ActionScript 3.0 :: Filter XMLList To Nodes/attributes That Have A Certain Namespace Prefix

Jun 22, 2009

I have an xml document that has namespace qualified elements. What I want to do is search the xmlList to see how many namespace qualifier elements and/or attributes there are. So for example

<ns1:root xmlns:ns1="httpL//ns1.com" xmlns:xsi="http://xsi.com" xmlns:notused="http://notused.com">
<child1 xsi:attr1="a">some text</child1>

Flex :: Make FlashBuilder Use A Custom Namespace Prefix

Jun 23, 2011

I have a component library. It has a manifest file that looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<componentPackage>
<component id="AutoComplete" class="be.edge.components.AutoComplete" />
<!-- more components left out for brevity -->
</componentPackage>

I compile the library through FlashBuilder with these compiler settings:

When I use the compiled library in other FlashBuilder projects everything works as expected. I get code completion and when I select a suggestion from the code completion a namespace attribute is automatically added to the component, like this:

<s:Skin xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"

ActionScript 3.0 :: Default Xml Namespace And Attributes?

Jul 31, 2009

I was trying to use default xml namespaces, but came upon something strange.

I got the following piece of xml:

<animal type="sheep" xmlns="http://blabla">
<name>josh</name>
<age>2</age>
</animal>

[Code].....

now for some reason, the elements are correctly traversed using the default namespace. But the attribute isn't found. After a bit of debugging, I found that I could only retrieve the attribute when using xml.animal.attribute(new QName("", "type")). Why isn't the attribute in the same default namespace as the element?

ActionScript 3.0 :: XmlList Attributes Index Order

Jan 14, 2009

My xml file that is dynamically generated and contains an attribute that may or may not exist in every node. In this case it's "title"

<album>
<img file="001" title="title1"/>
<img file="002" title="title2"/>
<img file="003"/>
<img file="004" title="sometext"/>
</album>

img file = an image that get's displayed, and I want to test when each file is displayed what the "title" attribute =. That all works great. So depending on what img file I'm using (based on index position), I'm grabbing the title attribute with the position index. The problem is when an attribute is missing the next "title" attribute is moving down into that index position. so when I look for the attribute like this.

[Code]...

Is there a way for the list to hold it's index position based on the img tag and then let me dig down via dot and attribute name? I've tried all sorts of combos with no success.

working with flex 4 and implementing filtering using ITreeDataDescriptor.Filtering worked as expected like the following code snippet however, i am trying to create a on-demand type of filter where user would type in the search clause in a TextInput, and as the user types, the tree nodes would be filtered on the fly.my implementation now is have user click on the search button and then reapply the dataDescriptor then reload the data. A big problem is that the whole tree collapses after setting the dataProvider again.any suggestion on how the on-demand filter can be achieved?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Object Attributes From XML / Sub-attributes

Jun 29, 2009

I am dynamically creating a number of objects (movieclips) which all have a number of attributes.[code]and so on. i.e sub attributes. I don't think this is possible? Only sprite and movieclips can have dynamic attributes so unless atrbY is a movieclip (which it isn't, it's a string) it isn't allowed?Each object can have suboptions with further attributes associated with the chosen suboption.Later in the program I will manipulate, read and interact with the objects and they have text display behaviours dependent on the suboption chosen. That part (should) be straightforward! heh. One the object has the attributes attached in a usable format, accessing them should be simple.This will be for a store. i.e t-shirt1 has size small, price 10, size medium, price 12, size large, price 14. t-shirt2 has size medium, price 35, size large, price 40 and so on.[code]

This format of the XML can be adjusted if it would make the parsing easier.I am currently reading the XML in, stepping through, grabbing the individual parameter such as category and then adding it as an attribute of the object and it works fine. i.e. I end up with obj.category = 'catname'. However, on suboptions I am having a problem.Should I put all the suboptions in a multidimensional array and use nested loops to apply them to the object?I would still have the problem of objX.suboptionarray[Y].suboptionprice which isn't allowed? In the above XML case Y would be 0,1 and 2 giving 3 suboptions to objX and each suboptions would hold attributes such as pvid associated with that suboption.I could go down the horrible route, obj1.suboption1subptionprice ; obj1.suboption1suboptionpname; obj1.suboption1suboptionvalue; obj1.suboption2suboptionprice; obj1.suboption2suboptionpname and so on and so on for each suboption which could be five options (small,medium,large,x-large, xx-large) and which would "work" but would be bad programming and involve splicing names to get say, the "third" suboptions' price and pvid e.t.c

Going down the route of mutidimensional arrays sounds good except that on say 50 objects I would have stacks of arrays which I'm guessing isn't great in terms of resources?.Just to add, the number of suboptions varies between object, every object has a minimum of one suboption (default option) but can have as many as needed (unlikely to be more than 5 but should be scalable). i.e some t-shirts only come in medium whereas some have many sizes.I have a fair amount of leeway on the format of the XML which I generate from the database so the formatting of that could change to make the parsing easier.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Tree Structures - Replace Pointers To Nodes With Nodes Themselves

Jan 26, 2006

For those unfamiliar with tree structures, tree structures are usually dynamic lists where every node has a pointer to two other nodes. They are arranged so it makes for faster searching and stuff and are very useful in programming languages that offer direct access to heap memory. Although I don't know if there would be benefits of making tree structures in AS would be of any help but I decided to have a go at it anyway. Since there are no pointers in flash I tried to just replace pointers to nodes with nodes themselves. Such things usually work in java I think because the language just automatically makes pointers for variables.

Actionscript 3 :: Bad To Prefix All Of Framework Class Names?

Feb 13, 2012

I develop a lot of frameworks for Flash games and applications. I have always prefixed my class names with a random character or two, to avoid conflict with class names that the developer may already have, for example: class LEntity Recently I had a co-worker blast me for poor and "annoying" naming of classes who then proceeded to rename every class in the frameworks I've created for people here to use. I'm having trouble explaining my reasoning thoroughly enough for him to accept what I've done as a good approach.

Is what I've done above actually a bad thing? If not, how can I explain otherwise? If so, why? Comments are asking about namespaces - I know AS3 in this example has what I know to be called a namespace but I'm not sure if this is the same thing or if it can be used as expected.
