I've got an inputfield.OnChange Event Handler.When someone types a letter, i want the letter to become 0, then 1, then 2, and so on until 9 and then i want the letter to be there.And when they click on another letter, same effect happens.so at the end if i typed, "testing", each letter scrolls 0-9 like a roll dial and settles on the letter typed.What i've managed to do is make it work, but if i type at normal speed and not slow, i end up getting something like: t32t43g
I am trying to apply letter spacing to a dynamic textfieldI set it in the properties panel.I know that this does not work for newly added text.I searched the web and nothing I found works.when I try setNewTextFormat I get the errorWarning Migration issue The method setNewTextFormat is no longer supported. Use the TextField.defaultTextFormat property insteadhow do I use that defaultTextFormat, I tried this
PHP Code: import typewriter; var fmt:TextFormat = outputTextBox.getTextFormat()
Letter spacing doesn't seen to work for dynamic text fields in Flash. I use CS4 on Mac, player version 10.0.2. Does it also depend on the font that's used?
I am trying to create a crossword puzzle made up of text fields, one for each letter. I am pretty much done, but there is one problem I can't get a handle on. I hope someone brilliant can help:
The Problem:The user has already typed a letter into TextFied "XY" and then clicks back into that same TextField (maxChars=1, btw.) to write over that letter (or not). I want the letter to stay until a new letter is typed, and definitely, if the user decides not to provide a new letter.
No problem, works 90 percent of the time. But sometimes --I find oddly enough especially with "S" and "D", but not exclusively-- the letter disappears and stays gone, even when you leave the TextField. The Only way to bring it back is to go back into the Textfield and use the Arrow keys to move the courser to a position before the letter. Very Ugly!
This problem is triggered by clicking into the box as well as by the "stage.focus=" method. I already tried the setSelection- no succes, I also tried making the font smaller, - give it breathing room, so to speak- , also fruitless. Does any one have any ideas how that effect could be avoided with certainty? Here is my code for reference:
I can't seem to control my letter spacing (kerning) in my dynamic text field. I gave the field an instance name of about_txt and I loaded the text from a text document. The text shows up fine but it is all bunched together. Here is my code:
Code: var about_req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("about_txt.txt"); var about_1dr:URLLoader = new URLLoader(about_req); about_1dr.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete); function onComplete(event:Event):void{ about_txt.text = event.target.data; }var fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); fmt.letterSpacing = 10 about_txt.setTextFormat(fmt);
No matter what value I put in for letterSpacing nothing seems to happen.
How can I change the first letter of an input textField so that it is always in upper case ? For instance if my_txt.text= "hello", it would become my_txt.text = "Hello".
I have a combo box that I'm trying to enter a letter for to search values for that particular letter and I keep getting this error. Every other combo box works fine when a key is pressed so I'm not sure why this particular combo box registers an error. The complete error looks like this:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findStringLoop()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7715] at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findString()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7700]
I'm trying to create an RPG-like game text effect where the text string is displayed letter by letter, like a typewriter.Here's my code:
Actionscript Code: function doSomething(number){ var errors:Array = new Array(); errors[0] = "The specified file could not be located."; errors[1] = "Another error"; var
In many RPG games, messages appear in textboxes letter by letter (usually accompanied by a repetitive beeping). I've been trying to simulate this in Flash for a game I've been working on in AS2. When it comes to programming, I'm fairly new and so far, the best I've got is this:
var num:Number = 0; var s:String = "This message will appear."; function onEnterFrame():Void {
When click on a button, I want to show 3 textfields in form of alert which also has ok and cancel buttons.When clicked on ok button, i want to display the text in 3 textfields in tfMain textfieldSorry i might have used wrong terms as i m not an expert in this.
url...Is there a more effective way to consistently show and hide a textfield? or is there a smarter class to use like MovieClip or Sprite?I've tried all 3.This configuration of the two functions shows the message box once, but fails to hide. [code]Alternatively if I don't set the alpha in showMsg it show once, hides once, but fails to show again.It's like alpha can only be changed once and then it fails to change after that:[code]
I have a textfield in a MovieClip that I'm trying to change out from an external class. It appears to return back as empty on the stage, but if I trace what's inside there it gives me the correct value, it just doesn't show up.
My code is this:
((this.parent.parent.getChildByName('bottomBar') as MovieClip).getChildByName('area_txt') as TextField).text = 'test';
So if I trace "((this.parent.parent.getChildByName('bottomBar') as MovieClip).getChildByName('area_txt') as TextField).text" it returns "test" but it doesn't display on the stage, it's just blank.
I have an if/else statement which checks the length of my current title, and then is suppose to change the defaultTextFormat of the title textField and set the text. Currently the title will not show up now, no matter what character length the title is, any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong here?
public function switchTitle(sentText):void { titleString = sentText; trace("---------"+" "); trace("Forumula testing"); trace("titleString = "+titleString); [Code] .....
I have an Array which holds phrases. Now I want to be able to set the var: on my dynamic textfield to the correct phrase in the array. It works when I use tmp_txt.text = phrases['yes'].sText, but I want to set it directly on the textfield. Is this possible?// explanation:// phrases['yes'].sText returns JA which is swedish for YES
Would it be possible to make it so that e.g. a textField is visible outside of the swf boundary in some way? I have random dots in a banner that on MouseOver shows a text in a textfield by the mouse pointer, the textField however is too large due to the amount of text and gets cut off by the boundaries of the swf.

It successfully gives the TextField "txt" focus because when I type, the characters appear in the input textfield, however the familiar blinking text cursor/beam does not appear in the textfield. This makes you think it does not have focus, so you click the textfield to give it focus -- completely defeating the purpose.
I'm using Flash CS5 , Actionscript 3.0 and export fo Flash Plaer 10.
I create a class, myHtmlText.as, that builds a basic TextField. I create an empty file myHtmlText.fla I embedded two fonts inside the myHtmlText.fla: "Ghotam Light" and "Ghotam Book"; I selected all characters for each font and exported for actionscript with the following linkage name: "GhotamBook" and "GhotamLight"
I wish to use the fonts embedded, in the TextField using htmlText, like this:
var tf:TextField = createTextField(10, 10, 400, 22); tf.htmlText = '<p><font face="GhotamBook">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.</font></p>'; //tf.embedFonts = true;
[Code]....
but it does not work; the text is not displayed; If I use .text instead fo .htmlText, the latin text is displayed with a system font.
My dynamic textfield doesen't show special characters (%&+...). I have emped the font(uppercase, lowercase, numerals, PUNCTUATION and basic latin) and I've also tried to render it as html.for example:flash.addVariable("newtext"," Word & word2");AC2myTextfield.text = _root.newtext;then it prints just "word", because flash doesen't understand character & as a text format;locally it worked finemyTextfield.text = "Word & word2;";
I'm working on a project that has a main swf file associated with the document class. It loads XML that provides the text content for the project, then it loads a swf that contains a font in its library, then it loads the first of several content module swfs. When the font swf has inited, I'm registering its library font with Font.registerFont(), and using it in a TextFormat object. After everything is done, I can add code to the document class to create a text field on the stage of the main swf and format it successfully with the TextFormat object, but when I try to do the same thing inside the loaded content module swf, the text doesn't show up there at all.
I have some issue with the [embed] tag. Even if I set the embedFonts property of the textfield to true the text doesn't show up.The thing is that it worked previously and after some changes (not related to fonts) it doesn't. I'd like to understand how the embed process for font works to find the error in my code.
I declare :
[Embed(source = 'asset/font.ttf', fontName="font", mimeType="application/x-font-truetype")] private static var font:String;
to assign the font to the program.Then i call "font" when declaring my textFormat. Is the "fontName" property the link with the textformat ?I work with flashdevelop and the flex_sdk_4.0.0.14159 (the big adobe one, with air (~140mo))
I want to display a uncommon layout into a HTML Textfield, using AS3/Flash CS4. This is what I need to create, is it possible? [URL]... I have tried some CSS styles, but I didn't found any way to align a span to the left. TLF is out of my range, the related project is closed to CS4, but if it is the only way, someone tell me!
I use AS3 which I keep separate from my fla project.
I have a contact page and the textfield where you type your message is an Input textfield with multiline and textwrap enabled. The height of my textfield allows for 5 lines of text, then you will have to start scrolling after that.
I use a my own scroll bar nested in a movieclip with instance name "txtScroller" The Input textfield instance name is "messageText"
What I want to do: I want to hide the "txtScroller" mc and show it when the user has typed more than 5 lines of text (using enter to break to a new line, etc).
Now for my problem: The first part of the code works, the "txtScroller" mc is hidden, and I have even tested it with the trace function (see code bellow).
I can for the life of me NOT get the the second part to work, the part where i want to show "txtScroller" mc again. I've treid with the trace function as well but it shows nothing in the 'output' pannel (see code bellow).
The Code: This is all I have with regards to hiding or showing the "txtScroller" mc.
Code: if (messageText.numLines <= 5) { trace("less"); txtScroller.visible = false;
