I can pull multiple external sources al la (source1 + source2 + source3 etc etc) into 1 large text field - is there a way I can format each source individually for spacing, alignment, line space, bold type, larger font size, getURL etc etc?

Or is it a better idea to use a combination of style sheets and the TextFormat class depending on the situation ?

The text is about 1 sentence long but one of the words in the sentence must be bold and a different color. So I've added some HTML tags in the XML node to change the color and format but when I test the file the html tags show in the dynamic text field and the text is NOT formatted.

I have a button (movieclip) that I want to make multiple instances of with different labels.I have a dynamic text field in the movieclip, and a second frame for the rollover state.I also created a dynamic text field for the rollover state and gave it the same instance name as the first one. Shouldn't it display the same text across both states?
View 10 RepliesI am at work right now trying to create a power point for our Christmas party. I know I can do so much more with Flash than I can with any other power point program. Right now, I'm trying to figure out a way to load a list of names into one dynamic text field that changes at certain time intervals. I'm using ActionScript 2 right now b/c I haven't learned 3, yet. Is there a way for Flash to access a word document and load a name say, every minute? I know I could add a different variable name in front of each employee name, like content, content1, content2, but I have a list of like 300 names here. That would take up almost as much time as it would creating a slide for each name in Power Point.

View 1 RepliesI have created an organizational chart for the company I work for displaying all current employees. Each contact is shown as a button that displays a 'popup' window on rollover. All of this works perfectly. What I want is to create an option to click on each button and the individuals email address be added to a dynamic text field at the bottom of the page.
Just to clarify, I am able to have text entered into the text field on each click, however, clicking on the next button removes the previous text. I want each click to create a new entry in a list. For example: "contact1; contact2; contact3;" etc etc. The end result would be for the user to copy all text (email addresses) from the dynamic text box and paste it into their Outlook "To" section.

View 6 RepliesI have a flash that reads all it's content from an XML file, alot of dynamic texts, it's in AS2 and it uses Dynamic text variables to assign the text from XML to the dynamic text.
Now I'm migrating it to AS3, I can't use Dynamic text variables any more, I know I can assign it manually one by one, but I have more than 200 movies to migrate, and it would take a lot of time to do it.I thought of one solution: If I can read all the dynamic texts in the whole movie at once, I can build a nice loop to read them one by one and assign the text from XML to it's respective texts.

View 4 RepliesMy copy of Flash CS3 seems to have a problem with its Autoformatting. Whenever I press the button, it adds a semi-colon to the end of every single line (apart from the beginning of functions). There's no problem with the Edit > Preferences > Auto format menu.

Old dribble: I'm looking for some pointers for a problem with making a table. It may be that I have started off in the wrong direction - anyways, I'm stuck now. The .png displays my objects, and how they are connected/grouped. The highlighted (red) shows the variable containing the points.
The pink with the most points should be displayed higher than the rest, and 2nd most points should ofc be 2nd highest. I have tried taking the red variable out of the pink, but I could not think of a way of moving the red variable based on its own value. I'm going to edit the red variables (as the world cup goes on), and there is no need for cookies and such. And if there is a simpler way of doing the setup, let me know. I'm using SwishMax3 (SM2 up till a few days ago, so I'm more used to as2..)

View 2 RepliesI want a chart that has several separate series running in rows across. They are largely separate charts and should not overlap, but all share the same horizontal datetimeaxis. They don't share the same y-axis, however and that's where I'm getting stuck.I have tried having a linechart series and then a plotchart series, but it will only allow a single <mx:series> per chart without having them inside the same series which as far as I can tell will place the charts on top of each other in the z-axis. I can stack them and have them completely separate charts, but it was proving to be somewhat irritating having them align correctly.
Is there any reasonable way of combining multiple charts into one like this? Basically having rows in a table where each row is a different chart but the columns are consistent. or am I going to be best served just by stacking separate ones? an illustration of what i'm going for is here: http:[url]........

In one of our project we are using flex for front end, blazeds/java in the backend. Its an existing code where services are prewritten. I have to make calls to 3 services in the backend (basically 3 remote objects) and get their result and store the result in an object and show the data of this object in a view.
Now in front end we are using Flex and Parsley Framework. I was thinking of the following approaches.
1) Making commands for each service call and storing the result in a shared object (model) and then displaying this model in the view. In this approach the problem is some services are needed in some other web pages, but they donot need the same model. How should i handle this scenario ? Should i make a asynchronous remote call and fetch the result and then again dispatch and event with the event object storing the result.
2) Making a service call , wait for the result then make another call and wait for the result and then make other call, not sure if this is the right way ?

I have 3 buttons with 3 different instance names (btn1 btn2 btn3)
I have 3 text documents in a folder (1.txt 2.txt 3.txt)
I am able to have 1.txt loaded into content_txt, but here is the problem.
I would like btn2 to load 2.txt and btn3 to load 3.txt into content_txt.
I have looked for an answer for this problem (and found many close answers) but when I try and make my code fit, it just doesn't work. I'm really new to this so any help would be amazing. (or if this has been answered somewhere else and I have missed it..
So I've searched for everything I can possibly think of and I can't find an answer to my particular problem. Although I've found many similar problems that people have with the date formatting from DateFields.I'm using the DateField component along with PHP to create a simple reservation form which sends an email with the information.I was able to change the format of the date that the user selects (from the DateField) WITHIN Flash. Ex: ("29 Aug 2009" to "September 29, 2009") -- which is what I want. However the e-mail that gets sent out is formatted as ---- "Sun Aug 30 00:00:00 GMT-0400 2009".Is it possible that I can remove the time portion and reformat the date in the DateField within Flash or using PHP? I have tried both methods but I keep getting the same results within my e-mails.[code]

I understand this is the correct behavior, but is there a way for "enthusiast" to begin being typed on the second line, and "write" on the third line instead of being bumped during the typing?
Currently I am thinking of doing a search ahead mechanism, so it finds the next word in whole, then makes that the active word to print, temporarily print it, see if it increases the numlines, and if it does insert a line break and continue writing. But it seems fiddly.

View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.
