Flex :: ChangeWatcher Not Firing On Bound Property Change?

Sep 30, 2010

On creation complete my parent component executes an "init" function which simply sets public bindable variables in child components. I'd like the child components to watch these variables and upon being set use them. However, for some reason the ChangeWatcher is not firing with the change of the variable. Below is my code;

Parent Component
private function init():void
{
userInfo.user = new User("Tom");

Actionscript 3 :: Flex: Listening For Events From A Yet-to-be-bound Property?

Jun 18, 2009

I've got a class like this:

class Foo extends UIComponent {
var someDispatcher:*;
...
}

And I want to listen for events fired by someDispatcher... But, of course, someDispatcher may not be bound until "later":

<components:Foo someDispatcher="{someOtherComponent}" />

What's the best way to listen for events from someDispatcher?I know I could bind to someDispatcher, then wire up the event handlers when it's updated... Or I could use getters/setters...

Flex :: DataGrid Editing Cells In Same Row Not Firing Collection Change Event

Mar 20, 2010

I am using the flex datagrid to allow the user to edit some data. My update process relies on a CollectionEvent of type update. Basically I catch this event package the values and update the database. However, if the user edits a cell then moves to edit a cell in the same row the value is updated but a collection event is not fired. Only when clicking out of the row the event is fired. Has anyone had experience with this. I have heard the datagrid is a little quirky is this one of those quirks or am I doing this all wrong?

Flex :: Get ChangeWatcher To Fire When XML Is Appended To?

Feb 25, 2010

So I had a requirement to add an undo function to my app and I discovered this nifty ChangeWatcher class, but it's not doing exactly what I want and I'm hoping someone knows how.ChangeWatcher seems to monitor assignments to the variable reference. So when I say:

myXML = <xml/>

it fires off it's function just fine and dandy, but when I say: myXML.appendChild(thisOtherXMLVar)

I get nothing, even though the variable changes the reference doesn't so ChangeWatcher doesn't fire off the function.how to get ChangeWatcher to pick up on all changes to a variable?

Flex :: Components Property Change Event

Sep 28, 2010

I have a custom component on which I have bound an array collection to one of its proeprties: <comp:MyComp id="comp" prop="{images}" /> images is an arraycollection In the components' code I would like to know which event to listen on everytime images updates props. I tried a setter on props but the setter only gets called once when props is first set. I tried the collection event but I get "Update" events sent on top of 'add' and 'remove' events and I would rather not have to manage those. So is there an event(flex or otherwise) that is fired every time a component property is updated by a bindable property?

Flex :: React To Change On A Static Property?

Jun 1, 2009

I'm re-writing an MXML item renderer in pure AS. A problem I can't seem to get past is how to have each item renderer react to a change on a static property on the item renderer class. In the MXML version, I have the following binding set up on the itemenderer:instanceProperty=callInstanceFunction(ItemRenderer.staticProperty)What would be the equivalent way of setting this up in AS (using BindingUtils, I assume)?PDATE:So I thought the following wasn't working, but it appears as if Flex is suppressing errors thrown in the instanceFunction, making it appear as if the binding itself is bad. indingUtils.bindSetter(instanceFunction, ItemRenderer, "staticProperty");However, when instanceFunction is called, already initialized variables on the given instance are all null, which was the cause of the errors referenced above.

Flex :: - First Window Width/bound Gets Ignored?

Mar 31, 2011

I have a window in which I want to add/remove component and resize the window accordingly based on states. but for some reason it's ignoring the first resize.here's a sample code

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"

[code]....

when the state change to 'two', I want to add rect2 to display and increase the minWidth and size of the window. And when the state change to 'one', i want to remove rect2 from display and resize the window. This seems to work except the window doesn't shrink on the very first time the state change from "two" to "one" but works as expected afterwards. I'm not sure why it's ignoring first time I reduce the width. I also tried changing nativeWindow.bounds directly but that didn't work either.

Originally I just tried setting minWidth based on state (minWidth.one="450 minWidth.two="791") but that caused window to grow on left and shrink on right which caused the window to move left whenever the state changed. so then I just moved the window to right whenever state changed but that caused some flicker that I didn't want.

Actionscript 3 :: Bindable Property Change Event In Flex?

Sep 20, 2011

I've got a component called Box.as that has following two properties, and have their getters & setters defined:

private var _busy:Boolean;
private var _errorMessage:String;

In MXML that uses this component I define it like this:

<components:Box skinClass="skins.components.BoxSkin"
busy="{presenter.boxBusy}"
errorMessage="{presenter.boxErrorMessage}"/>

Where presenter variable is defined here in MXML and a Presenter class has boxBusy and boxErrorMessage variables defined as bindable property change events:

[Bindable(event="propertyChange")]
function get boxBusy():Boolean;
function set boxBusy(value:Boolean):void;

[Code]....

PROBLEM is that whenever I change boxErrorMessage for the presenter, I see the affect in MXML but nothing happens at all when I change boxBusy. Is there something extra I need to do with boolean variable?

Flex :: Disable/enable A Group Of Components (or Change A Property)

Mar 24, 2012

How can I enable or disable a group of components in flex (flash builder 4)?

For example, if I have a window with several fields, I want to disable them based on the users permissions.

I know I can add the enabled="true" or "enabled="false", and I can also use enabled="{writeAccessVar}"

However, I am looking for more ideas, as I might have more than one group of fields on the screen, or more complicated user permissions.

For example, I will currently have one field with write access, the other fields on the screen read only for a certain user level.

For a higher level user, all fields are writable. Lower level, all are read-only.

Flex :: Rendering A Bound TileList - Get A Blank Screen For An Odd Second?

May 14, 2010

I have an mx:TileList which is bound to an ArrayCollection.I have some code that displays a "Loading..." message before modifying the ArracyCollection and some code after that hides the loading message.For small data sets, it works fine. However, I noticed with an array size of about 50~ and larger, flex will hide my loading message before the TileList is finished rendering the new data and I'm left with a blank screen for an odd second.Is there an event I can listen to that is called after the TileList is finished re-rendering? Code looks something like this:

loading_message.visible = true;
for each (var x:Object in new_data) {
tile_list_data.append(x); // bound to my_tile_list component[code]..........

In this example, loading_message appear, disappear, and then the flex app will lag before finally revealing the updated TileList.

Flex :: Make Changes To An ArrayCollection Bound To Data Grid Live?

Feb 21, 2010

I have an ArrayCollection bound to an editable DataGrid, another component needs to know when the ArrayCollection changes (as a result of changes in the DataGrid) so it can also update itself, so is listening to the COLLECTION_CHANGE event of the ArrayCollection.

The problem is that the DataGrid only updates the ArrayCollection when the row being edited losses focus. This is not good for my app as a user could edit a column on a row and not click elsewhere on the table for a long time (causing the row to lose fucus), therefore the changes won't have propagated to the other parts of the application.

How can I make the data grid inform the ArrayCollection of a change every time there is a keyup event on a text input instead of every time a row looses focus?

Actionscript 3 :: Simplest Handling Of NaN In Bound Form Input In Flex?

Jan 24, 2011

How can I cause numbers with no value to show up blank instead of NaN on forms?Let's say I have a User class with an optional weight (kgs) value, of type Number. If I edit a User in Flex I get the user object from the server and bind weightInput.text to user.weight. If weight is null on the server it will be translated to NaN in Flex, and then the value of weight in the edit form showes up as NaN. That is really inconvenient, as I would like it to just be blank if it has no value.
