ActionScript 3.0 :: Playing Movie Clip Backward Using Buttons?
Jan 5, 2012
Im trying to create a series of images that scroll acoss the page left and right using arrows at either side of the stage. The arrows use mouse over events to play a movie clip of the images foward and backward. There are a few issues I am having. I have a mouse over and mouse out events in place to start and stop the clip on to different buttons. However when playing the clip backward with my current script the mouse out doesnt do anything so the clip just keeps playing backward to the beggining. Once this has happened neither button then does anything.Another issue is once the clip has played foward once in total and I mouse over the same arrow button again it flicks back to the begginging of the clip.[code]
I want to create a button, which Fades in a Text Box (like a speech Bubble) when you hover over the button and then fades out when the mouse cursor comes off the button? It sounds simple but I cant seem to figure out how to do it?
well what i am trying to do is move between 2 text boxes through a motion tween. but thats not going to work because you can't tween backwards. so what would be the best thing to do?
this has probably been posted before but i have no idea where it is. i tried the sliding menu tute but that didn't work.

I've got an infographic I'm working on, and every time I roll over an image (a ring) the alpha goes up to 100, then I roll out and it goes back to 50. That much I'm good with.
Then, I click on each one of them, and a movie clip (built inside of each ring/button) pops up and plays. Fair enough.
I've got a script (ugly, but it works!) that will hide all other buttons while this movie clip is playing. But, when I click to close it, I can't figure out a way to make them reappear. I tried putting visible = true again for all of them, but no dice.
The actionscript for it is right below.
I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to make it modal in AS3 or something like that. Or should I go ahead and set it up in a parent/child kind of way (not too well-versed in that regard.
All the buttons to click on are in the same layer and I'm not sure if making them different layers in Flash would make any difference.
stop(); ring1926.movie1926.visible = false; // add a rollover to make the inside movieclip appear
I usually use the following code to play a MC forward and backward using two different button clicks:
ActionScript Code: var rewindMe:Boolean=false; vid_mc.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, everyFrame);
[code]....
The problem I'm running into is that, this time, the movieclip has an embedded FLV inside of it. When I click the backward_btn, it is slow - really slow. Is there any other way to look at this?
here is my issue, so i have a main page with a slideOut movieclip which basically is a movie clip button and the "over" state sends a tray out of the movie clip with info and anothe rmovie clip button. i cant seem to get that movie clip button to root.gotoAndPlay("frameLabel");i have the actionscript on the same frame as the movie clip i need to act as a button. but it just doesnt seem to react to it.i have tried going to the main timeline and doing
I am trying to place buttons inside a movie clip to control the timeline of the same movie clip. This does not seam to work like buttons on the main timeline. When I play the movie the cursor does not turn into a hand and the rolloever affects only sort of work. I have read about controling the movie clip with buttons on the main timeline, but I need one of the buttons to change halfway through the movieclip. I want to be able to jump to interior shots while in the exterior section and vice versa. It would seem that button would work the same way inside a movie clip as they do on the main timeline, but that does not appear to be the case. I am using CS3. Action scrip 2.0 is selected, but I could change it to 3.0 if it would make a difference.
I'm trying to make a flash website that has clickable buttons that will play different movie clips. But I dont know how to make it to just play the movie clip with the button you click without playing all the movie clips on the main timeline.
I have a movie clip with 15 frames. Each frame has buttons on it (mc's)... I was going to put the actions on the main timeline/stage and navigate within the MC from the main timeline. Is that possible? I can get the buttons on the first frame of the MC to work, but I can't seem to figure out how to target/make the buttons on the other frames work? I was thinking I could identify the path of the MC with the frame labels, but that doesn't seem to work. like: _root.RMChanger.(frame label).buttonOnFrame = function
I have to move a text box in and out over the MC backgrounds on the main stage... which is why I was thinking to do it this way? I've been switching back and forth bwtween AS2.0 and 3.0
I am creating a navigation bar in Flash (which will then be used in Dreamweaver). When you mouse over each topic in menu (ex. Products), i want it play a movie clip (so it shoots out a sub-menu underneath). so far so good, but the only thing is, the sub-menu won't stay open in order for me to click on buttons in it. For each button, I assigned it the Behavior to go to a url. Also, I tested the buttons within the mc and they don't seem to direct me to url. do you think maybe it's because it's nested within the movie clip?? Is there an easier way to go about this?
I need to know how to make two buttons: Back and Forward for move forward 24 frames or backwards 24 frames. Also I need to make a Rewind button, how I do that?
I have very annoying and easy (I believe) problem with Macromedia Flash 8. My movie consists of 10 scenes. I wanted them to be played each after another (e.g. scene 1, scene 2, etc.).However, the scenes that consist of movie clips are just flashing and movie proceed to next scene. There is no problem with scenes that where done just in main timeline. I tried to put some action script on these movie clips like:
I have a movie clip (that includes a preloader and video elerments) that I created and made a .swf file from which I then imported in my main movie. I then place this .swf file (which is listed as a movie clip symbol in the library) onto the main timeline. I put an action to stop the main timeline at the frame where the nested movie is placed and expected to start. When previewing the movie, the nested movie doesn't play. I see the preloader (in scene 1 of the nested movie) appears for a second but the movie doesn't play.
Any specific action command needs to be define to make the nested movie play?
I have a game engine and when the player moves right, I just have a static graphic of a box with a right facing arrow. The player is a movie clip with an instance name of "char" on the main stage, inside of it is a bunch of frames with the player in different positions (ie box with up arrow, box with left arrow, etc). So when the right arrow key is pressed then "char" will go to and stop at frame 1 with the right facing arrow.
Here is my problem: When I replace this graphic of a box and arrow with another movie clip of an animation, the animation doesn't play on run time, it will just show me the first frame of the animation inside the movie clip but it won't play the rest of the movie clip. What is stopping this animation from playing?
I have a problem with my loaded movie clip, its playing very fast than its suppose to, (using loadMovie) I've tried to adjust the frame rate of the main file and the movie file, but still the problem occurs....
I have some movie clips nested and at some point one on the left side should call one on the right side and it's not working and I'm pulling my hair, and I'm opening this thread for therapeutic purposes, I'm so angry I can't see straight
and it doesn't work and I don't know why, as I have a root who has a frame with a pages_mc that has a frame with cpr_mc that has a frame with charr_mc that has a frame with right_mc and there is a label 'Sidney'well, that's all. I don't even know flash very well, but looks to me that logically I'm doing it right, but flashly I'm doing it wrong...
I'm trying to play the timeline forward or backwards by either pressing and dragging left or pressing and dragging right. I can't figure this out.
I have been using instances of buttons to do this but I don't want to use buttons I just want to be able to press anywhere on the screen and weather I drag left or right the movie plays, if I stop pressing the movie stops playing on its current frame.
This is probably an easy question, but I fairly new at this. How do you let a movie clip play once then stop it on its last frame? I've noticed that you can't use AS on a movie clip frame like you can in the parent timeline. That's what I was trying to do.
EDIT:I figured it out. I just wasn't setting the parameters. I'm going to have a hard time with AS3 LOL
I'm trying to load an external mp3 into my swf and then get my movie clip to play once the mp3 is fully loaded. This is the code I have in my first frame:
stop(); cyfan = new Sound(this); cyfan.onLoad = function(true) { if (true) {
I have this movie clip that is a vertical menu. the menu has a left and right button on either side and several small thumbnails inside. when you click on the right arrow, the animation plays, which just slides the thumbs along using a tween. I'm trying to get the left button to play the reverse of the animation.
this is the swf here to have a look. i hope you get the idea of what I'm trying to do.
I've been looking for a tutorial on how to do this through action script, but haven't found it yet. how can i do this so it's more efficient or through action script 2.0?
I did do the scroll tutorial before, but I would like it to go from one thumb to the next one at a time. You can also see that the animation I'm doing now is causing the left arrow to play each time.
