ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling "super" After Defining An Object Sets It To Null?
Jul 15, 2010
In my subclass, I call "super()" after setting an object's data. Whenever you set the object's data, "super()" sets it back to null. Meanwhile, if I define arrays before "super()", they do not get reset.
Is it possible to call a method in the super class of a super class? I tried the above and it doesn't work, unsurprisingly. Only way I've been able to do it is to store a reference to a super.someMethod in the super Class (eg. var superMethod: Function = super.someMethod) and call that instead. Seems reasonable and it works but wonder if there is an in-built method for doing this?
I'm having a hard time because of an "Error #1009:Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference" Iget everytime I try to run my Flash-movie. I've attached the codethat is contained in frame 1.The function bringUpEasyQuestion is defined on frame 2, alongwith other functions that are defined there. Now when I test themovie, I get this message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method ofa null object reference.at MES_fla::MainTimeline/bringUpEasyQuestion()atMES_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()I've read that the Error1009-message means that you aretrying to access something that isn't there yet. And indeed, thebringUpEasyQuestion-function accesses objects that exist only onframe 2. But the first line of the function bringUpEasyQuestion isgotoAndStop(2);. The curious thing is that it works when i put thelast line of the code in frame one (the function callbringUpEasyQuestion(0);) on the first line with the command gotoAndStop(2);?
If a constructor takes its parameters as a vararg (...) it seems to be impossible to create a subclass that will just pass on that vararg to the superclass.
There is a related question with fix for this same situation for normal functions: Wrapping a Vararg Method in ActionScipt but I cannot get that to work with a super call.
base class:
public class Bla { public function Bla(...rest) {
[Code]....
Aside from actually moving the handling of the parameters to the subclass or shifting it off to a separate initializer method
I have called this flash code in Flex using SWF loader . I got the following Error. Here I have attached flash coding for header_text_fla Kindly do the needful.
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at header_text_fla::MainTimeline/loaderComplete() var myEvent:Event; var myParams:LoaderInfo;
I am trying to create a spark datagrid item renderer. This item renderer extends a checkbox, and implements IGridItemRenderer public class CellCheckBoxItemRenderer extends CheckBox implements IGridItemRenderer
When I implement IGridItemRenderer, I need to implement the interface methods, I am having a problem with the following methods:
I am trying to extend the new AutoComplete component from Adobe. In two different places I need to bypass the AutoComplete methods and get right at the ComboBox methods.
I was told that super.super.someMethod() works just like it does in Java. But I keep getting Compiler errors:1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before super.Any suggestions other than just cutting and pasting the code and extending the AutoComplete superClass?
but i realize i do not know the syntax of what i want to do. So i have an event handler and i want to do different things depending on the object type. i could do
If I set an Object = null, does that remove all references to the Object's variables assuming there are no external references to said variables? Or do I have to manually set all said variables = null?
the script i wrote is working fine. but the script attached to the flash player which i have no control over is throwing a script error (im using IE8).how can i fix this? if i run it locally there is no error.
I think I am on the right track here but if someone could help that would be great. I have a piece of code that loops ON_ENTER_FRAME and it is used to check if a pistolBullet is hitting a barrel.
The problem I have is that I can check for collision of a barrel, if I manually type the name 'barrel', 'barrel2' etc within this code:
Code: var cnms = this.cNames.split("|"); myDP = new Array({cnms[0]:"Chris", cnms[1]:"Priceless"}, {cnms[0]:"Nigel", cnms[1]:"Cheap"});
Obviously, this doesn't work, otherwise I wouldn't be typing this right now. How do I define an object with variable properties ? I've tried eval(), but it doesn't work either.
I have the following piece of code(part of a much bigger program). I this code I am re-using a motion that has been previously used successfully. The trace stmts are used to identify the exact location of the error and the error conditions as best I can.[code]
When you cast null to an object using Object(null), the result is an object.When you cast undefined to an object using Object(undefined), the result is an object.But saying null as Object or undefined as Object remains null.Why is this? I can't find anything in the documentation about this.
The objects that result from these casts can have properties set on and read from them. It's as if the cast created information, or removed whatever special information the null and undefined values have. But there's no indication in the AS3 documentation that the null and undefined special types are actually objects.
I have a task: I need to place about 100 sprites on one canvas (with prepared grid on it). I need to place them as invisible (circles) stones, on the board, and make visible only on mouseover. The problem I come across is following, I can't place those objects accurately into the nodes on the grid.
I am trying to add an EventListener to a MC, but I am getting the 1009 error. My script is referencing a MC that does exist. I have verified that my code is typed correctly, and that my instance names are correct.I am creating a portfolio site. On the first frame I have my main navigation (well, it's actually not the first frame. I alpha-fade everything in so it's really the 6th or 7th, but I'm not sure how pertinent that is). The main navigation works fine (5 movie clips, fyi). Clicking them will move to a different frame, and the information and sub navigation for the frame will fade up. It is the sub navigation that I am having trouble with.[code]
As you can see, it doesn't even get to the function before it gets thrown off. I have verified that the instance names are correct. The script and the MC I am trying to add it too [I/]are[I/] in the same frame, which is what's stumping me. Normally you get 1009 when the object you're trying to reference is not there, but mine is!!Obviously there is something wrong with my EventListener. I am not sure what else do; there is a gap in my understanding of AS.
I am trying to call a method that has some xml functionality and It keeps coming up null.What I am trying to do is; I have a page that has four dynamic text fields that get their content from an xml file. I would like to create a method that will output the contents to display in the dynamic field. Maybe my approach is WAY off here, but my supervisor wants all xml related tasks contained in a xml.as fileMain.as
I've basically got an MC (menu_mc) that is on the first frame of the main timeline. I want menu_mc to call functions on the main timeline depending on its status. When the function is successfully called, I want to move menu_mc, however I get a null object reference despite the object menu_mc being visible on the stage.
As you can see from the commented out lines, I've tried doing the same thing with eventDispatcher, but have been unable to listen to the event from the main timeline.It seems as if the function is being called before menu_mc is placed on the stage, despite the ADDED_TO_STAGE eventListener.
public class Example { public function Example () { }[code]............
You can see that the two last classes extend the first one, and both have the 'variable' property. In case that I have an instance of Example and I am sure it is also an ExtendedExample OR AnotherExtendedExample instance, is there some way to access the 'variable' property? Something like
function functionThatReceivesAnExtendedExample (ex:Example):void { if(some condition that I may need) { ex.func()
I have an object which is assigned a number of properties:
var project_array:Array = []; var slideObject:Object = { project_title : myXML.projects.project[i].title.toUpperCase(),
[Code].....
but I'm not quite sure where to place this. If I place it outside of the object constructor, I get "term is undefined", I guess because it doesn't know what project_clips_array is - but if I declare project_clips_array in the constructor, it appears to need to be defined, i.e. I can't create a blank property. But I can't place it in the constructor either, because it doesn't seem to allow me to run a function within an object constructor. What is the proper syntax or arrangement of code for executing this function to get the array within the object?
Steps - Make 2 MovieClips. One MC will be a 500x400 picture. The other MC, will be a simple circle called "Ball". Make that Ball a Class by editing the properties, and assigning it the Class name "Ball" as well.1) Picture is static, so we have the picture MC sitting on Frame 1.2) Within the Document Class file, instantiate the new "Ball" class with name "ball" 2a) I want the "Ball" to be added to the picture class, so that every time I call it, the Ball is inside the picture. If you were to trace it - trace (picture.ball);Anyone know how to go about doing this? The code for simply instantiating the "Ball" class = Code:var ball = new Ball(); addChild(ball);
I have problem with accessing object created by function imported from another package. I have 2 packages DragDrop and UserInterface. In UserInterface I create methods for buttons and later add them in DragDrop . I make it in two different ways: One(this one works):
I am getting this error, randomly when I start my application (and it's sub applications). As you can see the stack trace is rather useless, although through the debugger I can see the parent of container (second in the stack) is an MXML class that has a repeater that repeats another component. Therefore I guess the component with the problem is that repeated component, although I am unsure what I can change to stop this from happening. If anyone can give me some insight to the FocusManager or the getFocus() function it would be really handy.[code]
