I've been updating a flash-file for a company and now struggle to sort the menu system. This is how I would want it to work. Had they not used external xml and font swf files it would be done by now, but I have no clue how to include them in the script.

I need access to a range of font glyphs for a localized flash application. I am using Myriad Pro which supports character sets such as Greek and others. Is it possible to embed all font glyphs by simply adding the font to the library and checking the option Export for Actionscript?

View 1 RepliesI spent almost a week trying to figure out how to unload a currently loaded swf using its button and loading a new swf... I have three files, a main.fla, file1.fla and file2.fla. In my main.fla, I have a code which loads the other two files. If i will click the "unload" button in the file1.swf, I would like the main.fla to unload the file1.swf and load the other file, file2.swf. Here is the code to load the file1.swf:

[FMX] I am having trouble loading an XML file on an external server into my flash movie when it is uploaded. The data loads in fine when the flash file is on my local computer with the xml file on a server. As soon as the flash file is uploaded the XML data will not load in.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to embed a font in my project by using url("font.ttf") rather than local("Font Name"), but it doesn't seem to pick it up. The font in question is called "Gotham Bold". When i view the details of the font, the font weight is regular, however when i use local("Gotham Bold") in the css i have to specify fontWeight: bold or else it wont pick it up. But when I use url("folderGotham-Bold.ttf"), and specify fontWeight: bold, it says that font weight is not found for that TTF. If i remove the fontweight, there's no errors, but the font is not applied to the text.

In my application I'm using a custom embedded font for English (Helvetica New) which does not contain characters (glyphs) for chinese unicode range. In the application, wherver chinese characters are avaiable they are not displayed (suppressed) since they are missing in the custom embedded font. How can I make the flash player to use a fallback system font for the missing characters? And the fallback should be for the missing characters alone. For the Engligh characters it should use the embedded font.
View 1 RepliesI have a swf A, which contains no font.If I download into it the swf F1, which contains few characters of Arial, then I'll have the arial font embed into A, no problem with that.But if, then, I download the swf F2, which contains other characters of Arial into swf A, will I be able to use all the embed characters font, only the F2, or only the F1 ?I'd like to have a link to somewhere where this is explained, even in very technical terms : I wasn't able to find one.
EDIT : After few tests, it seems that the player replace the loaded font... How can I merge them, then ?
Is it possible to embed a font in Flash and have it displayed as though it was a device font? In other words, can embedded fonts be aliased?Using the bitmap-text option doesn't work, Flash tends to screw up a lot of the character spacing. I haven't found any pixel fonts that mimic Arial, Verdana and Tahoma accurately. Setting the stage quality to low does alias the fonts but they become fragmented.Using device fonts is an option but, as far as I understand, some browsers/operating systems will take it upon themselves to anti-alias the text.
View 6 RepliesI have this swf that loads a lot of things from others swfs and they all use a non-default font. After searching ways to embedded this font into only one file and currently that's what I have:
- a class that loads the font Class from a swf
- a function that receives a TextField as parameter and change it's font to the loaded one
- a function that iterates over all objects in stage :O looking for text fields and pass them to the above function
So this is half way done, but I'm stuck at two problems. First, it's obviously slow to iterate over all display objects. The final swf will have loads of graphics and this will probably take some time.
And second, not all text fields are in the first frame. So, if I followed this way I would have to redo all the iteration every frame and even then the fields would probably flicker because of the font change.
What I'm asking is: how do I tell my text fields to use the font that will be loaded in the future, so they make the change as soon as they appear? Or better yet, how do I set a "default" font for all text fields without referencing them individually?
My question is simple: Does a externally loaded swf inhert the embedded font of the main swf that loads it? so the do I have embedded the same font in both the main and externally loaded swf?
View 1 RepliesI want to be able to dynamically load a font. The path to the font (a TTF file) will be specified in an XML file. It would similar to loading a XML or bitmap. From the examples I've seen, the font has to be embedded in the source code or has to be placed in a SWF file. This to me means that you have to load all the fonts you need in advance and someone can't add a font that wasn't already pre-loaded.

View?I have a view loading creating an instance of a box class (TextField) for each item in an XMLList, then it adds it to the stage. I want the textField in the box class to use the runtime loaded font. I have no clue in what class to load it in co the box class has access to it.

I'm a typical embedder. I just embed the fonts, register them from another file and be done with it. Though I'm starting to desire to embed some ranges and also use test loading external .ttf files.
What is the best practice for embedding an external TTF at runtime? Is it still basically like this? Anything more modern? I find most blog posts on the subject range in the 2007 area.
I need to display a textfield(present in stage) in different language. The content(in that language) will come from XML. I need to display that content in the textfiled.If I change the language xml, then the text should display the correcponding language. is this possible.

View 4 RepliesWhat I want is to have my application be able to load a .TTF or .OTF file.What I found so far is people embedding their fonts into an .SWF and using the Loader class to load the font that way.That does not work for me because I want people using my system to be able to upload their own fonts, and not forcing them to embed it in an .SWF, because I want to keep my system as simple as possible.
View 2 RepliesEmbedded some characters using embed tag in flash CS3 (font.swf). 2 separate swf (a.swf,b.swf) loads the font.swf on runtime. These 2 swf are being called from a container (parent) swf. It looks find locally and not time consuming to load. But when I view it from a server, computer lags after a while....
(all file sizes are relatively small.around 160kb)
What needs to be done in order to prevent computer from lagging? Is it better to load font.swf not in separate swf but directly in container(parent).swf?
When publishing this FLA, the mac finder gives this message "flash is trying to access files on your external HD. Allow?"When I allow it, all goes well. When I don't allow it or when the external HD is not present, flash cannot embed fonts.I do have the proper fonts on my system and in the library. I don't have these font problems with other FLA files.If I copy all the internal frames and library elements into a new clean FLA, the problem still exists...

When I place the script below in my frame, trying to format a textfield on the stage, the textfield dissapears. Only when I place another element (from the same shared library) in the stage, the textfield responds to the script. Although, when I tried to create a static text using the same font symbol, the dynamic textfield dissapeared, while the static text got the font symbol without any trouble.

I've been trying to figure this one out for a couple of days now, and it's driving me nuts! I'm new to flash (I'm using CS3 with AS2), but I've managed to convert a template into an almost finished site. My problem is this: I've made an external slideshow swf which works fine if used by itself. It's saved as a flash 7 AS2 according to the program (Aleo Slideshow Gallery Maker) used to generate it. It's in the same directory as the main swf file. I'm not sure of the code to load and play the external slideshow swf with a button in the main swf file. Do I need to change the html as well as the swf script? I've tried all sorts of things, but I can't figure the script out on how to finish the flash to include the slideshow. The SWF files inquestion are attached - I'm just using sample iamages at the moment. When I go to the gallery page, I want to be able to click on the fly to load and play the slideshow.

I am trying to find simple code to load an external text file to a CS4 .fla file. (Actionscript 3) I have found numerous tutorials and script on google but every one of them gives me syntax errors... I just want to be able to change the text without having to republish the swf every time...

So could somebody explain in detail how to do this or point me in a good direction? I don't know much about actionscript and I don't plan on doing much more with actionscript then just loading external php files.

My main page has a image mc on the root timeline, in a set location and I'm attempting to make that image change whenever a menu button is clicked, by loading an external swf.I've followed the "Loading Techniques" tutorial here on Kirupa for the AS and the image change works well, except for one thing...When I click on my menu buttons the images change as I've assigned them, but there is a flash of the original image which is sitting on my root timeline. How do I get rid of the original image, upon each click of my menu buttons?
