String :: Adding A Single Letter At A Time To A Text Field?

Dec 26, 2011

Given the following example SWF: Sample Notice how with the words "enthusiast" at the end of the first line and "write" at the end of the second line, that they start to type out on the first line but after a few letters they are bumped.

I understand this is the correct behavior, but is there a way for "enthusiast" to begin being typed on the second line, and "write" on the third line instead of being bumped during the typing?

Currently I am thinking of doing a search ahead mechanism, so it finds the next word in whole, then makes that the active word to print, temporarily print it, see if it increases the numlines, and if it does insert a line break and continue writing. But it seems fiddly.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Use To Recreate A Text Field With Lots Of Letter Mcs?

Apr 25, 2008

I've recently created a Super Text Transition class - its pretty much perfect, except theres on thing that niggles me.

It works by splitting up dynamic textfields into many movie clips, one for each letter - but I cant work out how to position the newly created letter movie clips (each containing a dynamic textfield with only one letter in them) in the right way so it looks exactly like the original text would in the textfield.

Im assuming Im not taking into account certain variables - between textWidth/textHeight, _width and _height of the letter movie clips, leading, letterSpacing blablabla. know the variables to use to recreate a text field with lots of letter mcs?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding Text To A Dynamic Text Field?

Mar 12, 2009

How to add text to a dynamic text field so that a line of text is created, and you can keep on adding to it. I need it to simply add a number to the text line everytime certain buttons are pushed rather than multiplying it like a score in a game and I think I have gone wrong somewhere.

Here's my example: I have multiple buttons on the stage and each button has a different value applied to it (eg: BTN1 has 1, BTN2 has 2, BTN3 has 3 and so on...)

So (as an example) I was wanting to end up with the following in my dynamic text field "1132" if "BTN 1" was clicked 2x and "BTN 3" was clicked 1x and "BTN 2" was clicked 1x......

which equals...... 1132

I'm trying to use the following actionscript but instead of it adding to my line of dynamic text it adds to it like so... 1+1 = 2

BTN1...

on (release) {
_root.equationcount+=1;
}

I'm now wondering if I should be using "count+" at all? My var for the dynamic text field is "_root.equationcount"

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Dynamic Text Field Using Code?

Jun 14, 2009

need a variable, need to add numbers to the variable when conditions are met, need to display the variable.The display part is giving me fits and to put it simply, every tutorial I've looked at is mega lame.1. How do you create a dynamic textbox/field/whatever ENTIRELY out of code. Now I could just click, drag and make one, but then it would be stuck on the screen all the time, no good for startup menu, etc.

2. How do I update the Dynamic text box, now I could use an eventListener ENTER_FRAME, but that seems a tad intensive, their must be a way to only update when new value is passed to it?I've got this code that creates a whole bunch of moving objects in the background, when the level ends I want to remove them all. HOW do I remove this heaping load of objects?

Code:
public function columnMaker(){
for(var i=0; i<550; i+=35){
var testObject:Circler = new Circler();

ActionScript 3.0 :: First Letter Of String To Capital?

Jul 24, 2010

Trying to get the first letter of a String to capital, and the rest of the String must be lower case.  I think I am on the right tracks with the first letter, but not sure how to make everything else forced to be lowercase. Heres a bit of info because I might need to change things.  I load in a flashvar vaiable by
var flashVar3  = root.loaderInfo.parameters.myVar2;

I am not to sure what data type this would be, not sure what flashvars comes as.  I am then doing
var oldStr:String = flashVar3;
var newStr:String = oldStr.charAt(0).toUpperCase() + oldStr.substr(1);
tf3.text=" "+ newStr;

I dont know if the first line is an issue, because i dont know if flashvars comes as a String.  But what I have generally would work on the first letter. Not to sure how I can force the rest of the String to be lowercase though. At this moment in time, I get the error TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.

But I am not sure if this is because my flashvars variable is defined at runtime.  Any advise on getting all of this working would be great.
