I have used a method to shuffle a part of a Array, but i noticed that it does not work very well.When i run this method I sometimes get empty array values.So if you would try the example below and test it out some times you would get a right result but sometimes a wrong result.For example when i run this i get in my trace output:
a,b,c,d,g,,e,f (here after the g it goes wrong)
a,b,c,f,g,d,e (here it goes right)

I'm pretty new to actionscript. I have an outline of a human body. When the user would click on one part of the body (x y coordinates) it would return the name of that part of the body? I'm assuming i would be using an array in this instance. How you can assign x and y coordinates to an array?

I want to assign a specific frame from a movie clip to a specific item in an array. I have a movie clip with 52 frames and each one has a different image of a playing card. I also have an array in a separate as file that has 52 items. If say I want to assign frame 1 of the movie clip to array[0] what exactly must be done? If I click on a button and a two of spades is drawn, how do I make sure the two of spades frame in the movie clip is chosen?

View 4 RepliesI have great difficulties with something that should be rather simpel to solve, but the problem is that I'm out of solutions to my problem.The buttons that are created from an loop that retrieves it's data from array's doesn't load the external swf, instead it gives my an 'undefined' output.I tried several different array constructions found on other threads, defined them differently, but it won't work.

I'm trying to make a Welcome ("User") animation for an eLearning template, and was asked to do it in AS3, which my team and I don't really have experience with (most of us stick w/ AS2 cos we're timeline oriented people), but the manager figured the best way would be to dive right in.The goal is to have handrawn letters w/ vignettes behind (like medieval books have) display a user's username (8-10 characters), which will be stored in one of two javascript variables, depending on which LMS the course is loaded into (one SCORM 2004, and one AICC).
I am able to get a loop to trace one letter at a time, which is a good start, I think, but getting the drawn object to go into an MC based on the characters is beyond me. I am also having trouble finding out how to check for the existence the vars on the HTML page.I have 10 empty MCs on the stage, with instance names of b0-b9, and the MCs with the images in them (yeah, they could just be graphic objects, but whatever) are titled iA-iZ and i0-i9.All I have thus far is

I am trying to play movie clips from an array. I can do this using randObj[1] but would like to use a variable randObj[i] to play the movie clips. I do not want to use root. I have an array named "lagers1" when I trace lagers1[0] I get: lagers1[0]= _level0.firth_l0
Now I want to decide if "firth" is in the name of "_level0.firth_l0". I have tried with slice but all the time it shows undefined. Is there a way to get a part of an arraymname in a variable?
I am currently storing the items of this array as a variable. thats cool, but what I want to do is remove the b so I get 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 instead of b1 b2 b3 b4 etc.

View 5 Repliesin a flash template i found several buttons with almost the same action script code. on pressing the button a window popup with different text (for each button a unique text). the following code is in the code section of the buttons, only the two last codelines are different for each button.

so i think that the input of the unique text for each button is handled in the last line "_root.READ = 22". i also found in the bibliothek the belonging text parts. my problem now is that i dont know where the connection is set between the text part and the array/variable READ. in this case the connection is 22, but i dont found any property in the text part or in the property of the button where the connection is set to 22. i use flash cs4.
I had to check a text input from a user to se if is inside an array, the array contains single words with possible answers. What I need to know is; if somebody for example type the "sky is blue" and the array contains "blue", I want it to recognize it even is there's more words in the given string that are not in the array.

I have a decompiled swf which I've heavily modified consisting of two large buttons with identical behaviors. When I assign a url to the button layer after double clicking on the left button, then the right, the behavior are both applied to the same sprite which, when viewed in the library, only represents the left button ("url one"), while the second url is missing. There are two separate layers for each button on the scene, yet I can't get separate urls applied to them because of this.I could just create two separate files, but that would add to the amount of code...
View 7 RepliesI'm currently translating an application from actionscript-3 to Java code and got stuck with a variable assignment problem.
There is such block in as3 application: var num:*=0; num = 5.5;
As far as I understand AS3, variable is declared of an unknown type, which is resolved during the first assignment =0 meaning it will become int. Am I right?
So does that mean that by assigning 5.5 to it, the Number will be converted to int, and I will have num==5 in the result? Or will it become Number after assigning Number to it?
Added:but I don't have any Flash environment to test it myself. I'm converting one of the utility methods from actionscript to Java and got stuck with this problem.
Added 2: The question is, if num will contain 5 or 5.5 at the end of this block?
