I have a swf that connects to Flash Media Server. What I am looking to do, is display the connection status via a green (connected) or red (not connected) icon. I need it to check frequently and update the icon according to the connection status.
I have the following code but it does not work. I have a connect/disconnect button which starts/stops my connection to FMS. That works, but when I unplug my internet connection (thereby making it impossible to be connected to FMS), it still says it is.
I tried to search the forum for this problem but my browser every time got too busy to load the search results, so i thought I'll ask it in a new thread.I've made a Chat in Flash CS4 with AS3 - PHP - MySQL.I set a timer to check if there are new entries in the database once in every second. This way the chat window is refreshed every second. Works fine.But I think, if (let's say) 100 people are chatting, the server is bombed by 200 queries (1 for the message and 1 to find who sent it by userid) a second.Is there a way to periodically check the database if there are new entries without making queries? So Flash will ask for new data only if there IS new data available.
I want to make a small application that reads an RSS feed.However, this will be part of an installation, thus this is supposed to run "forever". Do you think there is another way than using the Timer class, that would check for new posts on the feed every 15 minutes for example? Do you think this will be a reliable and safe approach?[and an extra questionFor that purpose, is it worth to make an AIR app, or just an executable from the flash player? Do I have some pros/cons regarding memory, resources, etc when using AIR?
I have a typical web application that communicates in the following way: SWF file makes service calls to Java services (Remote object, over BlazeDS on Tomcat), which in turn communicates to database.
How do I implement a status check service (hosted on another domain) that will check if the ENTIRE app is up and running? Ideally, I'd make checker SWF that would load App SWF and called its function that would return something from the database (a naive service would count rows in table and hash it with MD5), but security constrains won't let me call loaded SWF's function.
Checking the java services only is not enough, as I am not checking the status of the SWF.
In a setup like this is it possible to check the cumulative status of all onLoadInit?
for(var i:Number = 0; i < limit; i++) { var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); var mclListener:Object = new Object(); mclListener.onLoadInit = function(mc:MovieClip) {
[Code]....
Initially I was thinking that I could pass an array of Boolean's, but I'm not really sure where to add that checkpoint, because a flash frame doesn't keep looping. Would I have to add it to an onEnterFrame()?
how to check a network connection status with flash?
If XMLSocket.connect returns a value of true, the initial stage of the connection process is successful; later, the XMLSocket.onConnect method is invoked to determine whether the final connection succeeded or failed. If XMLSocket.connect returns false, a connection could not be established.
Example
The following example uses XMLSocket.connect to connect to the host where the movie resides, and uses trace to display the return value indicating the success or failure of the connection.
function myOnConnect(success) { if (success) { trace ("Connection succeeded!")
I've an empty movie clip on the stage and an external swf is loaded to that movieclip. How can I check the external movie's frames are completely loaded or not from the base movie. Is it possible by targetting the empty movieclip?
I am using the following code to Pause, Fade-in & Play a streaming Mp3 from an external site:[code]The problem is that this file is never-ending and ultimately slows the computer WAY down. I'm assuming this has to do with the cache filling up with the never-ending Mp3 file.Does anyone know a way to periodically dump the Cache or... limit the amount of the file loaded into the Cache? Say 3-5 SecondsI am assuming a "DO NOT CACHE" code won't work as the Mp3 is streaming and requires a certain amount for uninterrupted play.
I'm using Flash CS4 and Actionscript 2 and would like to know if it's possible to call an external script (php script) or take some kind of action (like update a database, write to a file etc) at regular intervals while a video is playing?
1. Is video playing?
2. If yes and time is more than 5 mins (or some inteval) then call a script
I will be trying to obtain data from a periodically updated xml file. As far as I know, this file will simply continue to have data added to it indefinatly. Is there a way to load only the newly added data to the xml object? As opposed to loading the entire xml file each time I want to update my flash movie with new data added to the xml file?
I run through the process of making code for a whole scene without compiling periodically I overlook where a child is added to and try to remove it from somewhere else. However, I dont believe this to be the case on this occasion. I have only two funcytion that deal with the addition and removeal of the children of the mc that is throwing me errors. If I add the simple:Code: Select allif (holder.contains(thisChild)) {It stops the error but doesn't fix my actual problem...
Code: Select alloverride public function unLoad():void { for (var i:int = 0; i < currentDeck.length; i++) { currentDeck[i].removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clicked);
See [URL] Now there is a button called Answera, which when clicked should have a symbol (movie clip) called Check appear at the cordinated specified. Check exists in the libary (but does not have an instance name) and no where else on the stage. when I run this code I get: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Check. -> var rightCheck = new Check(); How is it undefinded if it exists in the libary?
The following is my codes. This is still work in progress; so, you will see some functions with empty contents. Plus, this is my first Flex application; please bear with me. This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?
I want to serialize an object to AMF, and I want the result to be exactly the same as if it is serialized by NetConnection.call(). So, I use ByteArray.writeObject(), and the output bytes are usually the same as bytes sent by NetConnection.call(), but sometimes couple of bytes are different.
I found this in AMF3 spec: "Note that ByteArray.writeObject uses one version of AMF to encode the entire object. Unlike NetConnection, ByteArray does not start out in AMF 0 and switch to AMF 3 (with the objectEncoding property set to AMF 3)." It explains that differences.
This code is on the opening frame of one of my Flash files:
Code: var myConnection:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); myConnection.connect("rtmp://fvss.playstream.com/fvssod/myclient"); var myStream:NetStream = new NetStream(myConnection); myVideo.attachVideo(myStream); myStream.play("iLoveLALong");
It starts this song "iLoveLALong" as background music. Works great. But now I need to turn the music off when I jump to another frame in the Flash doc. Can anyone suggest code that will do that, either with frame code or button code?
I need to have my url displayed in the bottom of internet explorer. so when I create a link in flash to an external site it displays link on the bottom of IE link any html page links do. Is this possible to do threw actionscript or would i have to shoot it out to a external java script to make it display down there?
I am connecting to a Java game server via an XMLSocket and serving the crossdomain.xml policy file via loadPolicyFile(). The problem is, the thing either works, or it doesn't Is there any way I can get any status information back from loadPolicyFile() ?file didn't load, file is invalid, anything. Is there a way to attach an onLoad handler to this? The documentation claims that this thing will wait for a response before it attempts any connections.

I'm writing an audio recorder in AS3.In AS2, when I loaded up the swf object, the "Camera and Microphone Access" window would pop up immediately. ("Requesting access to your camera and microphone .. allow").However, in AS3, it still works, but there is a noticeable 2-3 second delay before that window pops up.
I should probably be refrencing a book rather than continueing to ask questions here but there are no books for AS 3.0 and flash media server. So this forum is my book i suppose any way here is what i have...I have 2 .as files one holding code for a netConnection and one for creating the netStream my problem is i need to pass the netConnection refrence from the netConnection.as file to the netstream....here is my failed attempt to do so I also get the following error message..ArgumentError: Error #2126: NetConnection object must be connected.
Is it possible to do a fileref.upload through a NetConnection, so I can call a class inside my php instead of a direct URL to my php file? now I have it like this fileRef.upload(new URLRequest("upload.php")); but I want to get it into a call function..
Is it possible to use the flash.net.NetConnection object to connect to my Flash remoting enabled web application over HTTPS within Tomcat or any other servlet container?
I am using the SpiceFactory cinnamon project for amf remoting and have searched for examples of using HTTPS but see only the reference to a proxy type in the NetConnection object.
If someone could provide a reference or example that would be awesome. Or if it is not possible using the flash.net.NetConnection object are there any recommendations of how to configure HTTPS for the spicefactory cinnamon library.
I have to replace the mx:VideoDisplay component in an existing Flex project with a custom made component. To achieve this, I have to conform to its current Interface, so my component receives the video urls (via source parameter) in the form of either: /data/myflvfile.flv (if the file is played locally) rtmp://streamcloud.myserver.com/cfx/st/somedirectory/myflvfile.flv (if the file is streamed from Cloudfront)
My new component is based on NetConnection and NetStream. With any of the entries above I have to split the input in two strings: one for the NetConnection.connect(NetConnectionStr) method and the other for the NetStream.play(NetStreamStr) method. For instance:
Building the two strings is very obvious for the "local files" case, but it gets tricky in the others. The problem is that I have no smart way to guess what part of the input is the server URL and what part is the stream name + directory structure. In some examples found on the Internet, people are simply guessing that the last part of the source (what is after the last "/" found) is the NetStream name. In my case, this is not always true because the streams may be in subdirectories on the server. It is even worse because server names may contain "/" characters!
Strategies to solve it: Connecting to server, retrieving its real URL, finding stream name As NetConnection seems to be "smart" enough, my first attempt was to invoke connect method with the full source url. Unfortunately, I found no way to get the real server address out of a NetConnection object (connection.uri returns back the exact input). So this seems to be a dead end. Connecting to server, iteratively retrieving streams. Another strategy could be to connect to the server and then try iteratively (starting from the very end) to play streams until it works:
I have a flex business application and need to create some control that will show a small picture symbol of given user's MSN messenger status (online, away etc.)
Alternatively, how to insert an html page inside flex form?
There is a HTML code snippet on MSN site (supposed to be) doing exactly what I want, here it is:
[Code].....
Also I'll need to replace eb892994c712bb83 in this snippet with user's cid code.
I'm trying to learn how to get my own facebook & twitter wall status into flash so that I can export it out and install it in my iPhone.After reading the facebook and twitter API documentation, I'm still very confussed on how to use them.
