ActionScript 3.0 :: Reference Ground MovieClip Through Out Game?

Nov 2, 2011

I have three movieclips in my library (Ground1, Ground2, Ground3). Depending on the game level I want to use a different one but I reference the ground movieclip through out the game. How can I declare the variable (i.e.
var ground:Ground1

So I can set ground to a different library clip like this:
if(level == 1){
ground = new Ground1();
} if(level == 2){
ground = new Ground2();
} if(level == 3){
ground = new Ground1();
} ground.scaleX = 10;
ground.scaleY = 10;
worldSprite.addChild(ground);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Platform Game Fall To Ground Function?

Feb 16, 2010

I have gotten to a point with my platform game where I am completely stuck. I have the player movement working fine but the only thing is, it doesn't fall off the blocks.

I have a Floor class which references the Character class and tells it to stop jumping when it is on a block through a hitTestObject. I have tried to research how other games have added functions but can't seem to find one which will work in mine.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Make A Reference To A Movieclip Instance That Is In Another Movieclip?

Jul 17, 2011

I am trying to make a reference to a movieclip instance that is in another movieclip.

Here's the deal: I have a main timeline for different pages of a website...then within that I make all of the art on each page into a movieclip so I can do animations every time that main timeline frame is called to, yet still keep my main timeline clean.

Within one page's movieclip I have a few buttons that I want to use to go to other pages by referencing them on the main timeline.I have been using this: (home_about is the about us button on my home page, and frame 31 is on the main timeline).

home_about.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToAndPlayFromFrame_6);
function fl_ClickToGoToAndPlayFromFrame_6(event:MouseEvent) :void
{[code].............

Since this home_about is within another movieclip,I get the access of undefined property error. Do I need to change the code I've pasted above or add in variable definitions to fix this?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create An Inventory For An Adventure Game - Getting Error #1009: Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object Reference?

Jan 17, 2010

Im trying to create an inventory for an adventure game (escape the room esque interface).Basically I have an array inventory system - you click on an object that is listed in the array,it moves the item off the main screen and into your inventory (bottom of the screen) and resizes it. Then you can use the object as an inventory object.This is fine on frame one (where all the items are at the moment).But when you move to another frame and then come back to frame one the items are back on the screen in their original position but now non clickable(aswell as being in your inventory working how they should). If i put the items in frame two and no items in frame one I get the following message and the items become unclickable:

Code:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at Inventory/makeInventoryItems()
at InventoryOne

Im guessing the errors are because the items don't exist on all frames but the code does as it is in the games properties as the class type (class Inventory), but i have no idea how to get around it.

Inventory/makeInventoryItems() is the following AS code.

Code:

function makeInventoryItems(arrayOfItems:Array) {
for(var i:int=0;i<arrayOfItems.length;i++) {
arrayOfItems[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, getItem);[code]............

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Multiple Ground Instances Using Arrays

Feb 26, 2011

I'm working on a game engine with a friend of mine, we plan to make it open source so other people can use it too for their own games. We basically have everything done, but I really want to add multiple ground instance support. I would like to use an Array, to call upon all ground layers on the stage, and put it into one call name for my gravity function. So I wouldn't have to have various strings for each ground instance.

Code:
var groundArray:Array = [ground, ground2, ground3];
var groundtile:MovieClip = groundArray[1];
addChild(groundtile);
This is my gravity..
[Code] .....

What I have so far works perfect without arrays.. When I add my above array, I don't get any errors.. but I fall through the ground.

I have tried EVERYTHING and I am not getting an answer on away3D forums.I place objects in 3D space. where the houses start at different y -value and z -value for reasons I dont know so they can look level.IT takes about 30 sec to load but here is my example of the problem . The objects move on the ground when they should not. I am just moving the camera. I dont underatnd how you place objects in 3D space in away3D.Here is the issue with my program after MANY hours of endless fiddling. The y value of the plane. It looks the same with value at -100 or -140 but it works at -140 where it is under all ojects. AT -100 it looks under all objects but doesnt move properly. Objects and the plane (ground) dont seem fixed.

// plane = new Plane({material:mygrass, name:"plane", z: 200,y:-100,x:-100, width:1000, height:1000, pushback:true});

CS3 Play (reference) MovieClip Instance From Within MovieClip

May 20, 2009

I am trying to create an interactive graphic. Basically, it's three squares layered on top of each other, with a large square in back, a medium square centered in the middle of the large square, and a small square in front centered in the middle of the medium square.

When you roll over the medium square, say, it expands to almost the size of the large square and some text fades in, and the small square on top of it fades away. When you roll off of the medium square, it goes back to it's smaller size, and the small square fades back in.

Currently, I have the actionscript in the movieclip to make the medium square get larger and smaller (and the text fade in), but I need to somehow reference the instance of the small square movieclip to hide it when I roll over the medium movieclip.

My actionscript for the medium square activity, currently:

Code:
stop();
this.onEnterFrame = function(){
if(rewind == true){

[Code]....

how to have this rolling over action get rid of the small square and then bring it back on roll out.

Code:

var pagTotal = 8;
for(i=1; i<pagTotal+1; i++){

...and in childB i'm trying to reference one of these created movieclips via "_parent.childA.pagClip01" so on and so forth.

but they dont seem to be working. when i trace the dynamic clip from within childB i keep getting "undefined" in the output. however, I can reference the movieclip from within childA, and even from parentMC no problem.

i've used _root and _level0 absolute paths and still the same failed result.

The ground looks like so: The function I have right now sort-of works, but seems very inefficient. This method seems like it would get slow.
