I have no success binding mxml control to AC3 object property. I'm new to AC3/Flex and assume my aproach is kinda "Javascript like" and might be completely wrong. Here's mxml (don't pay attention to mistypes/syntax errors):

Is it possible to set a percentage value for the width property of an UIComponent defined in MXML using data binding?
What I try to achieve is something like this (which doesn't work):
<s:Button width="{buttonWidth}%"/>
I know that using percentage for width or height properties in MXML is kind of a hack in the Flex SDK, since they're supposed to accept numerical values only, but since percentWidth and percentHeight aren't available in MXML, I'm pretty stuck =/
I would really like to avoid using code to do such a simple thing, in order to keep my code as clear and readable as posible.
I am trying to:
1) create a dynamic property
2) bind that property to a label
This works great for "sealed properties", but for dynamic properties there doesn't appear to be any event triggered. Are dynamic properties implicityly not bindable?

I'm trying to do this using only mxml, no <script> tags, although I don't necessarily need a solution that's only mxml. It was more of an educational exercise to see if I could do it all in mxml. I have a custom component that has a slider and textinput and their value/text properties are bound together. I'm surfacing a few properties of the slider in my component so that it can sort of be treated like a slider.

Lately i discovered MATE (for Flex development) and was wondering: how do i bind a property in a view (actually a navigatorcontent component) to another property in a class so that they stay in synchronization (meaning that whenever the property in the class changes the property in the view also changes).
So if we have a view called Target.mxml and a property targertProp how do we bind it to the class called SourceClass with property SourceProp?
I love MXML but am starting to notice some of its drawbacks. The main one I'm struggling with is its larger memory usage due to the need for binding. In the super simple code snippet below, which I've tested on Flex 4.0[code]...
My main question: is there any way to set variables in MXML that doesn't eat up memory? I'm aware that I can do this explicitly in AS and keep MXML as a bare bone structure but was wondering if there was an alternative path.
Secondary question: why memory usage in c different from a and b? I've looked up at the intermediate code and it seems like the const case still sets up some binding logic but not as much and have been wondering why that is.
i have a UILoader that loads an image from an xml list when you click its thumbnail ( in its thumbnails mc on mainstage aswell) thing is, i have another UILoader on the layer above that loads in a swf ( a slideshow that fades in and out the pictures when they change to the next, with all the coding on frame 1, frame 2 only has a stop and some code for when the mouse is idle for 5 secs it goes back to frame 1) so when you go to "portraits" it takes you to frame "x" where the slideshow ( loaded external swf ) starts playing automaticly right, if i click any thumbnail the slideshow goes to frame 2 ( wich is perfect and the mouse idle thing i wanted works great ) the ONLY THING IS
after the slideshow runs by default for the first time ( i enter the category portraits ) and i click any thumbnail ( moving slideshow swf to frame 2 enabling mouse idle event ) and the mouse is idle ( so it does the event and starts playing the slideshow again ( goes back to frame 1 ) ) I CANT MAKE THE UILOADER OF THE THUMBS IMAGE TO DISSAPPEAR!
I have a class that converts external XML to various controls. The class makes a check to see what kind of control to use from the XML (Radio / Textinput / Date etc). and then adds it as a child of a form item, the form item is then added to the parent form and the loop is repeated until all nodes have been checked for controls. This work great. I would like to bind the data in the control with a data model but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
I saw in the livedocs you can create models in MXML but I don't think this will work as the model will change depending on the XML as well as the items that are recorded. Another thought was to pack all the values into an array but I couldn't get this to work. If the array looks like a good idea I'd like to record 3 values within the array called 'answers' I'll post my code below...

I am using Flex to create a small form. All I have at the moment is a List component, that I want to populate with a list of font names.I am getting the fonts using Font.enumerateFonts(true);. This returns an array of flash.text.Font objects.
The Font objects have a fontName property that is a String of that fonts name.My problem is that I can't figure out how to bind the List's dataProvider to the fontName property of each of the Font objects in the Array.Is there a way to do this just with binding? and not creating a new array of Strings by looping through the Font objects?
class A: with a property "data:ArrayCollection". It's my data source (data provider) and has bitmaps.
class B: has an instance of A (called "Ainst") and calls the following method: C.init( Ainst.data). To pass the data provider to Object C.
class C: has a reference of the data provider "data" (because of "init" method). It shows the arrayCollection into Images as: Image.source = data.getItemAt(0).
But C never updates its images, that is, data binding doesn't work with this scheme. I've put [Bindable] meta-tag in all properties and even classes.

What's the difference between selectedChild property and selectedIndex property? I read the documentation, both seems to be setting currect active accordion. selectedChild can be only used in actionscript, but other than this, what's the difference?

The slider works well when I'm in the scene that contains the slider. When I go to a scene that does not include the slider, I get the following output error. TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. How can I stop the stage.add.EventListener when I navigate to other scenes that don't include the slider. This is my first as3 project. The project functions as it should but I don't know if the output error will cause problems later.

In Flash development, a lot of us did this for (automatically) declared stage instances like "mcMyTabBar" or "navMC" or "playPauseBTN". I'm looking for input from the Flex community about this. Am I just overthinking things? All of the related Style Guides and best practices documents I've read on the topic just say "use camelCase for ids, and make sure the id property is the first property". What's your take?

I have a somewhat complex parent/child hierarchy object that I need to display in a tree format that dynamically updates. To pass it into the tree as a dataprovider I convert the top level parent into an Array and then into an ArrayCollection. The problem there is if anything changes in the hierarchy the tree isn't dynamically updated unless I regenerate the dataprovider.
EDIT: I didn't have much code shown so I just tried to include the skeleton version of how everything is being used below, the tree works fine and even when I remove/add nodes the changes are evident but the vertical scroll bar isn't updated(doesn't resize) and if I scroll the tree will get out of whack and may display whitespace at the bottom of the tree where the item was just removed.
I tried just a plain bindable ArrayCollection test object with multiple levels and it updates properly so I think my tree is fine it's just how I'm trying to bind the dataprovider that I'm having the issues.

Let's say I have an interface
public interface IFoo {

and have it be instantiated at runtime by a factory.
However, the compiler won't let me do this-- it's trying to do "new IFoo" in the generated ActionScript.
How to get around this? How can I use an interface and a factory purely in MXML?
Latest_News_Display is under the Latest_News state. I want to set Latest_News_Display's x property even if the currentState is set to Intro. However, when I try to use Latest_News.Latest_News_Display.x = 10,it returns an error that says 1120: Access of undefined property Latest_News

I have some MXML elements which i would like to remove and add to a parent element. Unfortunately I am constrained to removing the MXML object as this is handled by the custom component. So is there any way to reinstate a removed MXML element back into the display list?
