All was going well... but then I changed my code from value1 = "password" to value1 = password.text; and the php instead of coming back with the user's password, comes back undefined. WHY WHY WHy, does it except it when I say value1 = "password" and not with the value1 = password.text; (and 'password' is the instance name of the input text... (not using flash vars)

I feel like an idiot even asking, because I've seen the examples and lengthy tutorials.
All I want to do, is change the color of a dynamic text field when you press a button. But I want the name of the field to be a variable.
Now, this is what's there:
1. the variable "_root.expinttype1" is equal to "branch" and is set elsewhere.
1a. There is an existing dynamic field called "branch" on screen.
2. On the button release I set the format:

Why? I set a dummy variable txt = _root.expinttype1; and even threw it into a text field to verify the data, and it shows "branch", so why doesn't this work?

When the user clicks 'CANCEL' button, I want the error message tooltips if present to be cleared off from the screen. The message tool tips remains on the screen even if the CANCEL button is clicked.
I have an HTML form that I want to upload to MySQL with PHP. That part's easy, but the thing is I want the submit button to be a Flash object. Somehow I need the Flash button to submit the form, but I think I can figure that out. The tricky part is that I need it to set another PHP variable before submitting the form. The variable will be determined by a bunch of stuff, but I can code that in actionscript later. I just need to figure out how to pass the variable back to the webpage. A $_POST variable would probably be fine.
edit: What if the flash object returned some javascript and set a variable that way? making it submit the form as well while still catching a variable?
How can i make it so a when you press a button it starts a countdown but every other press dosent reset it?
View 14 RepliesI'm running FMS 4 Dev on my win XP SP3 machine, also running flash cs5 professional on same machine. I get the server admin screen to come up and it says it's running. I'm using a tut book on FMS and trying to run the first script in the book. It's long but I'll add the script at the bottom so you can see what i'm doing. In the server app folder I placed another folder called vid2 with nothing in it just like the book told me to do. I wrote the script line for line out of the book. When I test my movie it lays out my video window and buttons. It diplays my ugly mug on the screen. when I press the record button it does nothing. when i press the stop button the output window shows me an error of "#1009 can't access properties or methods of a null object". I assume that this is telling me I do not have a net connection.
when I types in the example it had an IP address in the code.How do I know the correct IP addy to my dev server? If I'm doing development and testing on the same machine do I even need to know this? 2) How will what I'm doing now differ from leasing space from an FMS provider?

I'm creating a dashboard with a lot of buttons that will display pieces of text from an XML file. The trouble is, I can't figure out how to clear the text from a field once it is displayed. If I push another button, the new data will replace the old data, but if the new button is display a smaller data set, it will only replace some of the former data set and the rest stays displayed. Does that make sense? I found some code that clears the text fields, but I don't know where to put it:

I tried to create a function for detecting the last button click (and getting the label of that button to use inside the function), but I decided to make the functions much simpler to at least get the desired effect.
I am just retruning to flash from cs2 and its much, much harder.I want to create one simple mute button. Does anyone havea link to how I can do this from start to end in cs4? Everything I've found ends with me getting the error message: "Current selection cannot have actions applied to it" while tutorial carries on and neeer address this as a possibility.

View 1 RepliesI've created some error handling for external images loaded via a path in XML. Within the Flash preview it's fine and shows the full error message (and most importantly, the URL that isn't loading).
But in the browser, even locally, it doesn't out put this message!

#1006: value is not a function. at MethodInfo-43() I don't know what the problem is, or where could it be, here is the problem code, but first a brief description: Every 3 seconds 3 enemies will be created with a random position, the enemies can't be appearing on top of the other so I check if they collide with any previously added enemies, if they do I assign other random coordinates and check again until there is no collision (I'm using the collision detection kit CDK for the collisions[URL]..the first 3 enemies appear correctly but afterwards the error appears and the next time the program enters the generation part the enemies begin appearing in ridiculous numbers.

i am currently trying to learn ZendAMF, but i have a hard time troubleshooting which makes learning it quite hard. Is there a way to make the PHP file throw an exception that gets traced as an error message in AS3 (not Flex), the only error i seem to be able to get is "Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetConnection.Call.Failed", but it tells me jack ****.
i have gotten ZendAMF working, i just want to know how i can make error handling better, so that as an example can use PHP to tell flash that no results were found, or that the typed text was invalid. Is it better to use AS3 to check if the field was filled properly?

I'm creating a flash basketball bracket that I need to submit the picks to a MSSQL database on an ASP.NET server. Every time, I get the #2032 Stream Error, which usually means the URL doesn't exist (which it does). The thing that chaps my behind is that if I trace the url and the variables, then paste that into a browser window, the database updates perfectly, just as I want it to. My code is below. Of course, the tournament is ten days away and I've been stuck here for a week, so if anyone can see what the heck is going wrong, please let me know.
