ActionScript 3.0 :: List Component Cell Rollover Actions

Ive got a problem with the list component in Flash CS3 (as3). I need it to load an image respective to the label the mouse is hovering on.[code]The "MOUSE_OVER" event is being triggered every time the mouse is hovering over the list.I need it recognise the cell its on and its data.[code]
Previously in AS2, to set the style for a List Component when the mouse was over an item you would simple set it with Code:
setStyle("rollOverColor", 0x000000);
I've been trying to find info on how the heck you do this in AS3, cause the above dont work.i've been playing with the following code, but it does not have a rollOver property

PS, normally when a programing language is changed, is is done at an easing speed, but AHHH! NO!!! not with AS3, it has changed 101%
how to populate a list box component located within a seperate mc in my swf with an array... the array comes from a response from a webservice call. I am not currently on the computer with my source code available so lets just use the following....
listdata[i] = the array i want to populate the list box with..... (listdata1, listdata2, listdata3, listdata4, etc. etc.) movieclip1 = the MC within my fla containing the list box component mylist = the actual list component
... just not all that familiar with the format of actionscript when working with objects... using CS3 and as2 btw,
I trying to find a way to color each cell of a list componet...i'd like it to be dynamic so i can control what cells are colored and what cells aren't.
The problem with the code below is that TextFormt does not support wordWrap which is upported by TextField(which, unfortunately has no effect on a List component).

Basically each row in my table is a different food. I have columns for basic things like description. But, I have a "ingredients" array, and "how much" array, in an array. Basically on my end I can go ingredientsArray[0] howMuch[0] to display the ingredient and how much of it. So, Id like to save both of these arrays in a cell for the row of the food. I heard I could serialize the array, and save it. But I need it to be searchable. (Also, there is no set limit to how many ingredients. So I cant like have a column for each thats why I am going the array route). I'm doing my programming in AS3, and usng AMFPHP to connect to Mysql.
I need to implement a custom cell renderer in a project of mine, I have done some search on google but couldn't find what I need, I need each cell in the tilelist to display 2 icons with couple of labels, I need a good example to start it. If possible I need a way to design the template as a movieclip and pass it to the tilelist for rendering the cells.
A few hours ago I've asked how to create a custom component (textInput and label component and created a Component Definition) and with your answers I can do that now.
Problem 2: I'd like to use that component in a datagrid column so that the user can type a value in the textInput which will in turn update the underlying dataprovider. I know I should use a cellrenderer like I've done with a checkbox column
Okay, trying to find a solution to this, I have been searching everywhere. I have a flash project with a grid of images; 3 images tall by 4 images wide. Here's what I want, when you rollover each image, the others get covered up with a larger version of the particular image, no fancy animations or anything like that, it needs to just appear. The problem I am encountering is that the expanded image is part of the rollover so rolling over anywhere the expanded image should be reveals the larger image. So the million dollar question is... how do I make the only active part of the rollover action be the small version of the image
So I have a window that slides in when its rolled over. It goes back to its origin when the user rolls off the window. Now within that window I have a scroll feature taht creates a conflict with the window actions when the user tries to use the scrollbar elements. I want the window to stay open, while the user is scrolling and i want the window to close when the user rolls off the window.
It could be easier to have the user click the window open/closed...but I was wondering if there is a way I could keep my original vision...here is what i wrote for the window code:
Now, this mc is on the Main timeline and has an istance name "home_btn". I have a sliding menu type navagation going on and have some code for the "home_btn" on the main timeline:
WHen I try to use the code on the maintime line and the code on the button inside the mc--it ofcourse doesn't work. How can I reference the rollover/out actions on the inside of the mc from the main timeline?
I've been working with the flash data grid component, and I want to update just one cell in the data grid without updating the entire dataset. I haven't found anyway to do this and the object inheritance makes it really difficult to track down properties of specific child elements. Here's a snippet i use to get data from a specific data cell:

What's the best way to do this? It's NOT on a click event or interactive event.
I'm interested in learning how to create a "3d" object that a user can interact with using their mouse. I've taken 60+ pictures of a camera rotating by 5 degree increments and I'm trying to put together something similar to what Verizon has on their website for phones - Where your mouse rolls over an object and rotates it.
I've seen this done with Java as well, but I'm interested in how flash does it.
I got a problem with making a Flash banner. I've been looking over the internet for guides and tutorials for the past 2 days, but they just don't seem to work for me :/What I'm trying to make:Banner normal:Banner when you hold your mouse over "News":With "Game" and "Website" also being a button that link you to another page.So far I've managed to make a Rollover action, but it activates whenever I hold my mouse over the whole banner, not just the button (the "News" text). I got no idea what I'm doing wrong, or what I should do instead.
I'm working on a multiple choice question. Giving hints for each possible answer. So far, I've been able to do that on all but the selected radio button. For some reason, once I select it, the rollOver state no longer applies. Does anyone know of another way to turn on a function when a selected radiobutton is rolled over? By the way, I'm using AS2.
I am working on an older Flash project created in CS3 ActionScript 2.0 How can I make the pointer cursor change to the hand when hover over a list item?_root.slidePanel.myList'myList' is the list. I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. I assumed this was the object containing all of my list items but the only members of this MC I can see (when tracing them out) are 'setRGB' and 'searchKey'.
I have a combobox and list component on the stage. The combobox has 3 selections. How do I get it so that each selection triggers the specific xml file to load into the list component? I can't get them to communicate to each other.
Why I have to press 2 times the arrow key down to get a navigation through the list items in a list component of Flash?
Theres any workaround for this? I have a listener for keyboard event that checks if keyCode is equal to 40 if it is then I use 'stage.focus = list', but I have to press 2 times key arrow down to start navigating through list items.
I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.
UPDATE: *There will be not any object over another.
*I will not use hitTest on bitmaps because all bitmaps are wrapped in another component,as they,for now are itemrenderers.
Anyway I already begin to do this using a class that extends the SkinnableDataContainer and a custom layout. As the layout is not like a grid, is sparse, random items at diferent points(x, y).How to get the localX and localY, relative to item renderer and not to the Spark List, from a DragEvent in Flex 4?
I have two Lists (components) on stage. The first one (mainList populates from an XML called topics.xml

on event handler change, I want to load the second list on the other list component, called subList..It's not loading.. I believe it's because when it reads the data from my topics list, it reads topic1.xml instead of "topic1.xml" ( reads without the quotes). If I unquote line v.list.load("subtopic.xml"), it works, but I need it to be loaded from the XML..
I will have to explain this in steps. I have a flash website, inside it I have the content on frame 2 (frame 1 = preloader) from there I have a content_mc which holds my pages. I have a home page (frame labeled home) which inside displays the home_mc. In here I have inserted a flvPlayback component. Here's where the problem is. I have moved a stop and volume component on it as wel which has automatically linked up (which is nice). But I would like when I click the stop button, the video disappears. The videoPlayback is called "introVid", the instance name is "vid", and is residing within the "home" mc.
I know the code is something like: this.visible = false; or movieclip(root).home.vid/introVid.visible = false; or I have also seen people using visibility = false...
However I cannot find out how to link this with the flvPlayback Stop button component. Inside the button all I can find is: The 4 button states, some code on stop button itself: stop(); this.upLinkageID="StopButtonNormal"; this.overLinkageID="StopButtonOver"; this.downLinkageID="StopButtonDown"; this.disabledLinkageID="StopButtonDisabled";
I require to put my actionscript on the press or release, but I cannot find out to do this, I assume the code at the moment is calling a "flash component class" which holds the actions for "stopButtonDown" or something, I did have a go at manually creating a mc and a button, and making that stop the flvPlayback, and hiding the movieClip, but with no luck.
I want to make a drop down list menu which open when mouse-over not click as you can see I use
<sropDownList id="dl" rollOver="dl.openDropDown()" but the problem appears when I try to close it.I can't use this rollOut="dl.CloseDropDown()" because It will close too soon(When It open I've tried to move my mouse down to the sub-item but the list will close if I move to somewhere else that's not a list base so I can't select the item on the list because it close before I can)
I'm loading an external SWF("slides.swf") into a AS3 UILoader component on the main stage with an instance name of "loadWindow" when the user clicks a button.I'm also monitoring "slides.swf" loading with preloader script. When the movie in the UILoader is completely loaded, I want to advance it (the movie within the UILoader) to the next frame. In AS2 it was easy to reference a swf loaded into a movie clip... the nested movie's root took the place of the MC's timeline.

I am currently making an interactive Map, as i rollover to a certain continent, the continent will light up in a yellow highlight, afterward as i click on the continent the box menu will pop up on top of the continent, everything went fine until i browse around inside the box menu( the box menu is bigger than the continent,..wider) cause at one point the cursor will go to a certain area inside the box menu that is not on top of a part of the continent, That's when the yellow highlight went down. I was just wondering how do i make sure the yellow highlight on the continent stays on while i freely browse around the box menu( which is wider than the continent)

Apparently when you give the button component a rollOver function it eliminates the it's own rollOver state... it's as if your rollOver function now overwrite the buttons...
