I have an html text being brought in from XML to a dynamic text field. The html text has a <br> in it. I need an If statement that can detect if the text has the "<br>" in it or now. How do I do that?
View 8 RepliesI'm trying to pull a variable from an ASP page that's pulling it's info from a database. The ASP page has a response.write that outputs &ScrollText = text that comes from the database. The ASP page works fine, but when I try to pull in the variable in Flash, it takes in all the html URL escapes, i.e.: %20 for a space %22 for a ", etc. I've tried using Server.URLEncode in my ASP page, but that didn't help any. I'm displaying this text in a dynamic text box with a scroll bar.
View 1 RepliesI'm importing text via an XML file that will then be displayed in a dynamic text field. The text is about 1 sentence long but one of the words in the sentence must be bold and a different color. So I've added some HTML tags in the XML node to change the color and format but when I test the file the html tags show in the dynamic text field and the text is NOT formatted.[code]Am I not using the CDATA tag properly? Or do I need to change something in the way I call up the data in the xml node?

The example given adds 1 to the score, but if a user adds a space then a second word the text box views it as a whole and not individual words, resulting in no values added to the score variable.The problem lies with the whole text box being viewed as one entire string. Instead, I want to split it up so word1 will add 1 to the score, word2 will add 1 to the score, etc.
make one word in a dynamic text field bold WITHOUT using the htmlText property? Everything I have read seems to indicate that you can only make the whole field bold.

I am creating a flash banner using a layered psd. The account team is happy with the look of the psd. BUT, when I bring the images into flash and publish the file, the colors look different. I import them into flash at the highest quality yet they don't look the same.

Basically there are two times when I would want to listen for this event: When the modal is first created (although in theory creationComplete / show / etc.. could suffice here). When the user brings a modal that is not in the front to the front by clicking on it. In my case the popups I am working with are descendants of TitleWindow and listening for focusIn does not seem to work reliably.

When I click on the combo box, the menu drops down like normal, but no matter what I click on, it goes blank. View 2 RepliesI am having this weird problem when I load an XML document.The last part of the text doesn't 'wrap', if that is the proper english expression; the lines don't go to the next line they just get lost. You can see what I mean in this link, by clicking on the Kaiser Chiefs item/photo/text, and then scroll down in the article. However, when you go back to home and do it again, the text looks allright! But that is too late of course.

For example if the text inside an html textfield is:

And if i replace the text on line 2 and make it bold without effecting line 1.
in a flash template i found several buttons with almost the same action script code. on pressing the button a window popup with different text (for each button a unique text). the following code is in the code section of the buttons, only the two last codelines are different for each button.

so i think that the input of the unique text for each button is handled in the last line "_root.READ = 22". i also found in the bibliothek the belonging text parts. my problem now is that i dont know where the connection is set between the text part and the array/variable READ. in this case the connection is 22, but i dont found any property in the text part or in the property of the button where the connection is set to 22. i use flash cs4.
I've created a 3 state button, then imported it to a movie clip. I want to use a set of 6 of the identical buttons as navigation controls, so I've created 6 instances all named uniquely. My problem seems terribly simple, but I can't find an answer anywhere and I've spent hours going in circles.
No matter how I put a text label on the button (right now it is built into the button as dynamic text), when running the final file when the user's mouse is on the text the button cannot be clicked - it disables the button. So I have 6 buttons that cannot be clicked unless the user clicks right on the edge of the button (not on any part of the text). Is there not a simple way to overcome this? How do I make the text part of the button so it is clickable as well?
I'm working on an auto complete Input Text field. The user starts to type the state name "Pennsylvania" and when they reach 4 letters the box auto completes. My code is as follows and works:

Instead of auto completing I want the "sylvania" of Pennsylvania to be added to the text box but highlighted. So if the user keeps typing the "sylvania" part will be deleted or if they press the right arrow key the "sylvania" part will be added. Similar to how Google's auto complete works.
I have an AS3 application which seems to be leaking memory slowly while running. I've been looking for a profiler for Flex 2 / AS3 and haven't been able to find one yet, in fact I saw posts from people at Adobe saying they were working on it but no release in the short term!
Does anyone have any more news on this, or more usefully have any information on a profiler or other way it is possible to find memory allocation and usage during runtime of an AS3 application? It would really help me to identify what areas of my application are leaking memory.
I am trying to produce an auto check on the synchronizing process between XML values (string based by nature) and object properties.
E.g. if the property on the instance is of

Its all swell apart from Arrays, which mainly are identified as 'object'.
Anyone know the best check to differ between Array and Object?
I have an xml and it has items, you can trace the items in Flash, but how do I call them to allow me to identify that object getting clicked on the stage?
e.g. Item 1.2- how can I identify it in Flash?

I have 16 layers of movieclips (one in each layer), each has been given the instance name, "line1" through to "line 16". I'm trying to figure out how to hide all of them through actionscript, so far, my code is:

line[x]._visible = false;
}
but for some reason, it doesn't hide all the instances. I've tried typing it in seperatly, (line1._visible = false; , line2._visible = false; , etc...) and it works, but for some reason, when I use the for loop, it doesn't work..
I've been scouring the web to see how to do this, and now I'm not even sure it's possible. However, it seems there must be way. What I want to do is create a function that will take x,y coordinates and tell me what MovieClip or Sprite is at that location. I want it to happen automatically, without any MouseEvents or anything like that.

I have a dynamic text field(DTF) consisting of many lines and DTF has vertical auto-scroll, here we say I have these three lines:
L1.....
L2.....
L3.....
Then I have three separate movie clips( originally images, say img1, img2, and img3).these images are added by as3 on the scrren, above my DTF.
Such this:
L1.......img1
L2.......img2
L3.......img3
How I can croll down my DTF such taht these images move accordingly with their corresponding text lines?For example while scrolling down my DTF then img1 should follow the same y-position as L1, and so on.

View 4 RepliesTake a look at this demo, how do they accomplish the Inline Changes feature? To me it looks like they are floating a movieclip over the textarea. What I can't figure out is how they anchored the movieclip to stay in the correct position. If you type something before the movieclip it moves position along with the text, the movieclips even move to the next line when the text word wraps. Does anyone have an idea?

These checkboxes are to provide additional details to a background picture and therefore they each have a unique name and an eventlistener to add the extra details to the background picture. Depending on other buttons clicked on the stage, the list of checkboxes could change for the same background picture. I have a selection of 5 different background pictures all of which have a different list of checkboxes. I therefore want to load the checkboxes dynamically. When a button is clicked to change the background picture, I want to remove all the checkboxes associated with that picture and display a new set for the new picture.
