I am having troubles. I have 4 dynamic text fields. I need to populate them by picking a sentence from about 10 sentences. Each text box would need a different sentence which would "scramble" on load. How do I do it? Use an array?

Normally, I'd just like to sort the array alphabetically using the name field, which is easy enough using the following code. However, I'd like to create a radio button called 'loadedRadioButton' and when it's click on, I'd like to sort the array on the loaded value first(any items with loaded=true should be at the top, sorted alphabetically), then afterwards, any other items with loaded=false, sorted alphabetically should follow afterwards, how can I do it?
I have been making a memory game, where words are shown to the user. Once they have memorised the words they go to the next screen where the words that they have memorised are shown. They then have to drag each word into a "correct" place and a "wrong" place. I now want to edit it so that I can use two arrays one for correct words and one for wrong words. I want to generate random words from each of these arrays. I have sort of worked out how this is possible to do but using dynamic text, but am I correct in thinking that the whole dragging the words thing is not possible with dynamic text. (I may be wrong though, I am quite new to flash).

The trick is that I want it to randomly load a different chunk of text in each time the user opens the site. There are about 25 different small pieces of text I want to randomly load.
I'm thinking of using XML to store the 25 different text sentences, but am open to other ideas.

View 5 RepliesAll I want is to create multiple animated textboxes to slide horizontally from one side of the screen to the other and repeat indefinitely in a loop. Now the 'trick' is that I need the textbox contents to be selected at random from an array and for the speed, size and opacity to vary as well (to give a sense of depth, like the 'Parallax' effect).So, the final effect is multiple random strings of text sliding horizontally across the screen at the same time, some appearing closer than others.I'm positive I've seen this effect explained online before, but for the life of me I can't summon the right keywords to bring up a relevant article in my searches (keep getting lots of text scroller tutorials).If anyone knows of any tutorials out there to accomplish something like the above
View 9 RepliesI have a grid of animated dynamic text boxes that are being pushed in from an array. This works great. I was wondering if it possible to have those randomly bolded? If that is not possible, than could their alpha's be random but not any lower than 50%. I know AS3 does 0-1 but how would you force it to not be lower than a certain number?

I'm making a flash site that displays random quotes in a dynamic text box... well, I wish I could do that but I really don't know how :S. I tried searching in the forums but the word "quote" is too popular and I only get random movement, random animation etc.

I've got two files A and B. A generates a random number in a dynamic text box and loads an image as the background:

I'm trying to avoid useing a button to send the number from A to B, and instead am trying to use an event listener that sends the number when A loads background.jpg; but the number never gets sent (I start with B open already, and then open A). I've gotten this to work with an onRelease event for a button , so i know the LocalConnection coding works, but as I said I want to avoid using a button to send the number. I'm sure it's right in front of me but i've got no clue why it isn't working, so I defer to wiser minds.
I'm using C3S Flash and working in a button. The text on the button is set to 'dynamic' and I'm trying to display an array value in the 'var' field.
Is there any way I can use an array value in a dynamic text field? I can display the entire array by putting the 'menuarray' name into the text 'var' field, but if I try to display a subset of the array like 'menuarray[0][1]' it displays nothing, even though this subset holds a value (it shows up fine in the trace window).
Is there any way to get around creating dozens of variables just to display array items?
Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to load dynamic text fields with values from an array? There are tutorials on the net but nothing seems to work for me. I'm beginner and need to have it explained in full detail with nothing missing.
View 3 RepliesI want a movieclip consisting of a dynamic text box that, from the time it's loaded onto the stage, loads a randomly selected text string from an array, and continues to loop until the clip is removed from the stage. I also want the text strings to appear in the text box for random intervals between 500 and 3000 milliseconds.
While I've found tutorials here and elsewhere on loading one element from an array, usually triggered by a button, I don't know how to combine/alter it with the other elements.So I want this movieclip on the stage randomly flashing phrases from an array, some for a barely perceptible time, and others for a readable time.
I've been putting data into an array via XML, and then selecting at random an image string to load in a pic at random. But whilst doing this, I wanted to remove the String from the Array that I have just used, so I don't get repetition of the same image in the output. I initially thought that pop would remove the string I had just used - But of course it Removes the last value in the Array instead, which doesn't really help.
Ok - so how about randomizing the data once inside the Array, after it has been pulled in from XML!? That way I can load in the 'last' image, and then pop it out! Keeping a randomized selection of images each time 'it' is loaded
All I need to do is be able to make information typed in by a user into a txt field to be sent to an email address to my choice when they hit a button. Sort of a comments box type thing, where the comments are sent instantly to an email address. Sounds simple i'm just having trouble doing it,

I'm trying to create a dynamic text field which displays the first number contained in an array named _root.arr. I set var to "_root.arr[0]" to catch the first number in the array. Unfortunately it doesn't work because it shows just a blank text field.
I've also noticed that if I just set var to "_root.arr" all the numbers contained in the array will be displayed separeted by a comma.
So, how can I just display the first number in the array?
I'm trying to target a dynamic text box for a slideshow that is located in an attached movieclip.This is the array:var slideShow = ["slide1", "slide2", "slide3", "slide4"]; Each slide is a movie clip that is loaded with attachMovie(). i have two different library objects which i add to stage and have them moving around. I have no problems getting the number of all the objects on stage into one dynamic text box, but i want to have the number of each of the two different objects shown in their separate text box. When i try this code, all i get in the dynamic text-boxes, are the name of the objects.

I have my main stage, and into this main stage I am embedding another .swf file (multiple instances on a map). I would like to be able to load dynamic text from an array (addressA) on the main stage into the embedded .swf - can this be done?
Here is what I have tried, and failed with:
1) Creating a dynamic text box on the embedded .swf, giving it an instance name of markeraddy_txt, and writing AS in that .swf for markeraddy_txt.text = addressA;
2) Creating a dynamic text box on the embedded .swf, giving it an instance name of markeraddy_txt, creating a variable on the main stage of var embed = {url:'embed.swf'};, and writing AS in the main stage for embed.markeraddy_txt.text = addressA.
3) Creating a dynamic text box on the embedded .swf, giving it an instance name of markeraddy_txt, and writing AS in that .swf for markeraddy_txt.text = addressA[i];

I am loading an XML file into several textboxes. Each group of textboxes is contained in a movieclip. There is a textbox in each group that varies in height and I want to put each movieclip underneath each other. So I need to get the height of the previous mc in my for loop so I can set the y position of the next mc. I am not quite sure how this is done, but here is my as3:

I have five individual movie clips that dynamically load names from five variables in a txt file (these all fade in and out and overlap the transition of the next). Every time the movie loops, I'd like the movie clips to display the next item in the list until every name has been listed - is this doable? Is there a better way to do this from within flash instead of loading the content dynamically?
