ActionScript 3.0 :: Variables Kept In Memory / Cookies

Sep 1, 2009

I have a swf that connects to a server through an as file, which appears to be holding some variables in memory or something so that it works fine the first time it loads, but when I load the page again, either the browser or the player is not clearing out the previous values. I don't know if there is a way to make sure that the swf when it loads makes sure not to keep the values held in the cache.  It actually appears that the only way around my problem is to clear the cookies for my site and then reload.url...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Force Flash To Refresh Its Xml Data?

Oct 24, 2008

How do you force Flash to refresh its xml data?

I have a Flash app that uploads an xml file using URLLoader() and URLRequest(). But this file gets overwritten every 10-30 minutes with fresh data. The only way I've found so far to view changes in the xml data is to refresh my web page (F5 or Ctrl-->F5). Short of turning to Javascript, isn't there some way for Flash to refresh its xml data?

Flex :: Force All Tree Itemrenderers To Refresh?

Apr 6, 2010

I have item renderers in an mx.controls.Tree that I need to refresh on demand.

I have code in the updateDisplayList that fires for only some of the visible nodes no matter what I do. I've tried triggering a change that they should all be listening for; I have tried clearing and resetting the dataProvider and the itemRenderer properties.

private function forceCategoryTreeRefresh(event : Event = null) : void
{
trace("forceCategoryTreeRefresh");

[Code]....

The nodes refresh properly when I scroll them into view (e.g. the .data gets set), but I cannot force the ones that already exist to refresh or reset themselves.

Actionscript :: Simple Event Chaining / How ToI Force A Display Refresh

Jan 28, 2011

I'm attempting to take a process that previously ran multiple remote object calls in parallel and make them run in serial.I know it's a hackish approach (bandaid!), but so far my approach has been to take this for-loop that started each parallel request:[code]Where _pause_queue is a private global boolean for the class. In the fault-handler and response-handler functions, it is set back to false, so that the infinite where-loop is released and the for loop will continue.This is functional, but the UI only updates after the while-loop ends, which causes the negative side effect that it looks like the application is hung while waiting for a response.

Is there something I can put inside the while loop to allow flash to update the display? In VB (ugh!) I would use DoEvents, but I don't know of an equivalent for Actionscript.Alternately, is there a way to add a simple queueing system short of completely rewriting the application? This is legacy code and I'm on a tight deadline so I'd like to modify it as little as possible. (Otherwise I would rewrite it from the ground up and use Swiz to get the Event Chaining.)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Image Refresh Doesn't Free Memory?

May 14, 2008

[URL]

The movie loads in an external image and refreshes it every second. What happens, though, is the previous image seems to stay in memory. Eventually the browser will hang, because the memory footprint of the flash movie is so large. Even while testing outside the browser, I can see the memory increase by a couple hundred KB every second. You can see it at [URL]

The code I'm using is below (don't make fun, I don't claim to be a programmer).

Code:
function refresh_url(event:TimerEvent){
var url:String = "http://www.live-photo.com/asheville-east.jpg?ID="+getTimer();
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);

Professional :: Refresh Button Does Not Refresh Flash Website

Sep 30, 2010

I had an issue with my index.html testing on IE and the preloader just stalls on "loading 0%". he told me that locally the progress event doesn't have time to load and to try uploading it to your server and see if it works. It worked just fine. Rah Rah Kglad.

So today I'm fine tuning the swf/ fla to clean it up. Reduced some picture sizes and deleted unused files and reduced the swf from 4000 KB to 350 KB Rah Rah Gene. replaced the swf in Dreamweaver and re-uploaded with Filezilla. Rah ah Filezilla.

Everything working great and my preload went from 23 seconds to less than 3. So I'm real happy except for one small issue. Firefox and IE both do this. If I hit the refresh button, it stalls on "loading 0%" once again just like it did locally.

If I hit the refresh several times it WILL refresh randomly....2 times refresh......10 times refresh etc.

Spoke to my hosting company who said everything seems fine on the server. BTW he said Chrome did NOT have this issue Rah Rah Chrome.

Actionscript 3 :: AIR SocketServer Cleanup? How To Close When App Quits?

I have a simple AIR app that listens on a socket using the SocketServer class.I have the following code when I first start up the app:

if( serverSocket.bound )
{
serverSocket.close();[code]....

However I find that if I try to test my movie after making some quick changes, I can't bind to the same address:port. I'm guessing that somehow that the port is still occupied. I get a "Operation attempted on invalid socket" error.But if I wait a bit and then test my movie, I can bind to the address:port. The close() is not taking affect. Can I try to close() this when the user decides to exit the app? Is there some sort of event that allows me to do something before the app quits?

A project I'm working on is working just fine at first, but as I perform more actions, it slows down noticeably. I've made sure to clear any onEnterFrame and setInterval events, so I don't think the problem lies there. Most likely, it's because practically every time an action occurs, much of the content on the screen is redrawn/recreated. However, every time I create a movie clip, text field, shapes, etc., I call a function to remove it beforehand:

Code:
function killThis(mc:MovieClip, thingsName:String):Void{
var obj:Object = mc[thingsName];
if (obj instanceof MovieClip){[code]..........

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Application Cleanup On Unload From Browser

Nov 15, 2011

Generally when you unload an swf from another swf you would follow a cleanup utilzing removed from stage or unload events. But when you exit an as3 flash application by either navigating away from page or reloading the page or closing/removing the application. what is the best practices you would follow to ensure proper cleanup and garbage collection.

Question : what methods in solely as3 code can be used in this regard. It may be argued that once an swf is unloaded or removed its memory foot print can be verified to have decreased eg via the task manager Is this a good enough measure? Or is it advisable to handle the unloading/exiting in a proper manner ?

Javascript :: To Execute Flex Cleanup Function When Browser Is Closed By User?

Oct 29, 2009

I have a Flex client application. I need a clean up function to run in Flex when the user closes the browser. I found the following solution on the net, but it only works half-way for me. How could I fix it?CustomEvent triggered, but not executed. >> EventHandler for CustomEvent.SEND_EVENTS is defined by a Mate EventMap. All the handler does is to call an HTTPServiceInvoker. In debug console, I'm able to see the handler and HTTPServiceInvoker being triggered, but neither the resultHandlers nor the faultHandlers were called. I know this event handler has no problem because when I dispatch the same CustomEvent.SEND_EVENTS in a button click handler, it behaves exactly as I expected)Browser seems to wait for cleanUp function to complete before it closes. (all traces were printed before browser closes down)

Code
I added the following into the index.template.html
window.onbeforeunload = clean_up;
