ActionScript 1/2 :: Make A Letter Key (A-Z) To Used To Pause?
Feb 10, 2011
im having trouble trying to figure out how to make a letter key (A-Z) to used to pause, use abilities, etc etc.if (Key.isDown(Key.("A")) { ^ is the code i have at the moment and i get errors.
I've got an inputfield.OnChange Event Handler.When someone types a letter, i want the letter to become 0, then 1, then 2, and so on until 9 and then i want the letter to be there.And when they click on another letter, same effect happens.so at the end if i typed, "testing", each letter scrolls 0-9 like a roll dial and settles on the letter typed.What i've managed to do is make it work, but if i type at normal speed and not slow, i end up getting something like: t32t43g
I have a combo box that I'm trying to enter a letter for to search values for that particular letter and I keep getting this error. Every other combo box works fine when a key is pressed so I'm not sure why this particular combo box registers an error. The complete error looks like this:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findStringLoop()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7715] at mx.controls.listClasses::ListBase/findString()[C:autobuild3.2.0frameworksprojectsframeworks rcmxcontrolslistClassesListBase.as:7700]
im tryin to develop a game, and i wanna make a flash and in that i wanna make my letter to have typwriter kinda animation. Like you know in RPG when NPC are talking the letter are going one by one.and also how do you make it so that when any button are pressed then its going to go to the next thing.
I'm trying to create an RPG-like game text effect where the text string is displayed letter by letter, like a typewriter.Here's my code:
Actionscript Code: function doSomething(number){ var errors:Array = new Array(); errors[0] = "The specified file could not be located."; errors[1] = "Another error"; var
In many RPG games, messages appear in textboxes letter by letter (usually accompanied by a repetitive beeping). I've been trying to simulate this in Flash for a game I've been working on in AS2. When it comes to programming, I'm fairly new and so far, the best I've got is this:
var num:Number = 0; var s:String = "This message will appear."; function onEnterFrame():Void {
I have some trouble with the conversion applied by BlazeDS to the name of the properties when this name begins with a lower-case letter followed by a capital letter. I have an ActionScript class similar to this:
I need a bunch of letters to fall from the top of the stage and fall into place to form words at the bottom of the stage. Would you do this in actionscript or make each letter a symbol and do it frame by frame?
I'm making a website for music and video and need to find out how i go about making a pause button for audio,. it has to pause the sound being played and then restart the sound from the point it was paused
I have a flash video that is set to autoplay when the page loads. We've just implemented thickbox/lightbox system on it now so when you click on the video it enlarges into that new frame. Problem is, when that's done the video/audio is still playing while the video in the thichbox is playing too. know a code that would trigger the video to pause when clicked anywhere on the video screen? Right now the videos being tested at this link -[URL]I don't currently have the video linked up to lightbox, just a link above the video to expand.With FLVPlayback,this is my current code (it's currently coded and set up so the video autoplay starts at 52 seconds)...

I want to see a command (or function) That pauses the script for a X amount of time and then after the time passes, the script will continue normallyHere's what I'm talking about:
I'm creating a game with movie clips that are generated using getnexthighestdepth, and have a pause menu too. However, as the movie clips are generated after the pause menu, they appear above it, partially obscuring it. Is there a way to make the pause menu permanently on top?
I am trying to find out how to pause or stop an image in a basic flash movie clip, after it has entered from one side and before it exits the other side.I have been trying to work it out myself for three days but no joy. I am practicing for a test with a training agency which gave me a disk to use but nowhere in it does it say how this is done. I am also having a lot of difficulty making stop start buttons work with this movie clip. I am using a trial cs5.5 version of Flash which expires in 7 days so i need to know this soon. I am up to speed on most of the features, its just this one thing that has me stumped. A lot of the tutorials or examples i have found on the net are very long winded and hard to follow exactly.
i'm trying to make a button that when held will go to the previous frame, pause for 0.042 (24fps)seconds and then loop again until the mouse is releasedso something like thisI think know the first bit of code from much forum trawling, but have been unable to find anything further.I am an almost complete newb to programming, having online done a tiny amount of vb several years ago,just wonderingtranslate this following script into as3, and also point out if it won't work.
stop(); Rewind.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, RewindEvent); function RewindEvent(event:MouseEvent):void
I am making a simple radio interface and i have 6 preset buttons which i want to have play the specific preset button's song which is in the library and stop/pause the current song when any preset button is pressed.
i tried using the attachSound function, with associated identifiers but not sure if that is the right way to go. It plays the songs, but doesnt stop them.[code]...
I have a Flash file that has two music tracks. The player I built works well so far except for this, I am trying to make a Pause/Play button the works on either track. Right now it only works on one. With my limited knowledge of AS3 I tried different solutions but none worked.
Here is the SWF file; [URL]
You will see that the Pause/Play button only works on Kiss My Dogg which is track 1.
Here is the FLA file; [URL]
Below is some of the Script I wrote. The pause/play is the part I cant figure out.
//function to load different tracks function loadMusic(evt:MouseEvent):void{ //stop whatever is playing SoundMixer.stopAll();
I am trying to create a pause button that will pause everything on the screen including movieclips/audio. Right now I can't figure out how to pause the movieclips.
I have some banners I am doing right now and have a pause timer question. I am fairly green at coding. In my first frame I have this:
[Code]...
I want it to pause each time in the last frame for 8 seconds and loop only 3x. Is there a better way to write this? I know all my code should be in the first frame but I still suck.
I am using Macromedia Flash Pro 8. I have a flash intro that has words (phrases) which slide in. I would like to add a 7 second pause between each phrase to give people time to read them (no buttons). Could someone tell me the script(s) to use with all functions, etc. included - as I am so new to all this. I have been looking for weeks & tried many codes but none seem to work - or I don't know exactly where to place them - or both
I'm trying to make a simple flash mp3 player with a play/pause toggle button called toggle_btn. The button is actually a MovieClip with two buttons inside it: play_btn and pause_btn, which live in different places on the MovieClip's timeline. That all works fine, and when I press the play/pause button for the first time, my music plays as expected.
However, when I press it again to pause, it keeps right on playing. If I push it again, the button gets all glitchy, and doesn't go into its rollover state when it should nor toggle when clicked.
Here's my ActionScript:
Code: // load the playlist var getFile:URLLoader = new URLLoader(new URLRequest('songs.xml')); var numSongs:int = 0; // number of songs in playlist -- we'll set this later
I have a timeline of 30 frames, each it's own mc (page01_mc, etc.). In each mc I show a picture or two and hear narration.I have a first, prev and next nav on the main timeline. I need to add a play/pause btn that will pause both pictures and sound. I assume I do that in each mc, but do not know where to find the code.Here is what is in each mc now:
var mySound:Sound = new Sound(); mySound.load(new URLRequest("english/Intro01.mp3")); mySound.play()
I was wondering if anyone has any input on my question.I've been trying to figure out for a few hours now how to make words or sentences animate in and "pause" for a few seconds (for the user to read) and then continue to play. I know I can tween it, but I wanted to do it via actionscript. I got it to animate in and come out but i couldn't figure out how to have it hold for a few sec. I will have more than one sentence animate in and out.
As you see now there is the right key that is attached to the code but I'm making a 2 player game and I want one of the players to use the letters WASD. Just putting the letter D in there dosen't work.

I am currently making a game, similar to StreetFighter,where enemies will come on from the side and you fight them. Now i have the character movement and attacks fully scripted, and have made an enemy, and i make it move towards the character using:
Now this works quite well and the enemy stops when it hits the character, but the problem is, it wont complete a full attack, instead it plays a few frames of the attack MC. Now i have every attack in a different MC (Frames 2-5) inside the Enemy MC. How can i make the enemy pause when it reaches the character, then choose an attack to use? From there i'll be on my way and can script the hittest and so forth.
