme cases, which is obviously more than enough to be very noticeable whenever a sound is played. This happens every time a sound is played, not just when that sound is first played, so I dont think its because the Sound object is still loading data or anything like that...
At the start I have this to load the sound:
class MyClass
{
[Embed(source='data/test_snd.mp3')] private var TestSound:Class;
private var testSound:Sound;//flash.media.Sound
[Code].....
This as far as I can tell is following the same process as other Flash programs I found, however none of them seem to have this problem. Is there something that I've missed that would cause the play() method to be so slow?

why dynamic streaming taking too much time to switch video from lower bit rate to higher bit rate and vice versa. I am doing dynamic streaming in following ways -
var param:NetStreamPlayOptions = new NetStreamPlayOptions();
param.oldStreamName=oldStream();
param.streamName=newStream()
[code]....
I am using duel buffering and that is 3 seconds when video starts and 10 seconds when "NetStream.Buffer.Full". Video taking approximately 30-50 seconds to switch video and when I am calling the above code.

I was following a tutorial, but it was a little bit limited in options.So what I wanted is to have a few buttons and when we clicked on them they would play a different video. I found the cove above, but I wanted it to have at least one or two extra things.For example I didn't wanted the video to start immediately without any click on the button.And I would like to have a close button that would remove the video player from stage (I tried some things, but the best I got was only removing the video player but I could still ear the video playing).[code]

I'm trying to play a 10 minute long video (h264/mp4) which is 39MB in size, after I call stream.play(fileURL) it doesn't start playback until its loaded around 12-16MB of the file (many many seconds later), I finally get onMetaData at this point too. Why doesn't it begin playback right away, or at least w/in a couple seconds? What can cause this bloated lead in time?

I have my shiny new FMS 3.5 server. There is the multi-rate example which provides a "Cut and Paste" object tag to embed the video.... e.g.
<object width='640' height='377' id='videoPlayer' name='videoPlayer' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' classid='clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' ><param name='movie' value='swfs/videoPlayer.swf' /> <param name='quality' value='high' /> <param name='bgcolor' value='#000000' /> <param name='allowfullscreen' value='true' /> <param name='flashvars' value= '&videoWidth=0&videoHeight=0&dsControl=manual&dsSensitivity=100&serve rURL=dynamicStream.smil&DS_Status=true&streamType=vod&autoStart=true&v
[code]....
I paste this into a web page hosted on another ( ordinary, nonFMS ) server, I see the player show up, but after 5 seconds I get message that the player cannot connect, please click Play to try again. Of course same work fine if the page is hosted out of webroot on the FMS server. So I assume the "example" does not include absolute URL's so I tried hacking in full URL's for the swfs/videoPlayer.swf and the rtmp:/ URLs to no avail. Which makes it a pretty poor "example" IMO. I also noticed that the .smil file itself also includes a relative URL to the vod app, I modified that as well - the object tags still works only when hosted from the /webroot folder.
So what should this "example" really look like with absolute URL's to use in a real way? Also is there some content protection mechanism which is preventing this from being embedded in other pages not hosted locally?

I have a web page that allows users to upload video files. Part of the process is that once a video is uploaded it goes through the flvcheck to make sure it is good. For some reason when I upload a large video (over 1.5 GB) it fails the flvcheck. When I run flvcheck manually on the video, it passes.

so encore has the 'export to flash" feature. it seems like it might be a good way to go for me becasue it prodcces a flash player with all my chapter markers in place. i have a couple questions though
1. it is limited to 1280X720 - i would have to do custom flash development to overcome that?
2. how is the resulting videos that are called by the flashdvd.swf served? i mean if i have 1-2GB of video clips are they served one at a time when called by the player?
3. is there any way to get the flashdvd.swf to fallback on iOS and maintain all the funtionality ?

As some Internet tutorial suggested I've built a simple server-client application for FLV Video Player using PHP and Flex. The problem I encountered is that I can't change the source of the video in the mxml file using Notepad++. The source could be changed if I run Flex but It's not a good idea because I want to run different videos through this player.how to run different videos with this Flex Video Player component because my application works only for this given in the source of FlexPlayer.mxml-maybe I shouldn't use this mxml file for the different Video Sources?

I got roped into assembling a cd of videos to send out to jazz students for my video class and I'm a bit over my head code-wise, so I'm turning to the pros. The project has about 5 different videos that are all suppose to play (locally from the disk) when the corresponding button is clicked, and they need to be scaled and positioned on the video section of the background img. I can make the buttons work, scale and position is no issue, but can't get one video to stop and the other to start.
I thought I would simply just removeChild the current video and start up the next one. When I took the project I thought it would be simple, but I had never really worked much with video so when I dug into it I found myself a bit overwhelmed. How to work with local media (I found tons of stuff on streaming it from the web) all I need is to make one video stop and another play when a button is clicked.

Is there a possibility - instead of attaching a camera [via ns.attachcamera()] to a netstream - to "attach" e.g. BitmapData to netstream. The reason is, that I use BitmapData's .draw method to get the webcam video in order to change it, such as with the .treshold method. And I want to record and save these altered bitmaps (as a video) on the FMS instead the original webcam video.
[URL]
Two videos are shown, the left one is the original from the webcam, the right one the "modified" video. Only the modified video shall be recorded via the netstream .publish method.

My swf is playing one video in using NetConnection, NetStream and Video object. If I want to stream one more video simultaneously in the same swf I have a few problems. It works when I create more NetConnection, NetStream and Video objects but is that necessary? The code rapidly becomes complex to handle.
Is there an easier way like perhaps share the NetConnection, or something (same FMS server)?
Question 2
The two videos on the stage are suppose to have different size, placement etc. Still the last one created inherit the properties of the first video display. It also starts playing for an annoying couple of seconds before the first one. How can I avoid that (inherit and delay)?
var ns1:NetStream;
var ns2:NetStream;
var nc1:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
