ActionScript 3.0 :: Refresh Information Hourly,daily,weekly And Monthly?

I have a flash program which uses asp to work with amicrosoft access database and Im trying to find the best way toupdate information at a specific time. I have time and date storedin a record in the database and would like to have the flashprogram update some text when this time and date is reached. Sothis could be hourly,daily,weekly or monthly.Would it be best to use the timer event or is there a betterway to do this? I think the timer event would be useful forrefreshing every hour, however im not so sure about thedaily,weekly and monthly options. If I was to refresh theinformation every week or month, would I leave timer running for awhole month or is there are better way to do it?
I've just come upon an idea, on how people could learn to write AS. Every week there would be announced projects that would have to be written in AS. There could also be levels of difficulty for different people.
After annoucing the task, for instance: "Make a dynamic slide show, that will load files from a XML file, and display them by fading-in / fading-out at some intervals". People could start writing something, and if someone would have any trouble, It could have been answered in the topic. After a week, the best working projects would be selected and added as a opensource, or mayby even converted into tutorials.
I know that my idea was allready made a hundred times, that was just an example. If the idea would pass, there could be a poll, or another topic for project ideas.
I think that it's an idea worth thinking about. I personally would participate in it, just for the challenge.

I'm using a CartesianChart with a DateTimeAxis to display weekly data in a Flex application.When I set dataUnits="weeks" and labelUnits="weeks" on the DateTimeAxis, it automatically places each major tick on a Sunday. However, I would like to provide users with the option of beginning the week on a Sunday or a Monday. How can I ask the DateTimeAxis to instead place the major ticks on a Monday (or some other day of week)?For example, if the user is looking at total sum of something over the week, and requests that weeks start on a Sunday, the Series data would look like:
I'm working with Flash MX 2004. I have a funtional monthly calendar that does not use external variables - all variables are contained within the timeline. I am now trying to control it with external variables using:[code]The InitialMonthVisable variable is used to define which month is visable first using dec=december, jan=january, etc. This is needed because the first month visable will not always be the current month.There is a movieclip on the main timeline with 12 labelled frames (dec, jan, feb, etc) and uses the IntialMonthVisable variable in the first frame:[code]The movieclip then goes and plays the specified month. This works fine when the variable is defined within the movie, but the movieclip does not play the specified month using the external variable.
First time poster and new to the board. I have been asked to solve a difficult problem and am seeking guidance in completing the task. Basically, to give you an overview, I need to build a custom tracker that counts how many clicks per month a particular link(s) is/are hit within a website I built. I used Flash (ActionScript 2.0)and XML to build the website along with pulling in external swf files as needed. I have an idea of how to create the MySQL table using myPHPAdmin. I know I want to build an actionScript class to pull into the core swf that holds a majority of the functionality, and to create a PHP file that will pass the info to the simple MySQL database AND send an email out on the last day of each month with the totals from the database. Then I need to reset the database to 0 for each link that we are tracking on the 1st of every month.
My goal is to make it as reusable as possible in case I am asked to follow any more links within the site for documentation. Does anyone have some good documentation, examples, or reference links to point me towards? I have an idea of what I want to do, but I'd also like some other people's input on how they would possible move forward in completing this task.
I am trying to create a monthly calender that will display highlighted dates when something has been scheduled for that day, and will display a rollout of the scheduled event when the date is clicked.
I have writen enough of the code to get a resizable calender on the screen with current month, year and the days of the week header. how to get the actual days to display with the with schedeuled dates highlighted and clickable.
Does anyone know how to load dynamic content (movies, text, or whatever...) in flash that automatically changes daily, depending on the day of week (mon.-sun.)
I need to display daily text on a movie. like daily quotes or other content like daily thoughts. the files are on a txt file and I found a sample that I like but I can't get it to work, I don't know much action script but kinda mess around untill somehow I get things to work the way they suposed to, but I keep having problems with this one. I would like to create a simple page with two dynamic boxes, one that displays the date and another one that displays the content for that day.
also I have flash 8 and would like this script to run on a pocket pc if possible or flash 6 player.can anyone help me and guide me thru it and tell me the mistakes I have on the file. I've attached the fla and external txt file that will feature quotes.
I had an issue with my index.html testing on IE and the preloader just stalls on "loading 0%". he told me that locally the progress event doesn't have time to load and to try uploading it to your server and see if it works. It worked just fine. Rah Rah Kglad.
So today I'm fine tuning the swf/ fla to clean it up. Reduced some picture sizes and deleted unused files and reduced the swf from 4000 KB to 350 KB Rah Rah Gene. replaced the swf in Dreamweaver and re-uploaded with Filezilla. Rah ah Filezilla.
Everything working great and my preload went from 23 seconds to less than 3. So I'm real happy except for one small issue. Firefox and IE both do this. If I hit the refresh button, it stalls on "loading 0%" once again just like it did locally.
If I hit the refresh several times it WILL refresh randomly....2 times refresh......10 times refresh etc.

Spoke to my hosting company who said everything seems fine on the server. BTW he said Chrome did NOT have this issue Rah Rah Chrome.
I'm kinda noobish when it comes to getting information from XML information sent to my flash file from the socket server. OK so for example the server sends me this:

I want to get the name of the user and the X and Y position! Is there a way I can get this information without a load of fuss from functions and other junk remember im kinda noobish.

I have a fms 3 server runing a video chat room application. It goes well except everyday it will die once or twice. After restarting the fms server, everything goes working again.I checked its log, i saw many "Server rejected an invalid flow."
I would like to point out that I am not an employee of either Comedy Central, The Daily Show or the website. The labels 'Production Assistant' and 'Intern' are just the sites rankings descriptions.There is an assumption by iPad owners, that all Flash websites must be converted to be compatible with the iPad, rather than the iPad should be compatible with existing websites.Is it worth continuing to defend against this assumption? Should we just give in to these people or try to engage them in a discussion, get them to demand Flash support from Apple?

I play games on Pogo and have never had a problem with their Flash Games until released Daily Hot Shots. It doesn't load fully and I've done EVERYTHING I know to do to get it to play. No errors show up. I can play ALL the other flash games but this one. When I right click, the name of the site's owners do not show up....I have the settings showing though Not all of the game loads and that's the problem. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling....tried a different browser and have the same exact problem. THIS GAME WILL NOT PLAY.
I use "loadvars" to get the dynamic info for a flash homepage from a ".txt" file. How can I force browsers to download a fresh copy of ".txt" files every access?
i'm working on a project that uses php and xml to link my database information with flash. I've successfully allowed flash to read the xml contents. I need to randomise the data i retrieved from the database, so my xml content will change everytime i refresh the browser. However, i realised that the flash content didn't change like the xml content. The script to read the xml is written on the 1st frame of my 1st scene. Is there a way to read the xml again everytime i refresh the browser or re-enter the scene?
I have a canvas with its verticalScrollPolicy = "auto" and whenever I reload data into the canvas I want to set the position of the scroll bar back to the top of the page.

The result is that I see the initial frame of the animation mov1 and frame 5. I do not see frames that are played during the loop. I need a refreshing function for frame or movie clip mov1, which could be placed in the loop . Alternatively, a function of pausing the action script to a vertical refres (vsync).
I have a scoreboard in flash which works great, but once go back onto the scores page at the end of the game it adds the text to each field again rather than refreshing the scores/names, therefore each item appears twice in each box..
Is there a correct way to dynamically update the scores each time I access the page ? I've tried creating a loop that sets the value of each text_box.text to ""; once I leave the page but that didn't work !!
I am using a Tab Navigator component in which there are three canvas components. When I click one of the canvas (or tab), a Pie Chart is displayed. Actually what happens is that on-click 1. the canvas sends an HTTPService whose url is set to a php file 2. That php file actually gets information from a database. Based on that information an xml file is created 3. Fusion Chart uses that xml file to display a pie chart
The database is being updated after some time. Is there any way the Pie Chart may get updated after every 3 minutes to reflect the modifications in the database? or Can I send the particular HTTPService again and again after every 3 minutes 'in background'? or Is there any good way to update the information in a particular canvas (or tab) of Tab Navigator?
In my flash application i have a button which should reload the webpage in which the flash application resides. However i don't know the code yet to be able to refresh the webpage when the button is pressed
