ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Button Inside MovieClip Inside MovieClip Doesn't Dispatch Event

View 5 RepliesIn the first frame of the main time line i have 7 movieclips which are buttons. Within these movieclips there are additional buttons with a simple rollover function to change the background colour.
The problem I'm having is that the action on the buttons doesn't work. I'm guessing this is something to do with the AS i have within the mc.
I have an event listener for a custom event type. This custom event overrides the clone method as required.In this event listener I want to dispatch an instance of a different type of event... a different custom event instance altogether. It also overrides the clone method as required.The problem is I'm getting a type coercion error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: ...I do not know what is trying to do the casting. I have a movieClip button in my library that I dynamically add multiple instances of to the stage using code (so each instance has a unique name). The button has two frames, so it has a basic rollover effect (just changes color. To make the rollover work, I've had to dynamically add an event listener to each new instance of the movieclip, which triggers the rollover function.
I was wondering, instead of adding an event listener each time, can I somehow have an event listener within the movieclip to take care of the rollover? Or will it not make any difference to the number of event listeners, as it will still add a listener with each new instance of the clip?
I am having trouble using a custom event in flex. I need to dispatch an event from inside two nested components and receive it in the main application file. The basic set up is a main application file importing a custom "gallery" component.

I have a button inside a movieclip, to which I would like to apply a rollover function. When rolled over, this button (inside MOVIECLIP 1) would make (MOVIECLIP 2) jump to second frame. I have two buttons on the dialog box, but for some reason you can't click on them and when you do, the dialog box just disappears. I'm a beginner actionscripter, so I hope you will take that into account when replying. The problem I am having is that a client has asked me to place a call to action button inside a textbox that scrolls. My idea was to create a movieclip containing the text and the button, then place that movieclip inside a scroll pane. I've been monkeying around with it all day and have made minimal headway. I'm not even sure of the best way to accomplish this.
If one of you learned actionscripters out there could point me in the right direction, perhaps I can find my own solution. The client wants me to use custom icons for the scrollbars, and as altering a scrollbar component seems like such a PIA, I'm trying to avoid using components.
In fact, when i publish my FLA with player 9, there is no prob. When i publish with selecting player 10, there is this problem.

b1_01 is the instance of the button inside designer_mc movieclip~ however I ealized that buttons won't work in movieclip and i just don't know what's other solution

View 2 RepliesI have several website pages set up on different frames inside the content (which is a movieclip) of the home page - which is on frame 1 of the main timeline. The content movieclip name is contentMc.
My About page is at frame 10. There is a button on this page (called btnAbout_contactpg) that I want to make jump to my Contact page (frame 50) - all of which is nested under the main contentMc movieclip.
This is the pathway on my contentMc (where all of my pages are located), just in case that doesn't make sense: [URL]

On the stage I have a movieclip called mc_back. I also have a movieclip on the stage called mc_content. Now, inside mc_content I have a bunch of code and some of it adds, or should add, an EventListener to mc_back as well as a a function that works when mc_back is pressed.
So basically, all code is written inside mc_content and some of it needs to interact with mc_back.
how to target mc_back from inside mc_content. Using stage.mc_back or root.mc_back doesn't work and Google should be my friend, but in this particular problem, it's acting more like my enemy.
I have created event listeners for a particular movieclip.Insidet this movieclip there is so many objects.When ever I click on the parent movieclip the event listener calls the function for the child object. I had tried removeEventLIstener()

I want to use a button inside that movieclip to link to an external web page. I was able to do that with dot notation if the movieclip was "fisically" in the main timeline but this way doesn't work.
I've got a movieClip with some Actionscript applied to it (to make it rotate, stop onMouseOver, and continue onMouseOut).Now, I basically want a button inside that movie clip - applied to the object that's spinning.Whenever I put the button inside the movieClip, Flash doesn't recognise it. I have a frame with a movieclip in it (named "theclip" in the library and has the instance name of "guy"). The movieclip has two frames with stops on them. The second frame inside this movieclip has the label "guy2"
Now back in the basic frame i also have a button (outside the guy movieclip) that i'd like when i press it it jumps to the "guy2" frame of the "guy" movieclip.

what do i add to the script that makes it refer to the movieclip? Is there a line like the _root or _parent and so on?
I have two movieclips, one loads an image, I resize that mc and add it in a bigger movieclip which has to be resized too. My problem is that that the inner movieclip doesn't resize the way I want although I've tried many variants of the sequence of the commands. I've also taken into account something that I read that an empty mc resizes strangely but it didn't change anything.

red mc is the outer one but the sizes of the inner are not right it should be about one third of the outer but it's about two thirds. same with the height.
All I want is to be able to resize them independenlty. with the outter beeing bigger than the inner
I'm trying to create a movieclip object that contains another movieclip that continuously loops. My current problem is, no matter what I try, the embedded movieclip will not play inside the one containing it. It would be significantly more work to design the looping animations in actionscript than through using the IDE, so I would prefer not to have to dynamically create these loops.
View 1 RepliesI have made a sort of drop down menu of a movieclip. There are actually two, the first one named list_over_mc is only to detect when the mouse is in the area for when to drop down the menu (onRollOver) and the other one, list_mc, is holding the menu itself. The problem is that when the menu is down nothing happens when I click the button (now named knapp1_btn). I have tried with another but with the same sort of script (but placed outside of the movieclip list_over_mc) and that works so I'm guessing it is because the button is "over" the other movieclip.
