ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Dynamic Menu In Flash - Array Conversion

Dec 2, 2010

I've Googled & Binged to no avail. I'm trying to create a dynamic menu in Flash using PHP & MySQL and bring it into Flash using AS3 DataProvider. My menu works fine with a local Array, but I seem to have an issue with the Type being a String and not an Array, but how do I set it up properly so the types are correct? So I started with a typical, non-dynamic array and it works to create my menu:

[flash=]var items1:Array = [
{myClass:"SCI101", question:"What color is the sky?"},
{myClass:"MATH110", question:"What is the square root of 81?"},
{myClass:"SCI101", question:"How fast is the turtle?"},
{myClass:"SCI101", question:"How far is the Earth from Mars?"},
{myClass:"xXxXxXx", question:"xXxXxXx"},

ActionScript 3.0 :: Conversion Utility That Uses Number Input Via Calculator Style Buttons To Generate Conversion

Mar 13, 2012

im trying to create a conversion utility that uses number input via calculator style buttons to generate conversion for the following distances:

-Miles to/from KM
-cm to/from mm
-binary to/from decimal

Now i was thinking of possibly having the options contained within an drop down and an input text field where the numbers are entered via the calculator buttons. The only thing im struggling with is how to perform the actual calculations on the different formats. Has anyone had to do anything similar in the past? Ive only found currency conversion examples and not sure how to apply that to these conversions.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamic Conversion To Movie Clip?

Nov 26, 2008

I have a requirement wherein I have to draw some of the elctronic components like resistors, capacitors and inductors. I have tried using the image and converted it to the Movieclip, but it has some limitations with respect to our requirement and also doesnt look natural. Is it possible to draw the components using basic shapes and then try converting it to movie clip. I want to assign some events to the ends of the components(small end wires for connecting the components) say like highlighting the wire end by drawing a circle on mouse focus on these points. This requirement is not possible with the image being converted to
movieclip.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Conversion From Static To Dynamic Flashvar

Jun 7, 2010

Would like to receive the flashvar "filepath=.$name" which contains a string which is the dynamically generated file path to xml file. I would like the flashvar to replace the "xmlfile.php", which is the file playlist.load opens. E.g.
playlist.load("xmlfile.php"); works with this
playlist.load(flashvar); would like this if possible or the equivalent

The file loads the xmlfile.php correctly and will read and play files, I would just like to make this
"playlist.load("xmlfile.php");
" load the flashvar.filepath (contains file path).

var myflashvars:Object = this.root.loaderInfo.parameters;
for(var s:String in myflashvars) {
playlist.load = (myflashvars[s]);
}
//Passing the flashvars;
<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />
<param name="flashvars" value="<?php echo "filepath=".$listxml; ?>" /></object>

Flash :: Saving Dynamic Drawing, Then Re-loading?

Jan 30, 2010

the short version of what i need to do - via AS3 and PHP - is a user can come to this project and draw something. drawing's no problem, that's done. my issue is figuring out how to take that drawing data, converting it into something i can save to my database ... then reload said data and recreate it on the stage when the user "loads" it.

i guess i'm just searching for a way to take drawn data (just using typical as3 drawing methods) and breaking it down to a string, then bringing that string back in and recreating it. i'm not super versed in ByteArrays - which i suspect is where my answer lies.

user doesn't need to adjust any of this after it's loaded, fwiw. i'd just like to send this drawing data out - then bring it back in and place it back on the stage.

Dynamic Text Loses Format

Nov 5, 2009

I'm having some serious problems with my dynamic text fields. The case is, I format the dynamic text fields to have character spacing and line spacing both equal to 1. Everything seems fine in the SWF when the text is actually typed INTO the dynamic text field, but when I make it fetch text from Actionscript or an external XML file Flash player renders the text as if it had 0 character spacing and 0 line spacing.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Format Some Dynamic Text Fields

Feb 20, 2009

trying to format some dynamic text fields (i.e.) Im trying to specify the font style, the font size and colour, but my code below doesnt seem to be working, no errors being returned.

ActionScript Code:
private var fontStyle:TextFormat;
fontStyle = new TextFormat("Arial",18,0x006666,false,true);

2. Also trying to specify the physical size of the dynamic text field via code, so that long sentences for example can be fully seen without being cut off, see image below.But Im unsure on how to work out the code for doing this tried the regular googling tatic but no results. my dynamic text fields are added to the stage via addChild(); so just physically changing the size of them on the stage .FLA isnt an option as they arent actually on the stage.

Sep 13, 2009

In my project, several textField mclips are created dynamically. These mclips pull their content from an XML from.

The text is formatting partially using TextFormat, but I have been unsuccessful setting the font family.

I think this is because the content is dynamic and called from the XML.

In any case, I then tried to set the font family using mx.styles, but also with no luck:

import mx.styles.CSSStyleDeclaration;
var text_style:Object = new CSSStyleDeclaration();
_global.styles.myStyle = text_style;

Flash To DVD Conversion

Aug 6, 2010

I have been creating animations for children, and recently finished an animated short. I am more of an artist than a techie, and I have not been able to find a clear cut answer as to what is the best way to convert flash to DVD. What file should be converted to achieve the best quality? SWF? MOV file? Is there a way to do it from flash? from Adobe Premier? I tried the AVI output and the quality was terrible.

Is a seperate converter needed? If so, are which give the best quality audio and visually? Here are some of the basic requirements for an animated short entry: DVDs must be compatible with standard set-top DVD players-- do not simply burn a quicktime or AVI file to a disc as data. It is highly preferred that you send us an NTSC, Region 1 or region free (Region 0) DVD when submitting to us, but we will also accept PAL and SECAM formats as well. If you are sending a DVD that has a region code other than 0 or 1, and/or a format other than NTSC, please mark this CLEARLY on the disc AND on the DVDcase.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Drawing And Collision Detection

Nov 27, 2005

Picture a stage filled with multiple instances of a circular movieclip. I want to be able to:

(a) Dynamically draw a path from any one instance X to any other instance Z, but that path cannot cross any instance Y that happens to fall in between instances X and Z (a kind of dynamic drawing with collision detection). If an instance Y sits between X and Z, the path should curve around Y to get from X to Z. I am able to draw a path from X to Z using the drawing API, but I am not sure how to perform a hit test on the path and every other instance because I can't seem to limit the hit area of the hit test to the actual shape of the path (as opposed to its bounding box).

(b) Use a tapered, brush-like stroke for the line style. I have had mixed results with this. I can get it to taper (although not very smoothly), but I have a hard time getting it to twist and wind in a convincing fashion.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Drawing API And XML, And Dynamic Picture Loading?

Jun 4, 2006

I've loaded data from an XML file and put it in an array that contains everything. I'm trying to get the drawing API to draw some shapes dynamically on the stage using this information. They drew fine before when I was using hard-coded test values, but now that it's dynamic it doesn't work, and I think that's because the shapes are trying to draw before they get their values to draw with. Is there any kind of like "on(something)" I can use to ensure everything's fully loaded before I begin drawing? (The XML file's already in an "onLoad" function.)

Secondly, I'm trying to adapt the dynamic XML image gallery Kirupa tutorial found HERE to work when a button is pressed, and have the images load into a container created with the drawing API. Does anybody have any tips on how this could be accomplished? For reference, here's the code I'm using to create the boxes to house the images (each box consists of a nested preloader bar, and the actual container for holding the loaded image):

Code:
//main box
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("pictureBox_mc", tempClip_mc.getNextHighestDepth() + 5);

[code]....
