ActionScript 2.0 :: Restricting To Upper Case Text

May 24, 2005

I've got a few text boxes address1, address2 etc which I've restricted using
address1.restrict = "A-Z 0-9";

All seems well if you input your address manually, but also there is an automatic feature on the web catalogue I'm working on, where you can enter your postcode and the relavent addresses will be generated in a scrollable list box. You can select an entry from this list box and click OK to confirm this is your address, which will then conveniently fill in all your address1, address2 etc input text fields.

But, when the addresses are generated in the list box they are not displayed in caps for example 92 Green Lane, Moston, Manchester. Like this... and so when you confirm your address each text box is filled in the same case, NOT in Uppercase like I've specified. Anyway to correct this once it passes the address variables into the text fields?

myText.toUpperCase();

ActionScript 2.0 :: Textfield:OnChange - Random Letter Settles On Entered Letter ?

Jan 25, 2007

I've got an inputfield.OnChange Event Handler.When someone types a letter, i want the letter to become 0, then 1, then 2, and so on until 9 and then i want the letter to be there.And when they click on another letter, same effect happens.so at the end if i typed, "testing", each letter scrolls 0-9 like a roll dial and settles on the letter typed.What i've managed to do is make it work, but if i type at normal speed and not slow, i end up getting something like: t32t43g

The outline of my text field is very wide, so it is not possible that it is not enough wide for the text length.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Input Textfield With 1 Letter, Dissapears?

Jul 3, 2009

I am trying to create a crossword puzzle made up of text fields, one for each letter. I am pretty much done, but there is one problem I can't get a handle on. I hope someone brilliant can help:

The Problem:The user has already typed a letter into TextFied "XY" and then clicks back into that same TextField (maxChars=1, btw.) to write over that letter (or not). I want the letter to stay until a new letter is typed, and definitely, if the user decides not to provide a new letter.

No problem, works 90 percent of the time. But sometimes --I find oddly enough especially with "S" and "D", but not exclusively-- the letter disappears and stays gone, even when you leave the TextField. The Only way to bring it back is to go back into the Textfield and use the Arrow keys to move the courser to a position before the letter. Very Ugly!

This problem is triggered by clicking into the box as well as by the "stage.focus=" method. I already tried the setSelection- no succes, I also tried making the font smaller, - give it breathing room, so to speak- , also fruitless. Does any one have any ideas how that effect could be avoided with certainty? Here is my code for reference:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Controlling Letter Spacing Dynamic TextField?

Dec 31, 2009

I can't seem to control my letter spacing (kerning) in my dynamic text field. I gave the field an instance name of about_txt and I loaded the text from a text document. The text shows up fine but it is all bunched together. Here is my code:

Code:
var about_req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("about_txt.txt");
var about_1dr:URLLoader = new URLLoader(about_req);
about_1dr.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete);
function
onComplete(event:Event):void{
about_txt.text = event.target.data;
}var fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
fmt.letterSpacing = 10
about_txt.setTextFormat(fmt);

No matter what value I put in for letterSpacing nothing seems to happen.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scroll TextFIeld Objects - Change The TextField.y Value

Mar 17, 2009

I've got a flash document using AS3. It dynamically reads data from an XML file, and creates a bunch of single line textFields. Could be like this:

<XMLdata>
<Line>this is line 1</Line>
<Line>this is line 2</Line>
<Line>this is line 3</Line>
</XMLdata>

So, for each node, it would create a new TextField, and change the textField.y value so that they are "stacked" on top of each other. All this if fine, except that if you hae so many "lines" (or textfields) that the "stack" is taller than the Flash Document size. What I would like to do is have a scroll bar or something so you can scroll the stack of TextFields. Doesnt' even need to be a scroll bar. Maybe an arrow button at the bottom, and when you click on it, it scrolls down. One for up too.

AS3 :: C - Implementation Of Upper Power Of Two Algorithm

Mar 1, 2011

I have been trying to implement the Round Up Power Of 2 algorithm outlined in the following link in AS3.

[Code]...

The algorithm works great for most of the values I've tested. It is mentioned that this will return 0 when given an input value of 0 which is technically incorrect but I'm ok with that output. What I'm not ok with is when given an input of 1 I get and output of 1. I'm thinking that this must be a caveat of AS3 and its wonky uint implementation but I can't seem to figure it out. I have also tried using the >>> logical shift operator to the same result. My C is a little rusty, but I'm not sure how this would even return 2 in C. Can someone explain to me whats going wrong here? I assume if an input of 1 was a special case it would have been mentioned in the above link.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Change Alpha In A Textfield?

Jan 20, 2012

From what I understand you can change the alpha value of a textfield to be fully transparent.  I would like to have chat output that fades after a while.  I was wondering if there was a way to change just a portion of the string inside of a text field to transparent.  The textColor does not have an alpha value.  I could just use multiple text fields but I would like to avoid doing that if possible for efficiency sake.
