Now is my question:
How can I write this code better, so that flash can handle it? Do I make an array of the results?
Creating a high score table in flash, using external file handling, can be achieved using server-side scripts, such as PHP. However, as this is not allowed for my game (school project), I need a way to write a few variables directly to a text file and read it back again. Is this possible? I am using AS 2.0. Any other ways in which a high score table, which is portable and can be saved and updated
I am writing a Flash object which will be an on-line quiz. I got most of it working ok, but it reads the questions sequentially from an xml file. I want it to be random. Each record in the xml file has an 'ID' attribute. This is my code that currently reads the questions in sequential order:
var question = new XML();question.ignoreWhite=true;question.load("Questions.xml"); question.onLoad=function(){ question_txt=this.firstChild.childNodes[_root.record].attributes.ques tion; answer1_txt=this.firstChild.childNodes[_root.record].attributes.answe r1;
[Code]...
There are 300 questions in the xml file. I want to assign a variable with a random number, then look in the xml file for the question which has the ID attribute matching the random number. How do I achieve this?
Number of rows & cols of table is taken from user in order to create table in one titlewindow. What to do to keep table inside the TitleWindow.
I know that it's better practice to read data from a XML file, but:Given the circumstance that the data is present in the following format and it's not possible to convert from txt to xml.[code]The data is formatted in 4 columns divided by tabs.Is there a way to read this data into an AC3 Array?
In my asp.net application,I want to show the .ppt file using the slide show manner.
That's to say,user can upload .ppt file to my server side,then other people can browser these ppts in the page ..
Since I have googled "embed powerpoint in web page" ,it seems that there is not a good idea to implement this and support the cross browser,so I thought the flash.
This is a slide show using the flash: [URL]
What I want is show the contents of the .ppt in this manner(it would be better if it support the animations in the ppt)?
How to make a table in Flash and enable the column headers on the table to sort column on click?I have seen some tutorials with mySQL but I'd like to start with something basic. Is a sortable table possible using just Flash and AS 2.0?
I am having a problem getting Flash to work with PHP as I need Flash to read and write to a text file on a server to store simple name/score data for a games hi score table. I can read from the text file into Flash easily enough but also need to write to the file when a new high score is reached, so I need to use PHP to do that. I can send the data from flash to the php file via POST but so far it is not working. The PHP file is confirmed as working as I added an echo to the file which displayed a message so I could check that the server was running PHP - the files were also uploaded to a remote server so I could test them properly. Flash code is as follows:
//php filewriter var myLV = new LoadVars(); function sendData() { //sets up variable 'hsdata' to send to php myLV.hsdata = myText; myLV.send("hiscores.php"); }
I believe this sends the variable 'myText' to the php file as a variable called 'hsdata' which I want the php file to write into a text file. The mytext variable is just a long string that has all the scores and names in the hiscore. OK, XML would be better way of doing this but for speed I just want to get basic functionality working, so storing a simple text sting is adequate for now. The PHP code that reads the Flash 'hsdata' variable and writes it to the text file 'scores.txt' follows:
I'm working on a mini-site in Flash CS3 AS2. I have an opening page with some info on it and I'm required to have a 'don't show this again' checkbox there. So far I have placed a checkbox from the components window onto the stage and have been able to change the default text 'checkbox' to 'don't show it again' in the component inspector's parameters but that's about all I've done. I can imagine that I'd need to convert the checkbox into a movie clip and create 2 labels on the timeline as 'checked' and 'unchecked'?
Can somebody explain shortly how to create a Flash Slide-Show in a HTML Document? Let's say I have 5 images with logo and want that they change every 10 seconds. Do I need to work with JavaScript?
I'm trying to make a ticker that should show my message as a "typewriter". But it behaves very strange... see attached swf. I have never worked with Flash/actionscript before, so it might be something very simple
This is my code: var n:Number=0; var txt:String = "testing ticker"; var len:Number = txt.length; function tick(){ if(n<len){ txt_bussgods.appendText(txt.charAt(n)); n++; setTimeout(tick, 1000); }else{ stop(); }}tick();
One thing that's really frustrating me about Flash is that the info panel doesn't display real-time width or height values.So if I'm drawing a rectangle, I can't just draw it out as do in Photoshop to say 400 X 200. I'll need to set this manually after I draw a small box.
I'm new on FMS, but I've managed to create a web page with an embedded player that shows a live stream that I capture with a webcam and FMS. What I need is to be able to pause the live stream from the web page player and to play it again from the point I've paused it. I thought to stream a live video and save it to a file on the server as well, but I don't know how to tell the player to start from the end of the file rather than the begining of it. The client should connect to the page and see the live stream, but he can pause it and continue watching it later from that point, but if a different client connects, he should see the live stream.
I have an array collection of strings and integers (which I have displayed in a data grid) and I am wondering if it is possible to export the array collection into an html table? or even a text file for the user to download
I found some pages that had an export to .xls files but I want to stray away from that for now.
I'm trying to list in flash, several records that come from my database. I'm not talking about a datagrid or anything to fancy. I just want to list the values inside text boxes. (to allow editing). I already have fetch an array of records that come from the database, here:
[Code]...
My question is: How can I display several records, instead of only 1? Should I change the call to, instead of 1, uses a variable? But where would that variable comme from? Then I should loop again the addChild method for each child of form2 that needs to have different records on each of them?
I have a created a flash searchable database with xml,following this tutorial url...It seem to be work great but my the xml file seems to be too large so when certain words are search I get a script error and eventually freezing up, my question is Is there a way to tell flash to load the 10 or 20 records at a time? By loading sections of the xml one at a time will this stop the script error?
I am trying to create some charts in Flex/FlashBuilder 4.5The issue I have it that the information I wish to display is the number of events within an area. I am using HTTP service to access a rails controller which is returning an XML list of the events.I need to figure out how to chart the number of events, eg number of records returned. There is no numeric value within chart, as there would be if I was charting sales or prices for example.
I have a Wowza Media Server 2 running on Amazon EC2 and I've noticed from time to time a flv is recorded from a webcam using Flash that has audio but no video. It works fine most of the time but from time to time this error occurs
I load in 8 XML records at random - the actual xml file contains about 37 + but the method i am using at the moment doesnt semm to be that random. It was done this way so i dont pull in the same record twice as i do not want duplicate entries
Code: for (a = 0; a < randNo; a++) { var num:Number = xmlAd.firstChild.childNodes.length;
I have the following on my php service file : Code: Select all function updateRecords($id,$name,$age){ $query = mysql_query("UPDATE data SET name= '$name', age= '$age' WHERE id = '$id'");

I have results from my mysql coming to flash mx and I am trying to format it in rows like: VENUENAME ADDRESS PHONENUMBER And I want about 10 records to show in flash at a time....
Here is the actionscript and the PHP code: // Create another LoadVars instance to receive the server's reply replyData = new LoadVars(); // Specify a function to call when this new instance receives the reply. replyData.onLoad = handleReply; // Submit the order data [Code] .....
I never worked with movie files before and I'm having problems to play a f4v file from a html file.
Inside flash, when I do a ctrl+enter, the video shows and plays just fine.
When building the .html file to play it all, only my presentation and movie skin will show up but the movie won't load.
Even if I do a file > publish the video won't show up or play. Everything I have on timeline is working just fine (and again, even the videoskin is showing up).
Now, do I have to change anything inside publish settings or do I need to try something different with html?
ps: here's the part inside html code where I insert the swf:

I've been searching all over for an answer to this, but have not had much luck. I have an .xml file that loads its data into a DataGrid. However, I don't want all the data to load up at once. I would like it to load the first five records, and after x amount of seconds fade out and fade in with the next five records.
