ActionScript 3.0 :: Event That Updats All Time?

Aug 31, 2011

I'm looking for an Event or something that will update all the time.If I do a stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, Blah); I'll will just get that one call to the function,

So how do I get something to call the function all the time so I can make constant changes?

Flash :: Getting The Accurate Time For Every MousePressed Event

Aug 6, 2010

When someone clicks in my flash activity, sometimes it triggers a lot of computation. If the user clicks again (e.g. a double click), this event gets queued and dispatched after the heavy computation is complete. If I clicked many times, the problem is just compounded -- if clicked fast enough, the queued heavy computation finishes up to ten seconds later, with each clickEvent slowly dribbling out the next task.

I have two questions. First: how can I get the accurate time for when the click took place? In the example below, I am getting the dispatch of rapid click events long after the click was clacked (sp?).

Second: what is a good design pattern for collecting every click? Off the top of my head I suppose I should

well I tried that and it didn't really work, it only seems to work for the 1st onEnterFrame but doesn't work for the rest... is there a way I can make it work for all 3?

Actionscript 3 :: Synchronize Timer Event To Actual Time?

Apr 19, 2010

I plan to use a timer event to fire every second (for a clock application).

I may be wrong, but I assume that there will probably be a (very slight) sync issue with the actual system time. For example the timer event might fire when the actual system time milliseconds are at 500 instead of 0 (meaning the seconds will be partially 'out of phase' if you will).

Is there a way to either synchronize the timer event to the real time or get some kind of system time event to fire when an second ticks in AS3?

Also if I set a Timer to fire every 1000 milliseconds, is that guaranteed or can there be some offset based on the application load?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Countdown Timer To Event With All Time Zones?

I just want to make a timer counting down to an event and I found this one:

Code:

//Create your Timer object
//The time being set with milliseconds(1000 milliseconds = 1 second)
var countdownTimer:Timer = new Timer(1000);
[Code] .....

which works good enough for me, but the problem is that I need this timer to count the same time no matter in which time zone are you, but unfortunately this isn't the case.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Event Can't Be Recasted Second Time Called?

Sep 21, 2011

I have a base class for buttons which handles button basics like mouse listeners etc.Now I'm trying to extend it to also have the possibility to store an event (yes event, not event type) that is supposed to be dispatched on click.So I have my CustomEvent (extending Event) that I pass into the base class and store it with type Event.Outside, in the event listener I have an event argument typed as CustomEvent.First time I click it works fine and event is CustomEvent traces true in the event handler.But the second time I click, event is CustomEvent traces false and I get the "type coercion failed" error (cannot convert Event to CustomEvent):

Code: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@29d3b7e1 to com.package.events.CustomEvent.
at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()
at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent()
at com.package.display.buttons::ButtonBase/onClick()

If I trace event is CustomEvent in the base class before the event is dispatched it always traces true.So it seems something happens to the event in the dispatcher functions, but what boggles me is that the base class always sees the event as CustomEvent while the event listener thinks it is CustomEvent first time only.

Actionscript 3 :: Ignore A Flash Component's ADDED_TO_STAGE Event During Authoring Time?

Feb 3, 2010

I've built a UIComponent in AS3. When I drag it onto the stage during authoring time, the ADDED_TO_STAGE event fires.

I have an event handler, but it's really only meant to perform actions at runtime, not when I'm dropping the component onto the stage to design the layout. Is there any way to check to see if the component is "running" in a live SWF?

Basically, I don't want the ADDED_TO_STAGE event handler to do anything at design time.
