I have a contact page and the textfield where you type your message is an Input textfield with multiline and textwrap enabled. The height of my textfield allows for 5 lines of text, then you will have to start scrolling after that.
I use a my own scroll bar nested in a movieclip with instance name "txtScroller"
The Input textfield instance name is "messageText"
What I want to do: I want to hide the "txtScroller" mc and show it when the user has typed more than 5 lines of text (using enter to break to a new line, etc).
Now for my problem: The first part of the code works, the "txtScroller" mc is hidden, and I have even tested it with the trace function (see code bellow).
I can for the life of me NOT get the the second part to work, the part where i want to show "txtScroller" mc again. I've treid with the trace function as well but it shows nothing in the 'output' pannel (see code bellow).

It's probably not working because AS3 can't identify the "ID_input" input field. I have the two input fields on the stage with the instance names ID_input and Password_input.

View 4 RepliesI have code for the user to enter their name in a text box. Once the submit button is clicked I want the name entered to be dispatched with an event as well as displayed on the stage. The reason I want the text field input name to be dispatched is because the text box to enter your name is on the main menu which is loaded and unloaded in order to play through various games.Below is the code to enter your name into the text box.

It successfully gives the TextField "txt" focus because when I type, the characters appear in the input textfield, however the familiar blinking text cursor/beam does not appear in the textfield. This makes you think it does not have focus, so you click the textfield to give it focus -- completely defeating the purpose.
i have an input textfield and when i press a button on the stage, i need it to indent the paragraph were the cursor is located. whether its selected text or not.i've been trying to figure this one out for almost a week now. and i can't seem to find what i need. i'm sure theres an obvious solution that i'm overlooking

I have recently made the transition from AS2 to AS3 and having worked out how to input text to be shown in another frame on the timeline, I would now like to input text in one swf file to be shown in a different swf file. I have searched the web for answers but cannot find what I am looking for.
View 4 RepliesRight now I'm us Flash CS4 and creating a flash program in AS3. After a certain frame the dynamic text boxes that I have set up refuse to display text when required. I've gone over every line of code and every possible set up and I can't understand why it will not work. I've made sure all the dynamic text boxes have the instance names properly in place naming them all "talkBox". I've made sure all the code is written properly talkBox.text = "Insert Text Here!" There should be absolutely no reason in the world why the dynamic text boxes shouldn't be working.
View 1 RepliesI try to get input from a textfield of type INPUT and save its numerical value on a couple of variables, but when i enter for example 1 or any digit i get Nan in the trace debug, after i put another digit i get the first after i put another one i get the first two and so on so forth. I want the form with its mc to make the main movie stop from playing while peaple are filling up the form.... I tried using 2 methods both with no luck....1st method : I've put the rollover action on the whole mc - but then I can't select the textfiled to actully fill them up...2nd method: I've put the rollover action on every little bit of the mc ( input textfileds, send button, background) - but then when I move from one textfiled to another it sometimes plays the movie again - althogh I didn't leave the mc area yet....here is the code sample:

But i want to display the description if one of the other box value is greater than 1500, actaully there are two field one field has value for Security deposit amount and second is drop down security deposit type in this if the value is > 1500 the description should show.
Field One (Input box)
Deposit amount (entering values in the box)
Field two (dropdown)
Deposit Type (Bank Draft/ Money order/Personal check)

I'm working on a flash file that is a video clip and beneath the video, there's an input text field where a user can get the code to embed the video in their page (youtube code). The problem is that when I have plain text in the text field it works, but when I try to use html code, I get an actionscript error and it doesn't show up. The default value text displays, but when you click into them to type nothing appears.I've tried embedding fonts, making sure I use th Font class, even setting them to _sans and system font, but nothing. I'm having a weird problem with AS3/CS5: I have a textfield, and I'm playing around with focusing on it at various points. At one point,I set focus to the textfield (which only accepts 1 character), then add an Event.CHANGE listener to it. This works fine, except when I type the letter 'a' (or 'A'). Nothing happens until I click on the text field and type 'a.' I don't have to do the second click with any other character, and before I do the second click, the cursor is blinking in the box. Not sure what to do...

I have a wierd problem with input textfield losing its formatting.The format of the textfield (font, size, align..) is defined inside the .fla.When first added to stage, the textfield has these properties:

first off I guess I should say that I'm pretty much a beginner to flash Anyways, what I'm trying to do is make it so when the user inputs something into the textfield, depending on what they said specifically, it takes them to a certain scene. So far I am able to communicate with just text between a few people, but they are not able to perform other actions such as the movement of their mouth when they are speaking which is what I would like also.
