ActionScript 3.0 :: JS ExternalInterface Calls Crashes Flash Player

Jun 11, 2009

We build a flash application in ActionScrip 3 which provides JS external interface calls. We load another swf on our swf. If we don't enable external swf, any JS calls through external interface works fine. However, if external swf is active, at some points when there is any JS calls through external interface, Flash player plugin crashes which also bring down the whole browser, I see that on IE and FF.

what may cause external interface call to crash Flash plugin?

Flash :: Preventing A Swf From Invoking ExternalInterface Calls Without Recompiling It?

Apr 16, 2011

I'm working with a third party swf that I cannot change and am charged with making it work in a local environment, loaded within a container application I have built. The SWF was published for accessing the network sandbox, so whenever it invokes the ExternalInterface in a local html container, it throws a security sandbox error and kills execution. The ExternalInterface calls are all non-critical (logging) so if I can block them somehow, then I won't have a problem any more.

Javascript :: ExternalInterface Call Crashes The Browser?

Jan 20, 2011

In Actionscript 3, I make a call to Javascript using:

ExternalInterface.call('javascriptFunction');

If in Javascript, there's an error or a blocking call, the entire browser will freeze. I can't use Firebug in Firefox to debug it because the act of stepping through the callback also crashes the browser. How do I go about debugging this?

[Code]...

I'm on an HP desktop with Windows 7, Firefox 5.0, IE9, and Chrome 12.0.742.122. Either alert call will randomly cause Firefox to freeze...it actually usually happens in bunches, where it'll freeze for a few times continuously (obviously restarting Firefox each time)..and then stop for a few hours and be alright. It has yet to crash IE9 or Chrome, though I haven't tested it as extensively with Chrome. Using the Firefox console doesn't help since Firefox just crashes all together. If anyone could shed some light on that, that'd be great!

ActionScript 1/2 :: Bug With Multiple Calls To ExternalInterface.call?

Oct 7, 2009

Are there any known issues (and workarounds) involving multiple calls toExternalInterface.call in ActionScript 2.0?I have 3 functions, each of which calls an external JavaScript function.  These 3 functions run nearly back-to-back-to-back.  The first time I load the page containing my Flash movie in a browser, I see the effects of all 3 JavaScript functions, as expected.  However, once I begin reloading the page a few times, I begin to randomly see the effects of only 1, 2, or 3 of the JavaScript functions. Clearing the browser cache seems to "reset" this cycle, guaranteeing all 3 calls to work again successfully.

Firefox - Flash Player Debugger Plugin Crashes On Mac OS

Actionscript 3.0 :: Flash Player Crashes When Testing My Movie

Oct 8, 2010

I'm working on a rather simple game and learning AS3 as I go along. I've come a pretty long way so far but now after adding some lines of code and changing a few - when testing my movie, Flash player starts and almost immediately crashes. I've went over the code I wrote, but all seems fine. Yet, being a complete newbie at AS3 and programming in general, it is very possible I'm missing the culprit.

Flash :: Professional - Player Eats Up Memory Until It Crashes - Can't Watch Full SWF

Mar 31, 2010

I have a 180mb SWF which is a lecture from one of my online classes, when i try to watch it i can watch about 20 minutes and then it will run out of memory. I watched in my task manager as Flash player went from only using 20mb to upwards of 500mb to 1000mb and it kept going up, it's like the more i watch it just keeps going up and up. Tried it on 3 different computers and still get the same problem, is there some reason this would be happening? Why does flash player eat up so much memory? I have Adobe Flash CS4 installed so it's playing through the player not a web browser or anything. (tried it in web browser and it does the same thing)

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash 8 : Script Crashes Flash Player?

Jan 15, 2009

In my "game", there are gray blocks and black blocks. The blocks are randomly placed on load (20% chance each spot will be a black, 80% of gray), and the "player", begins at (0,0).

I created two functions on the player movie clip. One, called hitTry, tests to see if the given values for a clip (x, y, width, height) will touch the given values of another clip (x, y, width, height). The other, called movePlayer, is meant to take in a variable (direct) that is the direction the player is attempting to move. Once it takes that in, it calculates the (x, y) that the player would have should he move in that direction, and plugs it in to hitTry to see if it would hit anything.

The only reason I can see for it crashing is that I use a for loop that runs the test function for each black block, testing the player's values against the values of ever black block in the game. I cannot, however, find any other way to do this.

I'm going to add the fla to the thread, seeing as it is nothing but a pet project anyways. I still would like to know the solution very much and am quite urgent about it.

P.S. I create a duplicate of the original "player" movie clip because I had problems getting the original movie clip to show over the duplicated squares. Anybody know why duplicated clips always go to the front?

P.S.2. The code for "spawning" the player and squares is in a red square out of the document boundaries called "handler". The control for the squares are also off screen, all to the left. The code for the player is in the original player movie clip, the blue circle near the other movie clips off screen.

Javascript :: Hide And Show Flash Video Player With ExternalInterface?

Mar 1, 2011

I'm trying to create an overlay containing a flash player that is shown when a user clicks on a link. The div containing the player starts with display:none in CSS. Upon clicking, the div will be shown, and JS will use ExternalInterface to configure and start the player. The JS configures the player when it catches a "flash ready" event, which is fired by Flash on ADDED_TO_STAGE.All this works, except that the ExternalInterface callbacks are never created. The JS and AS3 work fine if the player is shown upon page load, or is hidden with visibility:hidden instead of display:none. I am aware that Flash will not be initialized with display:none, and this works as expected: when the Flash is unhidden, it fires its events and correctly initializes everything else (eg. GUI, other internal stuff). The only thing that doesn't happen as expected is that my ExternalInterface callbacks are not added.

ExternalInterface.available is true. It's not a timing problem, because even after several minutes the callbacks are still not present. The strangest bit is that the flash is able to call JS, fires JS events fine, and the code to fire the events comes after the code to add the callbacks. There are no errors thrown by any of the AS3 code. I'm seeing this problem in both Chrome and Firefox.

ActionScript 3.0 :: ExternalInterface And Wmv Player?

Jan 28, 2009

I have a problem in the communication between as3 and javascript: simply I want to use a flash movie in the same page where I included an wmv object player. When I try to invoke a function on JS (from as3) I note that all the normal playstate and commands to handle the wmv player are inverted. (for example the movie is playing the variable document.Player.playstate is set to 2-paused and so on). Even further I figured out I have big problems in fullscreen/set volume commands. Does anyone face this problem too? Where can I find useful links?

In these cases I can actually edit the actionscripts.I'm not sure if the crashes are related to Leopard; don't remember if I tried opening one of the problem files since upgrading.I'm on a MacBook Pro 17 2.33, 2gb ram.I repaired permissions (several times), ran various Onyx processes, zapped pram, removed all the prefs files I could find, and reinstalled the whole suite (CS3 Master suite). Bridge won't even open; it crashes on opening.

.Fla File Won't Open, Crashes Flash

Jun 16, 2000

I've got a 9MB fla file that suddenly doesn't open any more. When I try to open it, it crashes Flash. When I try to open it as a library, it crashes Flash. Someone told me a library object might be corrupted - not good, irreparable. I'm on a Mac and when I try opening the fla file it gives me an "error type 2 occurred." I imported the swf file into a new Flash file, but now it's just a one-layer straight-streaming movie with every frame a completely new, redrawn keyframe. Is there any way to resurrect the original fla file? I've got a Sunday deadline?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Crashes On Publish

Aug 1, 2007

I am having a problem with Flash at work. Any time I try and publish a file, whether its a .swf, .exe, or whatever, Flash crashes and closes. I am running Windows Vista x32, and Flash CS3. Any file, as long as it is saved and publishing a copy of the file with the same name, does this. The only way I can get around it is publishing from an Untitled document that hasn't been saved yet....even then all I get is a preview, not an actual published file.

The files I am working with publish fine on other machines. I have contacted Adobe and all I got was "reinstall," and "run a clean install." I reinstalled 3 times, and have run CS3clean twice along with more reinstalls (once each using each separate level of cleaning.) None of it worked; I still get the same issue. Also, I cannot open the ActionScript tab without flash crashing; the only workaround is to open an untitled document, open the AS tab THERE, and THEN open an already existing document. From there though I can't check my syntax or auto-format.

Image Sequence Crashes Flash?

Jun 13, 2011

I am using:

Win7 32bit
2GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz

Flash CS5

and I have this problem: i am currently trying to create a 720p movie consisting of 738 single JPG pictures; 6 frames/second. Each picture has 204 KB, all the pictures together add up to 226 MB.Yet still, Flash is crashing (due to memory overload?) once I have loaded like 100 pictures of my sequence... I loaded 90 pictures and tried exporting it as a small AVI-movie, but even that made Flash crash. I checked the Windows task manager, and I saw that even with only 90 pictures loaded, Flash already takes up 1,6 GB of my RAM.Is there a way making Flash save those pictures not on the memory, but on the disk, in a temporary folder or something? I wouldn't care if it takes way longer.
