Jul 9, 2003I use "loadvars" to get the dynamic info for a flash homepage from a ".txt" file. How can I force browsers to download a fresh copy of ".txt" files every access?

Sep 17, 2010I'm using a .png Menu/Sub Menu from FireWorks to go to a particular swf file and then to an anchor within the swf file.But when I click on the same menu item and different sub menu item it doesn't go to another anchor within the same swf file. If I navigate away and then click fresh on the link that didnt work, it works.It seems to think it's at the right place and ignores the link.

I have a Flash app that uploads an xml file using URLLoader() and URLRequest(). But this file gets overwritten every 10-30 minutes with fresh data. The only way I've found so far to view changes in the xml data is to refresh my web page (F5 or Ctrl-->F5). Short of turning to Javascript, isn't there some way for Flash to refresh its xml data?

Apr 6, 2010I have item renderers in an mx.controls.Tree that I need to refresh on demand.
I have code in the updateDisplayList that fires for only some of the visible nodes no matter what I do. I've tried triggering a change that they should all be listening for; I have tried clearing and resetting the dataProvider and the itemRenderer properties.

The nodes refresh properly when I scroll them into view (e.g. the .data gets set), but I cannot force the ones that already exist to refresh or reset themselves.

Jan 28, 2011I'm attempting to take a process that previously ran multiple remote object calls in parallel and make them run in serial.I know it's a hackish approach (bandaid!), but so far my approach has been to take this for-loop that started each parallel request:[code]Where _pause_queue is a private global boolean for the class. In the fault-handler and response-handler functions, it is set back to false, so that the infinite where-loop is released and the for loop will continue.This is functional, but the UI only updates after the while-loop ends, which causes the negative side effect that it looks like the application is hung while waiting for a response.
Is there something I can put inside the while loop to allow flash to update the display? In VB (ugh!) I would use DoEvents, but I don't know of an equivalent for Actionscript.Alternately, is there a way to add a simple queueing system short of completely rewriting the application? This is legacy code and I'm on a tight deadline so I'd like to modify it as little as possible. (Otherwise I would rewrite it from the ground up and use Swiz to get the Event Chaining.)

The problem is that I change the XML file every dayand unless a viewer empties their cache, they get the old slides.There is a technique where you add ?mathRandom() code at theend of the XML path inside the .swf file, but from all I have readand believe, this only adds to ones cache and could irresponsiblyfill a viewers cache.Does anyone know a way to use actionscript 3 inside the .swffile to force a reload of the XML file if the browser has beenopened for the first time?

Sep 30, 2010I had an issue with my index.html testing on IE and the preloader just stalls on "loading 0%". he told me that locally the progress event doesn't have time to load and to try uploading it to your server and see if it works. It worked just fine. Rah Rah Kglad.
So today I'm fine tuning the swf/ fla to clean it up. Reduced some picture sizes and deleted unused files and reduced the swf from 4000 KB to 350 KB Rah Rah Gene. replaced the swf in Dreamweaver and re-uploaded with Filezilla. Rah ah Filezilla.
Everything working great and my preload went from 23 seconds to less than 3. So I'm real happy except for one small issue. Firefox and IE both do this. If I hit the refresh button, it stalls on "loading 0%" once again just like it did locally.
If I hit the refresh several times it WILL refresh randomly....2 times refresh......10 times refresh etc.

Spoke to my hosting company who said everything seems fine on the server. BTW he said Chrome did NOT have this issue Rah Rah Chrome.

Uploading the data to a PHP server works... well enough I guess. The issue is that when I go to reload the data, the file has been cached, and so I can't load the saved changes.
Is there a way to force flash to reload a file? Or clear it's current cached version?

(it's a site for a band who want their fans to be able to download their music.)A lot of the information I am finding pertains to PHP, which I don't understand. As I use action script 2.0, I am not familiar with much code.[code]but I most be doing something wrong b/c an error always comes up when I check the code.Also, I make a button, give it an instance name, but I don't enter that anywhere in the action script.so I know something has to be wrong, b/c the only thing I do is create a zip file, name it and enter it in the action script.

Feb 25, 2010I'm working with Collada files and I need them to be a certain size. When instantiating them in pv3d you set the filename, materials, and scale. Scale works like a percentage, and there's no way to get the width, height, or depth of the DAE once in flash. I want to be able to specify the size of DAE in 3D space relative to other pv3d native geometry.

Dec 3, 2010I updated the flash library XML/SWF (chart library) to the latest version on my web application but the users still see the charts with the old library which is saved in there browser cache.How can I force the browsers of my users to download the latest version of the SWF files.I can't add a parameter at the end of the SWF file like : charts.swf?v=1234.
If I do that I get an error because the chart library load dynamically other SWF files of the library. The charts.swf file will be the new version but the other files will still be from the older version and I will get an error...

May 24, 2007I make a swf for my site that includes dynamicly loading thumbnails from an xml file. Unfotunatly the browser ( IE and FF are what i have tried so far ) just takes the xml file from the clients browser cache even if i have changed the xml file on the server. So the only way my visitors will see my updated content, is if they clear their cache every time before they visit my site. ( even a ctrl-f5 does not seem to do the trick )
is there a function or something i can call to force the swf to re-download the xml file every time? (is really small, less that a kilobyte or two im sure.)
Flex :: Calling Refresh On A The Application Container From An .as File
Jun 7, 2011I've inherited an application and am fixing a bug. There is a refresh button in a the application's mxml file and it has a click="refresh(null)". This works.
However we also want to do a refresh every five minutes automatically using a timer. There is code in an .as file (that is sourced' into the above mxml file) that uses a Timer and calls refresh(null) from within the .as file, but this doesn't seem to do anything.
Is this the right way to do this? Or do we need to explicitly reference the object we want to refresh? If so, how do we do that?

This ascript reads an external xml file and picks up the tracklist names for current playing and previous playing songs on my radio station website. It works and looks perfectly fine but i need this to refresh every 30 seconds to read the dynamic xml file and update flash.

Feb 16, 2010I am working on a prototype or proof of concept for my company to adopt Flash as an alternative rather than conventional HTML. I've created my demo XML file locally and followed instructions on a YouTube video (yeah I'm that new) and it all works as it should. The problem is this... I have been looking literrally for hours for a way to get my Flash file to update when the XML gets changed. Either on the fly or via some sort of timer/auto-refresh. I simply cannot wrap my head around it.
