I need to load an XML file in to a list box. It has a USERNAME, USERID, and MEMBERTYPE. The username is the label, the userid and membertype are the data.
The XML file can be constructed however is easiest/best. This is being used as the userlist for a chat room.
I have a combobox and list component on the stage. The combobox has 3 selections. How do I get it so that each selection triggers the specific xml file to load into the list component? I can't get them to communicate to each other.

I build a flash video player which works fine when exported to swf. However when I publish it (F12) does not loading the xml file. As a result video player stuck to frame 2 (where presented a List with video titles and with click on title plays the specific video). The xml link does not ends to .xml. Here is my code about xml loading. I try to change the Flash Player from 10.2 to 9 but I have the same problem.In addition some buttons in frame 2 does not works I suppose because of "Stuck" from xml loading.( Work fine when exported in swf!) I have a TextArea and a DataGrid. I've populated the DataGrid with a list of text files in a directory. Now I'm trying to load the selected file into the TextArea. I'm getting a null pointer exception when selecting a file from the list, which tells me I'm not accessing it right...I think.

I have built an MP3 player using XML and this works fine. But I want this MP3 player to load a random song from the XML list everytime it runs.

I am trying to use a list box to show a list of items, and load different images as referenced in the XML when the user changes the selection in the list box. I have the list box created, and have written out a text area to make sure the data is coming through OK when selection changes, but when I pass the image URL to the loader, it doesn't work, but no errors are thrown. I get a good path to the image from the bInput variable below, but when I add that to the loader1 loader variable, I just get [object Loader] from the trace.

I'm trying to load a bunch of external swfs into a tile list. Once the swfs have been loaded I'm adding them to a dataprovider which I then sort and add to the tilelist. Like so:

It works fine except that the way I'm doing it I have to add a bunch of functions to each swf to know which one is loaded and pass the correct info to the dataprovider.Is there another way to tell which swf has been loaded? Something like this.URLRequest. If I could tell something about it I could compare that to my original xml and find out all the other information I need for my dataprovider.

"page.swf" is nice working SWF file that load list.xml & picture.jpg. I stored those files on folder data. I create another SWF called "index.swf" and i stored it outside folder data. When i try to load "page.swf" locally using Loader Class from "index.swf", the compiler errors said "can't load list.xml & picture.jpg". Because index.swf searched in it's directory not in folder data.
View 4 RepliesI'm creating a facebook application in flex. I'm actually working on the friends component that shows your friends who are using the application. now, each friend has a profile image.
I created the component using a s:List element.
In the Skin Class of the element i configured the requestedColumnCount to 3, which means it shows 3 friends. i added buttons to scroll left and right in the list.
Whenever I scroll to see a different friend, for a half of a second i see no image because the List component is loading the image in order to view it.
is there a way to make the list preload all the elements so i won't have this kind of problem ?
I'm using flex 4.1 to write an application. i read in the documents that has the rowCount property to set how many items to display. the does not have that property. how can I limit the list to display 3 items ?

I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. I assumed this was the object containing all of my list items but the only members of this MC I can see (when tracing them out) are 'setRGB' and 'searchKey'.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

I want to add a SimpleButton to a list item in a list component. I am getting the CellRenderer for the list item I want and using the addChild method to add the simple button. The button appears in the right spot on the list item but it doesn't function like a button. It's like the contents of the buttons first frame is added to the CellRenderer and nothing else.

Theres any workaround for this? I have a listener for keyboard event that checks if keyCode is equal to 40 if it is then I use 'stage.focus = list', but I have to press 2 times key arrow down to start navigating through list items.
I'm trying to animate a list as I delete the top row. All the examples I can find use itemsChangeEffect to bind to the effect, but this property exists only in MX lists, not spark lists.
Any idea how I can get the same effect done in Spark Lists?
I'm trying to remove the top most item in the list with a slight fade out effect before the rest of the items move up to replace the gap.
