All was going well... but then I changed my code from value1 = "password" to value1 = password.text; and the php instead of coming back with the user's password, comes back undefined. WHY WHY WHy, does it except it when I say value1 = "password" and not with the value1 = password.text; (and 'password' is the instance name of the input text... (not using flash vars)

I want to include some practice questions where students are asked to answer a quesion by typing numerical values in the box. Then when they hit "enter" I want it to take them to a new question if they get the right answer, or a screen that says "try again" if they get it wrong. Here's the script that I used. Given the following example SWF: Sample Notice how with the words "enthusiast" at the end of the first line and "write" at the end of the second line, that they start to type out on the first line but after a few letters they are bumped.
I understand this is the correct behavior, but is there a way for "enthusiast" to begin being typed on the second line, and "write" on the third line instead of being bumped during the typing?
Currently I am thinking of doing a search ahead mechanism, so it finds the next word in whole, then makes that the active word to print, temporarily print it, see if it increases the numlines, and if it does insert a line break and continue writing. But it seems fiddly.

I'm trying to just hit the enter key instead of having to click the submit button. I've been trying to get it working for the past couple of hours but haven't had any luck. My best guess is that the enter key isn't valid because it's an input box and may be confused with trying to create a new line (even though my input box is set to single line and not multiline). If so, is there any other way to do this?
i am working on a project and i need some so called landing pages. it works like this: <embed src="index.swf?wmode=transparent&index=client" ... i can submit a var to an embeded swf per parameter. does it also work per text in the url-field? example: [URL] client is the var i want to submit to the swf as a parameter.

I have three text fields sitting right next to each other, to create a row. Some times the text is longer than the width of the text field, I don't want to widen the the text field to make it fit, I just want to fade the last 20 - 50 pixels of the text out.
Is this possible to do without using an object above it, such as a gradient?
i am given a rectangle of some height and width, i want to fill this rectangle with some dummy single line text. the height and width of text should be close to that of given rectangle. basically, i want the text to full occupy a given rectangular area.
eg: if rectangle height and width is 100 and 300 respectively, then the single line text height and width should be close to 100 and 300 respectively,
I have an HTML form that I want to upload to MySQL with PHP. That part's easy, but the thing is I want the submit button to be a Flash object. Somehow I need the Flash button to submit the form, but I think I can figure that out. The tricky part is that I need it to set another PHP variable before submitting the form. The variable will be determined by a bunch of stuff, but I can code that in actionscript later. I just need to figure out how to pass the variable back to the webpage. A $_POST variable would probably be fine.
edit: What if the flash object returned some javascript and set a variable that way? making it submit the form as well while still catching a variable?
I want to take a static text field, convert it into a button, and use it as a button. I need it static, because I changed orientation, and I do not know how to do that otherwise. The problem is, even though I converted it to a Button symbol, it does not work when I test the movie. It works fine with "Enable simple buttons", but when I test it, the button is not there, no change in mouse cursor, no reaction at all.So this is what I did:

To the button itself and the AS: The button will be a scroll-button for a text field, with different scroll speeds on rollover and press, but nothing else. The code for that I have (I think). It's something like (and please excuse my incorrect syntax here, but I'm typing from memory; still, I use the Script-Assistant and my syntax is apparently correct; it's also working with other buttons):

I'm at the end of my wits. The only difference I can tell from other (working) buttons I did the same way, is that the scrollBt does not do anything except scrolling, while all of the others have frame actions (gotoAndplay etc.) associated with them.

I am trying to create a hyperlink in my text field that when clicked will take you a website target a _blank page.I have created a text field and input the website through xml - src, I put the text field inside a movieclip - link, i created a sprite and put that in the movieclip. However anytime that I try to click it, no matter the configuration I get one of two errors: Error #1069: Property loader not found on flash.text.TextField and there is no default value.^^Is the most common The other one is I believe Error #1010 Can not target and object of null reference?? Something along those lines.

I don't know why but if I create a text field on the stage ( no as ), flash creates a white background in it... I have changed all parameters but the bg field remains the same...
Anyone knows how can I set the default transparent bg for the text?
I created a somewhat custom Spark button by doing the File > New > MXML skin and basing it on spark.components.button. The problem is that I need to add an extra text field to the button component and dynamically change that text...but of course, the property isn't recognized on a Spark Button.
Is there a simple way to add this field to my custom button skin & its property so it can be addressed? If not, is there a simple way to take what I've done and just extend the Spark Button? I can't seem to find any examples that show how to do it without writing it all up in ActionScript.
when it comes to flash but managed to learn enough this past week to get a simple website up (getting laid off so scrambling to get portfolio online!). I have an upload test at lisedupuis.net. In my work section I have a bunch of thumbnails (buttons) for all of the video. Basically, I want to add a text field under the video player which will contain a movie clip name. I want to set it up so that when you mouse over the thumbnails the text changes to the correct movie clip name. I thought maybe creating an event listener might work but can't seem to figure out how to write it. Been looking online and not finding exactly what I need and I am in a huge rush.

I have a dynamic text box that acquires text from a txt file.
Sometimes the text is greater than the text field so I want to be able to show a page up and page down button. However I do not want these displayed if the text does not exceed the field.
Currently the buttons are always displayed.
I understand how to get the text field info, I do not understand the "easy" bit of only loading the buttons if the text field size is exceeded.
I am creating a form, and I would like to have a highlight around the input text box when the users is focused on that textfield.
i have a highlight movieclip(just a rectangle outline that is a movieclip).
How would i go about placing the highlight mc around the text box? would i use focus_In eventListeners? and call a function that can outline a box that is the input text background?

I've been looking everywhere and I can't figure this out. I want an empty text entry box, where you type in a word and hit enter. When you hit enter, it adds this word to an array. The array shouldn't have a limit of the number of words allowed.
