Where The Connection Is Set Between The Text Part And The Array / Variable READ

in a flash template i found several buttons with almost the same action script code. on pressing the button a window popup with different text (for each button a unique text). the following code is in the code section of the buttons, only the two last codelines are different for each button.

so i think that the input of the unique text for each button is handled in the last line "_root.READ = 22". i also found in the bibliothek the belonging text parts. my problem now is that i dont know where the connection is set between the text part and the array/variable READ. in this case the connection is 22, but i dont found any property in the text part or in the property of the button where the connection is set to 22. i use flash cs4.

Alright so lets say I have a number of movieclips or text fields or something with instance names test1, test2, test3 and so forth. Now say I want to fill these text fields with text that I have in an array and I want to do this with a loop, how do I do this? What I'm really asking is if there is a way to use a variable in an instance name if you catch my drift.

I have used a method to shuffle a part of a Array, but i noticed that it does not work very well.When i run this method I sometimes get empty array values.So if you would try the example below and test it out some times you would get a right result but sometimes a wrong result.For example when i run this i get in my trace output:
a,b,c,d,g,,e,f (here after the g it goes wrong)

I admit I'm fairly new to flash, but I've almost finished an entire RPG battle system complete with music [etc. etc.] - but my problem is trying to add a preloader.. I have a basic page which says "Loading" and has a Dynamic text box below which should read the Variable "_root.loadText". In the first frame I have this code:

and in the second just "_root.gotoAndPlay(1);" for the updating process. I'm sure that's all okay. But when I export it, then upload the swf file to somewhere like SwfCabin to show people for testing purposes, they have to wait on just a blank white screen for 1~3 minutes.. -note: I use both Adobe flash CS3 [at home] and Macromedia Flash 8 [at school] - I can stick to just CS3 if needed.

I am working on a line rider/ free rider style game in flash (which is coming along quite nicely ). For the whole night I've been trying to create a way to save and load data simply off text and have finally come up with a basic solution for it! I have my information all stored into an array neatly to be later used with the function lineTo upon load. My problem here is that when I actually input the data into the textbox to be picked up by the load button it does not draw the lines like its supposed to.My load button has the following code:

I'm using LoadVars to load an external file that has one variable containing an array with a few sub arrays.

But every time I try to get one of the values I get "undefined". is there another way?

I am new on FMS , and working on fms2.0 samples. I try to run video conferance sample. I can use that sample on my computer.(when i create folder in ...fms3.5applications it works). but i want to use another FMS server. to do that i changed code in samples.and i use settings.xml.[code]it tooks connection variable from xml file.url...it works only on a computer which fms server installed.

I have 36 buttons on my stage that are named [thumbBut0, thumbBut1, thumbBut2,..., thumbBut35]. Each button is a thumbnail image. I want to have it so that when the user clicks on a given thumbnail, the full-sized image corresponding to the thumbnail gets loaded and viewed...yada, yada, yada... So, if the user clicks on thumbBut25, the 25th image gets viewed...
My question: is there some cool way that I could avoid writing 36 different (although they would be similar) "_level0.thumbButXX.onRelease = function()..." type things for each of the 36 buttons. In other words, when the user clicks the instance "thumbBut25" something grabs the "25" part out of the instance name, converts it to an integer, and passes it on to a function that loads up the image that corresponds to "25"?

I am trying to play movie clips from an array. I can do this using randObj[1] but would like to use a variable randObj[i] to play the movie clips. I do not want to use root. I think something is wrong with the syntax i am using because randObj[i] comes back undefined when i trace it. Here is the code i am using

Basically, I have a main swf and a global.as file main swf defines: Global.vars.username = "me"; and main swf also loads inside another swf (account.swf) on that swf (account.swf) the following code is performed:

testing live on internet is the problem, if the computer/connection is slow the global variable isn't grabbed. Like if flash sometimes loads first what has to go inside txtWelcome.text before grabbing the content inside Global.vars.username

All of the tutorials I have found re: local connections seem to outline 1 swf sending info & the other swf receiving. Is it possible to have two swfs using exactly the same action script for their variables to effect each other? I've got two swfs with 2 different sets of buttons who react the same way on roll over. Once a button is selected it remains highlighted. I want to know if I can have a button in swf 1 highlighted but un-highlight when a button in swf 2 is selected?

I had to check a text input from a user to se if is inside an array, the array contains single words with possible answers. What I need to know is; if somebody for example type the "sky is blue" and the array contains "blue", I want it to recognize it even is there's more words in the given string that are not in the array.

The main part is where I have created the variable: IconGif... it reads a portion of the xml file and turns it into a rference that will eventually relate to an instance name of a movieClip. I was going to use:

to place the item on the stage to whatever the xml says that day,
My problem occurs because the function I have used to create the variable, clashes with the attachMovie function and I receive the message:
TypeError: Error #1006: attachMovie is not a function.
