I am loading an XML file into several textboxes. Each group of textboxes is contained in a movieclip. There is a textbox in each group that varies in height and I want to put each movieclip underneath each other. So I need to get the height of the previous mc in my for loop so I can set the y position of the next mc. I am not quite sure how this is done, but here is my as3:

View 4 RepliesI have five individual movie clips that dynamically load names from five variables in a txt file (these all fade in and out and overlap the transition of the next). Every time the movie loops, I'd like the movie clips to display the next item in the list until every name has been listed - is this doable? Is there a better way to do this from within flash instead of loading the content dynamically?

This particular portion of code is supposed to center the movieClip to the stage, but it is not working for me
target_mc._x = (Stage.width - target_mc._width)/2;
target_mc._y = (Stage.height - target_mc._height)/2;
I added some animation to it as well here:

And added this part just in case the tween was affecting it:

But it only fixes the centering on the y-axis.

Unfortunatley a strange error occus when viewing the site with IE on Mac OSX.I a dynamically loading images using LoadMovie and repostioning them so that they are centred. Sometimes with Mac IE the image doesn't get centred and is loaded with the top left corner in the centre of the screen as it would had the repositioning not happened.
This only happens sometimes and only with some images and with different images each time. I can reproduce the effect on my Mac but am stumped as to why it happens. I have ruled out the flash player version (it happens with them all) and have tried numerous export settings.Here's the code for the loading and repositioning and the link,

View 1 RepliesIn the current project for my schools interactive yearbook(new development). Im trying to create a grid table within a createEmptyMovieClip, by attaching a movie clip from the library, and populating it with an external xml, that i populate a few arrays too.
As of now im just trying to get the basic portion of it down. I see it as if i can create a "page" without having to dublicate the page, then i can easly do it with the multipul pages.
In a nut shell, when i publish my fla, i only get 2 images, when i should have 23, which is the number of childNodes that are in the external XML file...

I'm using C3S Flash and working in a button. The text on the button is set to 'dynamic' and I'm trying to display an array value in the 'var' field.
Is there any way I can use an array value in a dynamic text field? I can display the entire array by putting the 'menuarray' name into the text 'var' field, but if I try to display a subset of the array like 'menuarray[0][1]' it displays nothing, even though this subset holds a value (it shows up fine in the trace window).
Is there any way to get around creating dozens of variables just to display array items?
Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to load dynamic text fields with values from an array? There are tutorials on the net but nothing seems to work for me. I'm beginner and need to have it explained in full detail with nothing missing.
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a banner ad project where we're trying to send dynamic variables from one of our servers to position a movieclip that simply slides in from offstage and then does a little bounce. My AS2 frame script at the beginning of the tween sets the _x and _y properties of the clip successfully. But that seems to destroy all the movement of the tween. In other words, when I set those two positioning properties on the clip, it just sits there and no longer slides in or bounces. I've tried a lot of different values, but they all seem to kill the movement of the tween.

I'm trying to create a dynamic text field which displays the first number contained in an array named _root.arr. I set var to "_root.arr[0]" to catch the first number in the array. Unfortunately it doesn't work because it shows just a blank text field.
I've also noticed that if I just set var to "_root.arr" all the numbers contained in the array will be displayed separeted by a comma.
So, how can I just display the first number in the array?
I'm trying to target a dynamic text box for a slideshow that is located in an attached movieclip.This is the array:var slideShow = ["slide1", "slide2", "slide3", "slide4"]; Each slide is a movie clip that is loaded with attachMovie(). These movies each have a dynamic textbox named "slideDescription". How would I be able to target that text box and get it to change the desciption each time I move to the next slide in the array?

When I try to compare the user.text to word [i] for example even if this values appear at trace() the same, the if (user.text=word[i]) give me everytime false.
i have two different library objects which i add to stage and have them moving around. I have no problems getting the number of all the objects on stage into one dynamic text box, but i want to have the number of each of the two different objects shown in their separate text box. When i try this code, all i get in the dynamic text-boxes, are the name of the objects.

I have my main stage, and into this main stage I am embedding another .swf file (multiple instances on a map). I would like to be able to load dynamic text from an array (addressA) on the main stage into the embedded .swf - can this be done?
Here is what I have tried, and failed with:
1) Creating a dynamic text box on the embedded .swf, giving it an instance name of markeraddy_txt, and writing AS in that .swf for markeraddy_txt.text = addressA;
2) Creating a dynamic text box on the embedded .swf, giving it an instance name of markeraddy_txt, creating a variable on the main stage of var embed = {url:'embed.swf'};, and writing AS in the main stage for embed.markeraddy_txt.text = addressA.
3) Creating a dynamic text box on the embedded .swf, giving it an instance name of markeraddy_txt, and writing AS in that .swf for markeraddy_txt.text = addressA[i];

So basically I'm writing one class file I'd like to be used on many different swf files, each of which can have one or 20+ dynamic text fields. I'd like the swf to loop through each text dynamic field, throw each into an array and then grab an xml item with a matching name as that text field and set its textfield.text value from it. So actually if the dynamic text fields are just in a for loop then I guess I wouldn't even need to place them in an array, just not sure how to identify the dynamic text fields on the stage.
