I'm designing an interface for a class, and the buttons that I am using all have multiple functions.For example, when the story button is clicked, I need the mc to stop playing and change to text (in the same window/screen, just no mc playing). The mc is 31 frames long, but if there's a way to just make it loop continuously until told not to, Currently, my code looks like this:

When I click the button, the mc does not stop playing and the text does not show up.
I have buttons with black text. The buttons (not the text) change colour to red when you rollover them. I can't seem to work out how to get the colour to stay red when it's clicked to show that it's selected. Do I make a duplicate symbol which is already red to replace it when clicked? And I'm also unsure of the actions I'm supposed to use if any??Another thing, when I click on a different button, I don't want the previous button to still be selected.

i want to show when a button has been clicked on (visited), by changing the colour (or just another pictogram). How can i do this? (for an example, go [URL] you see the small icons, once visited, they turn blue). How can i do this? Is it just a simple actionscript?

[URL] The Adobe documentation assumes you are an expert with Flash and there are no clear cut examples of how to even show and hide a darned button, well, I can't find any referrences. I can imagine what I want to do with flash, but getting anything out of it cracks open my brain. Programming is not fair!!! for us graphic artists. Examples of things I want to study are loading images to the stage on a specific event such as "if(enterFrame == x)" ideally I would like the images to load from a directory on the server and ease in the image.
Basically I want to keep it simple yet effective. Alot of the code I see out there is double dutch to me and appears to go in the wrong direction of simplifying things. I can understand the basic fundamentals, but I wish when people post examples like myMC1.visible = true; that they explain that myMC1 is just a name chosen by the writer to look for an item called myMC1 or go the extra step and color code the code BLUE for actual code, RED for names of items given by the writer that exist on the stage etc etc...

I'm a beginner in AS3. I need to pass the inputtext value to text area, with a button. I know is a simple tasks but I'm really desperate cause I just test several ways, including external classes without results. With this code, I can get the value of the button, but I need to get the input text field userName. I suppose that I need to pass the value of input text to String, but I don't how!

View 2 RepliesAll I want to do is make a text button show another symbol? Basically, I have 16 icons which I want to eventually be buttons as well, and I want to show them in two different orders. So I have my two buttons for the different orders, and I have my icons in the orders as two different layers, and I've tried using the code snippets to show the icons but I keep getting an error message and it doesn't work, instead my buttons disappear. I just want to be able to click a button and the order of my icons changes.

I've been working with actionscript 3.0 and have an array that gives me some text and a button on each new page (clicking the button gets me to the next text-page and button). I'd now like my button to not appear on each page immediately, but time delayed, maybe wait 10 seconds or so before it appears.

I have recently created a quiz that allows user to submit score to database, however I only want the submit button to be available if the user scores 100 % (all questions correct). This is the actionscript used on the final summary screen. is there a way to add to this? if userScore = 100 then display submit button, else leave blank.

I want to show/hide a symbol (movie clip) when i mouse over/out another symbol (button) and also want to move the movie clip as motion of mouse by attaching to the mouse... for this.. i think i have to use startDrag action but i am confused how.
if i use action on button like:

where "abc" is instance name of movie clip it will do the work but it doesnt give effect of appearing and dissapearing the movie clip when i mouse over the button.

View 8 RepliesI have been tasked with adding button functionality for a fence companies flash application. Specifically, the buttons will be in a drop down horizontal menu. They will have to display (and hide) certain accessories that will be placed on the fence or are a part of the fence itself. For an example of something similar, please check out the design studio at this site -[URL]. It is the application about halfway down the page and after hitting the APP MENU button, it is the top most option.note that as the fence moves (by scrollers) the accessories always stay with the fence. So, I am guessing that the whole thing is a movieclip and that the buttons are referencing?, showing?, hiding? certain aspects of the movieclip.

As the items are highlighted, the audio will play (to explain the animation). because we are creating this for people with possible disabilities, we also created captions with text for the audio. So, in separate layers, we created speech bubbles and text that is synchronized to the animated actions on the screen. this will also be synchronized with the audio. We want to have a button (close captioning button) that when users press it, they see the text captions and if they press it again, they don't see the text captions. my questions are
1) what will be the easiest way to create the effect i am looking for?
2) what actionscript command will i need for the button's actions?
I have made a bitmap image into a rollover button - reason - so that when the mouse rolls over the hit area of the button/image/thumbnail - it becomes larger on the stage and when the mouse moves outside the paramaters of the larger picture it goes back down to the original button/image/thumbnail size.That works fine.However . . . there is always a however. When I implemented the same functions to the other thumbnails on the stage - if I rollover the second thumbnail- the other thumbnails show up (through) on top of that enlarged image.

I have a introduction page with a video background, and a button that sends the user to another page.I just have one problem, and that's when you see the page online, for a slit of a second, you just see the button on a black background before the video is loaded and starts playing. Not really sure how to go about it.I recon the button should first be visible when the video appears or are loaded..? I have the following AS. "Mybtn" is my button.
