ActionScript 3.0 :: Change Name Property Of Root ?
Sep 8, 2009
So when you have a Document class, it is added as an object to the stage. If the equivalent of stage.getChildAt(0); is traced in any custom class linked to the Document class it will output the Document class (ex: GalleryDocument). If you trace it's name property like so stage.getChildAt(0).name; it will output root1.
Is it possible to assign a different name to the Document class or is there a limitation on changing the name property when it comes to the root object?
Ive a quick question on using root property when swf's are loaded in other swf's. Is it safe/wise to reference MovieClip(this.root) in packages/classes if the swf will be loaded and placed inside another swf? I read once that root will always refer to maintimeline, and all objects have the same root. So...will the root change in some way if a preloader loads the main swf?
I created a new slideshow in flash CS3 - AS3 but my code that I had for xml caching is barking at me and I am not sure what to do. The output window shows access to undefined property root.
Can we put [Bindable] on functions/methods? I know that bindable is used to change the value of the source property to destination property. But not sure if we can use that for methods. why we cannot put/ if we can then what will be the outcome?
I have this error when running my application on debug mode :
ReferenceError: Error #1056: Cannot create property root on MyClass.
The problem is that MyClass doesn't contain any root property and i don't know how it get it, I have isRoot property at the Java Class with setRoot setter and isRoot methods,
at the flex side i have isRoot as public without getter and setter.... could the problem be just convention names compatibility
I have a MainClass from where I can call Stage. In the MainClass I call another class named Subclass, and in that one I call my ThirdClass. ThirdClass is initialized fine, but my problem appears when I want to call the Stage within the ThirdClass, to align the Stage. When I compile I receive the message: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property align through a reference with static type Class.
I have a question regarding Flash CS3 with AS2.My main Scene (Scene1) has a button that uses loadmovie to bring up a nav swf. That nav swf has buttons that I want to open other scenes (i.e. Scene2). Right now my script is:
I have a question regarding Flash CS3 with AS2. My main Scene (Scene1) has a button that uses loadmovie to bring up a nav swf. That nav swf has buttons that I want to open other scenes (i.e. Scene2). Right now my script is:
on (release) { gotoAndPlay("Scene1", 1);}
That doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
i have a class .as file which extends MovieClip. inside the .as file there is a public function and when called upon it needs to change the value of a property that is on the maintimeline
Code: package { import flash.display.*[code]....
problem is this error 1119: Access of possibly undefined property gear_num through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObjectContainer.
I am interested in creating a similar color change effect as seen at:As you can see, the color transforms as each menu item is clicked but it doesn't seem to load a new movie.
i can't get this preloader to work. i test it out, and it hangs. i've tried to change my _root to _parent values and nada. it just shows 0% and does nothing. here's the AS that i am using:

i got it off a tutorial a while ago. it seems to work in other flash movies that i have created, but not on this one. i've even re-built it from scratch, and still nada.
We are trying to install our Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server. The problem we are facing is that Apache which comes with FMS is set to be run from /home/Apache2.2.21_x64 for some odd reason. Even though we install whole FMS to /opt/adobe/fms folder Apache still has /home/Apache2.2.21_x64 everywhere compilled in. Is there a way to change Apache root folder?
I have created a function on the root timeline, to be called at a certain point (when the character is on a certain frame and so is the certain item, he loses a life)the lives_mc advances frame by frame to show lives being lost.heres the function
Code: function loseLife(){ if(_root.lives_mc._currentframe=1){ _root.lives_mc._currentframe=1[code].....
I was just working in a Flash file, and an mc was in the top left, with an x vale of around 12px.I copied and pasted that mc into another file, and when I looked back at the first file, the x value was 448.6px.
i'm not very good at AS3, but i imported XML to my flash and i want to change it dynamically from drop down menu. I need to change "THISPLACE" in script below with simple string, how do i do that?
Let's say I have about 100+ buttons. They all have the same label. Now I want to change the label for all with a click. I could give them IDs and then run a for loop, but I'm searching for a neater solution.[code]...
I have a custom component on which I have bound an array collection to one of its proeprties: <comp:MyComp id="comp" prop="{images}" /> images is an arraycollection In the components' code I would like to know which event to listen on everytime images updates props. I tried a setter on props but the setter only gets called once when props is first set. I tried the collection event but I get "Update" events sent on top of 'add' and 'remove' events and I would rather not have to manage those. So is there an event(flex or otherwise) that is fired every time a component property is updated by a bindable property?
I have a dynamic textfield which seems normal with the text I set by Flash IDE, but it disappears when I change it's text property, programmatically.Except if I set the textfield to use no anti-aliasing (Bitmap text [no anti-alias]);
I don't know why that's happening, maybe it's because the font I'm using, (it's the Helvetica Neue, Black Condensed) or it is some Flash CS5 Bug.[code]...
I'm re-writing an MXML item renderer in pure AS. A problem I can't seem to get past is how to have each item renderer react to a change on a static property on the item renderer class. In the MXML version, I have the following binding set up on the itemenderer:instanceProperty=callInstanceFunction(ItemRenderer.staticProperty)What would be the equivalent way of setting this up in AS (using BindingUtils, I assume)?PDATE:So I thought the following wasn't working, but it appears as if Flex is suppressing errors thrown in the instanceFunction, making it appear as if the binding itself is bad. indingUtils.bindSetter(instanceFunction, ItemRenderer, "staticProperty");However, when instanceFunction is called, already initialized variables on the given instance are all null, which was the cause of the errors referenced above.
I am having a real problem with one of my components. I have a list object and I need to set the selectedIndex. Now I would think this would be easy, but it appears that for just this instance the selectedIndex property is read only. I have set the property for other instances, and I can read the property for this instance, but I cannot change it.
-movieheight is a variable in the movie which has been loaded into level1. -project is a movie clip (I made sure I named it properly). -mytext is a text box in the main timeline of the movie in level1. (I set the variable to mytext for this box too). I have tried to use eval("_root._level1.project.height"), but nothing works - the movie's height never shows up in the text box. Debug > List Variables tells me that movieheight is "undefined".
Is there any method to change the property of b2World dynamically?.. I want to apply a wind effect at some level of my game.. My idea is to change the property of b2World object that i created..
Or is there any other method to crate that effect?..
I want to know how i change the property tint with animation of a movieclip when i press ou do Mouse over in the same moviclip. but i like to do this with as3.
On creation complete my parent component executes an "init" function which simply sets public bindable variables in child components. I'd like the child components to watch these variables and upon being set use them. However, for some reason the ChangeWatcher is not firing with the change of the variable. Below is my code;
Parent Component private function init():void { userInfo.user = new User("Tom");
Where presenter variable is defined here in MXML and a Presenter class has boxBusy and boxErrorMessage variables defined as bindable property change events:
[Bindable(event="propertyChange")] function get boxBusy():Boolean; function set boxBusy(value:Boolean):void;
[Code]....
PROBLEM is that whenever I change boxErrorMessage for the presenter, I see the affect in MXML but nothing happens at all when I change boxBusy. Is there something extra I need to do with boolean variable?
