ActionScript 3.0 :: Slice / Break Circle Into Pieces In Actionscript?

May 10, 2010

I'm looking into building a navigation system that revolves around the shape of a circle and each link is a slice of that circle. I could build it graphically and/or in the timeline, but the thing is that I'll have the links pulled from an XML file so it can be 3 or 6, or 9..So any ideas on how to dynamically create a circle and slice it up depending on the number of arguments on an XML file?No need to add the XML part and all that. That I know. I could just use help with the "Create the Sliced Circle" part!

I have recently designed a children's educational game that is completed, however; it is a puzzle and the puzzle pieces can be dropped on top of each other and they hide behind eachother which I do not want to happen. I would like the game pieces to automatically get pushed off to the side of the other puzzle pieces that are in use...not stacked on top of each other. The game is complete except for this one problem.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calculate The Direction And Speed A Circle Has After Colliding With A Static (non-moving) Circle?

Mar 8, 2005

I'm developing a game atm, and I need some help on the mathematics/coding of colliding circles (and their change in x/y speed). What i need to know is how to calculate the direction and speed a circle has after colliding with a static (non-moving) circle. I know how to detect a collision between the two, but I'm not sure about the maths I need to give the circle the right speed and direction after the collision

If i do know how far away the two circle-points (in the middle of each) are to each other (in both x and y coords) would it be easy for me to find the new speed and direction of the large circle in the example above? I know that I somehow should use the angles to pretend the circle hits a flat "wall" (as it only hits one point), and then calculate the new speed/direction. My only problem is that I'm not sure how to decide the angle of this flat "wall" and how x and y speeds should change when colliding with a wall that is angled. Does anyone here have any insight, links or tips on how I can du this?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Circle Circle Frame Independant Collision Reaction?

Apr 10, 2010

Trying to do circle circle collisions via math which I'm really having trouble with. One circle (player) just moves from keyboard. The ball reacts to the player. All the code shown is in my players class and I passed in a reference to the ball.

On my enterframe I have:

Code:
var xmov1 = xSpeed;
var ymov1 = ySpeed;
var xmov2 = ballRef.xSpeed;
var ymov2 = ballRef.ySpeed;

[code]....

Perhaps I'll go with a box2d equivalent instead of trying out my own physics shenanigans.

I'm trying to get the moveable circle to be able to move around the circumference of the stationary circle, but not overlap. I'm able to detect when they overlap, not using hittest. I just can't figure out how to code it so that the draggable circle can't be moved over the stationary circle.

.slice() To Copy An Array?

May 25, 2009

I am trying to use .slice() to copy an Array of Loaders (each with a jpg loaded in it), as follows:

newArray = oldArray.slice();

and it works, but the problem is, any changes I apply to one Array applies to both, as though .slice() had just copied a pointer to the same Array, but I was specifically told that .slice() would not exhibit that pblm. Before I just go back to loading the same images twice, is there something special about Arrays of Loaders or something else I might be missing?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Slice() Does Not Seem To Be Working?

Oct 12, 2010

I am trying to use slice to remove an element of an array and it does not seem to be working.I have an array in a class called singleton.   It is global and persistent and once instantiated I just get the instance of it

_singletonInstance = Singleton.getInstance();

I also have another class I instantiate when I need to add or remove an element from that array in the singleton object.I can add to the array when I call this function:

public function add():void
{
_singletonInstance.noDropList.push(_elementToAdd);[code]....

Since the TimeCell0_mc_25 is index 4 it should be removed in the second list after add. but as you can see it is still there.
