I've got an inputfield.OnChange Event Handler.When someone types a letter, i want the letter to become 0, then 1, then 2, and so on until 9 and then i want the letter to be there.And when they click on another letter, same effect happens.so at the end if i typed, "testing", each letter scrolls 0-9 like a roll dial and settles on the letter typed.What i've managed to do is make it work, but if i type at normal speed and not slow, i end up getting something like: t32t43g
View 3 RepliesI have a combo box that I'm trying to enter a letter for to search values for that particular letter and I keep getting this error. Every other combo box works fine when a key is pressed so I'm not sure why this particular combo box registers an error. The complete error looks like this:

I have a dynamic text field with a very simple external text loader.this text field just contains t list of people...

But now a want the first letter of every line in bold or 2 point sizes bigger.I know I can only embed one text style - and bold would be an additional style, right?But it's only a simple list of words - no links - no other extras.
I would like to know if there is a way to get flash only to look at the first letter not just the whole text that has been tipped in. The script i currently use:

My question: How to get the script only to look at the first letter (in this case, if its "a" or not) and then react, because as of now(obious when looking at the script hehe)it will go to frame 2 whenever theres an "a" in the whole word?
I would like to apply letter spacing on a dynamic text box, but it seems once I export the swf, the letter spacing defaults back to 0. How can this be done?

I've attached a file. Can someone please help me move from this point forward? Also, when I do get it to do something, the preview doesn't show the text coming in to sit on the 'car' graphic.

View 1 RepliesI've recently created a Super Text Transition class - its pretty much perfect, except theres on thing that niggles me.
It works by splitting up dynamic textfields into many movie clips, one for each letter - but I cant work out how to position the newly created letter movie clips (each containing a dynamic textfield with only one letter in them) in the right way so it looks exactly like the original text would in the textfield.
Im assuming Im not taking into account certain variables - between textWidth/textHeight, _width and _height of the letter movie clips, leading, letterSpacing blablabla. know the variables to use to recreate a text field with lots of letter mcs?

View 2 RepliesGiven the following example SWF: Sample Notice how with the words "enthusiast" at the end of the first line and "write" at the end of the second line, that they start to type out on the first line but after a few letters they are bumped.
I understand this is the correct behavior, but is there a way for "enthusiast" to begin being typed on the second line, and "write" on the third line instead of being bumped during the typing?
Currently I am thinking of doing a search ahead mechanism, so it finds the next word in whole, then makes that the active word to print, temporarily print it, see if it increases the numlines, and if it does insert a line break and continue writing. But it seems fiddly.

toUpperCase() Method converts whole string touppercase. i want only first letter to uppercase. is it possible

Trying to get the first letter of a String to capital, and the rest of the String must be lower case. I think I am on the right tracks with the first letter, but not sure how to make everything else forced to be lowercase. Heres a bit of info because I might need to change things. I load in a flashvar vaiable by

I am not to sure what data type this would be, not sure what flashvars comes as. I am then doing

I dont know if the first line is an issue, because i dont know if flashvars comes as a String. But what I have generally would work on the first letter. Not to sure how I can force the rest of the String to be lowercase though. At this moment in time, I get the error TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
But I am not sure if this is because my flashvars variable is defined at runtime. Any advise on getting all of this working would be great.

The outline of my text field is very wide, so it is not possible that it is not enough wide for the text length.
Can I get a letter from the alphabet using a numerical value, without assigning an array with the entire alphabet?
I seem to vaguely remember such a function, or meaby I'm imagining things...?

how to letter cycle a word. [URL] I have it working but i am trying to create more than one word in seperate text boxes. I have changed MC names and text boxes, but it seems to only cycle in the first box. I even added dummy letters, which works but i am sure this is not the best way.
