I am doing a project in AS3. It is a simple "slot machine." When the handle is clicked there are three MovieClips that play starting at random frames and when clicked again they stop on a random frame.
Now, the part I'm having trouble with: I need AS to evaluate the three frames (using currentLabel) and if they match launch a function called playWin. If they don't match then nothing will happen.
I tried a standard "if" statement but the currentLabel property is tripping me up. I also don't know how to compare three statements. I've only had practice comparing two.

Novice Flash dev here. I'm having a bit of trouble passing the name of an existing MC on my stage to a new variable and then tweening it. I've tried everything I could find.Here is the set-up:
3 levels of question difficulty: Easy, Moderate, Hard. Each question is a seperate MC in the library.Each question has two strings of text: one normal and one altered.container_MC contains all of the questions.Inside container_MC each frame contains one of the question MCs along with a second MC called highlight.Each of these frames is then labeled with the difficulty of the question and the question number i.e. easyQuestion1.Highlight is a MC containing a box that surrounds the alteration. It is labled the same as the frame +"Highlight" i.e. easyQuestion1Highlight.Each of the highlight boxes has Alpha =0.Each frame also contains the variables that determine the correct answer and the difficulty of the question.NONE of the objects on the stage have been added dynamically with addChild (note the Novice portion of my intro :D).
On my maintimeline I have one instance of container_MC. If the player selects the correct answer the current frames highlight box changes from Alpha =0 to Alpha =1.

I am trying to get this to work for ages but doesnt seem to work out quite well this is my code:
[Code]...
I know I am missing something simple here. Why does
[Code]....
I have a string:"newImageContainer_mc_0"
And I only want the 0 at the end, how do I strip the String so that I only take from it a character or a group of characters?
I want a simple function that can remove part of a string, eg:
var foo="oranges";
trace(removeStrings(foo,'rang'));
I want the above output as 'oes'.
So my string is something like "BlaBlaBlaDDDaaa2aaa345" I want to get rid of its sub string which is "BlaBlaBlaDDD" so the result of operation will be a string "aaa2aaa345" How to perform such thing with actionscript?
View 1 RepliesI've been writing an AS3 app and dealing with weird behavior from Flash Player 10. It seems to ignore certain errors instead of alerting them (compile time or dynamic).
Blank FLA with this: ActionScript Code: trace("Key pressed: " + String.fromCharCode(0) + " (code: " + 0 + ")");
Will output "Key pressed:" and nothing else. It doesn't output the rest of the string. It seems to get stuck on the String.fromCharCode(0) part, but doesn't throw any errors. Anything higher than 0 works of course. That's extremely annoying and hard to debug. It also happened when I was accessing a class member I didn't initialize, I had no idea why it compiled and ran, but had the wrong output.. it took a while to track down. It also happened to me when using addEventListener, when I tried to access the class "this" from inside the inline function, but instead of throwing any errors it just ignored it and broke the app. It acted like it just stops running the code when it encounter that, I would get traces from before the problem code, but none afterward (and it wasn't frozen). Kind of like a thread crashed.
I had to check a text input from a user to se if is inside an array, the array contains single words with possible answers. What I need to know is; if somebody for example type the "sky is blue" and the array contains "blue", I want it to recognize it even is there's more words in the given string that are not in the array.
View 8 RepliesIs there a possibility to tell flash, that he should ignore a piece of code out of an xml file.I'm asking this becouse our programmer generates dynamicly xml's.these contain a piece of code that makes that flash doesnt want to read our xml.Maybe I could tell flash to ignore this specific string?
View 1 Repliesso I have a string "bla dla dla vre bla 54312" I want to turn it into "bla dla dla " by saying something like
function(string, "vre");
how to do such thing?
Ok perhaps ive bitten off too much here...I know you are not supposed to parse xml/html to regex but the thing is there just arent many other options.Im using AS3.im parsing the source of textflowlayout text to a different format.
string to parse :
< fontFamily=Verdana encoding=unicode fontWeight="bold"> some text < fontFamily=Verdana encoding=unicode > some text < fontFamily=Arial encoding=unicode fontStyle="italic"> some text < fontFamily=Arial encoding=unicode fontWeight="bold" fontStyle="italic"> some text
what i really need is:
< fontname=Verdanabold encoding=unicode> some text < fontname=Verdana encoding=unicode > some text < fontname=Arialitalic encoding=unicode > some text < fontname=Arialbolditalic encoding=unicode > some text
logically i think of it as taking apart the string into substrings
checking if there are fontWeight or fontStyle in the substring
if there is then appending the font name with the weight or style so so that the font name becomes font NameWeightStyle.then rebuilding the string.The font could be any font with variouse styles or weights..so far:
pattern = /<(.*?)>/gixsm;
var matches:Object = pattern.exec(str);
var finalstring:String = "";[code]...........
I'am looking for a flv/video player which allow to seek for not loaded part of the video,just like on youtube.
View 1 RepliesIn Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is. I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched.

I'm using:
[Code]...
But I keep getting an "Error #2030: End of file was encountered." This is (probably) because the class I'm serializing is too big for the "String" object type in AS3. Is there a limitless object for storing an array of characters (or better yet binary), or am I going to have to make my own class? (like one with an array of strings)
I am trying to include double quotes in a string but logic says it would just close the string. I know in html you would use something like ". In flash...I havent the slightest.Anyone know how to go about this?
View 1 RepliesI have a String variable in my flex (flash builder 4) application containing CSV data. I need to allow the user to download this data to a local file. For example, giving them a "csv" button to click and it might present them with a save file dialog (and I would be sending the contents of my string variable).Is this possible / how ?I am using the ResuableFX component for the datagrid to csv. This the code I ended up with that works to save the string to a text file for the user (in a web browser):
var dg2CSV:DataGrid2CSV = new DataGrid2CSV();
dg2CSV.includeHeader=true;
dg2CSV.target=adgEncounters;
[code]......
I really don't understand why this won't work? I've made a test which sends some POST data to a script on my page which works fine.[code]

View 1 RepliesBasically I'm trying to output the contents of an XML document into a dynamic text field (as loaded - not just its node values and content - the entire thing - into a variable called _root.log). The text field is set to show the variable value of _root.log.This is the actionscript...

I get following Error when trying to pass variables via URLRequestMethod.POST;

Is there a method for string URL Encoding?

Im playing around with the last.fm api... Specifically the "getLovedtracks" call.... [URL] This is a weird one that I have never come across... The above call requires a username to return a track listing so if I hard code the username into my class like this.... var username:string = "aidanmack" No problems the call works... if I make that username equal to a dynamic text box string that has "aidanamck" typed into it..
so something like... var username:string = mystage.textbox.text
the last.fm api wont except this... I get user does not exist But if I check the call with the charles proxy Flash is defo sending the username "aidanmack" So I wonder if its to do with have how last.fms api interprets the string?
I need to be able to pass some variables FROM flash and append it to the end of my address. I assumed that if I used LoadVars, I can append the vars to the end of the string like this:
ActionScript Code:
send_btn.onRelease = function ()
{
var my_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();

I am sending a string to asp from flash that looks like this;
[CODE].....
The problem is when asp (probably php too) reads this string, it reads it like this
[CODE]....
Now this sucks, is there a way to encrypt my flash string so asp will read the string corectly? I know asp is url encoding the flash string, but this bit of info does not seem to help.
