Mar 18, 2010I'm writing an application using a DataGrid DG1 in a MovieClip MC1. The User can click on DG1 and edit it, ok, no problem. But when the User begins to edit the content of a specific cell of DG1, I want to open a dedicated wizard in front of it. In the first step of that wizard popup (MovieClip MC2, child of MC1), there is another DataGrid (DG2) and I would like the User to be able to directly use the up and down keyboard arrows to browse the DG2 content without having to click it first.
But the keyboard events are then captured by DG1. I tried to use a stage.focus, setFocus, I triggered MouseEvents on DG2 but nothing to do, I have to physically click on it before the keyboard events are sent to it. So, my question is: how to, within MC1, tell Flash the keyboard events will be triggered on DG2 ? Can we ask DG1 to loose the (keyboard) focus ?

My problem: The the flash app I am working on, some of the controls are done with the keyboard. At certain points, you need to click on an on screen button to continue. When I do this, it seems the focus is lost from where it was, and I can no long use keyboard actions (such as the spacebar KeyboardEvent that works prior to clicking the mouse)
I will admit that I am a newcomer to Flash (only played with it for about a month now), and I don't know much about the focus stuff. Basically, I want to know how to set the focus back to where it was after the buttons are clicked.

Flex :: Debugging Focus And Keyboard Event Propagation In AS3
Dec 18, 2009I have a custom TitleWindow component that is registered to listen for keyboard events from the user (so that esc closes the window, enter saves, etc.). However, in my testing I've found a couple cases where my keyboard event handlers don't fire. My best guess as to why this is happening is that there is some child component somewhere that has stolen focus and is stopping the keyboard events from propagating.
Unfortunately, due to the large number of components in my TitleWindow, I have no good way of knowing who has stolen the focus. My question then is, are there any good tips / techniques / tools for debugging focus issues and event propagation in Flex? Basically, I need something that will tell me who has the focus at any given time and who's handling an event at any given time... is that possible?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Taking Off Focus Or Disabling Keyboard Input For Combo Box?
May 25, 2007So i have a combo box that a user can go a select different UI's with. In another pane i have a map that the user can press the arrow keys the move up, down, left right etc.
Only problem is that once i have selected a map from the combo box, the combo box stays in focus so that when i press an arrow key, the map moves but it also scrolls through my combo box.
Any way i can disable keyboard input to the combo box or remove the focus on the combo box?
I've tried creating a dummy button on the stage called "dummy" and when the change event happens on the combo box i switch the focus using
Selection.setFocus("dummy");
but then i get a recursion error and it stops my scripts.

It successfully gives the TextField "txt" focus because when I type, the characters appear in the input textfield, however the familiar blinking text cursor/beam does not appear in the textfield. This makes you think it does not have focus, so you click the textfield to give it focus -- completely defeating the purpose.

Oct 29, 2011I have a custom TextInput that listens for the FocusEvent.FOCUS_IN and FocusEvent.FOCUS_OUT events:

textDisplay.addEventListener(FocusEvent.FOCUS_OUT, onFocusOutHandler);
My onFocusInHandler function basically removes a "promptview" that tells the user to type in a value, with the onFocusOutHandler doing the opposite.
For example, if the TextInput text was backspaced to a blank value and the user clicks out of the TextInput box, it would show a "Please enter a value" light-gray prompt in the TextInput.
This works fine until the user clicks our custom "Clear" button. The clear button sets the text to "", and I can tell the FocusEvent.FOCUS_OUT is received because the prompt text is set to visible (its not being set anywhere else). The problem is, the cursor remains in the box as if it still has focus, so if the user immediately starts typing, both the prompt text "Please enter a value" and the user-entered text appears over the gray text, which looks pretty ugly and unreadable.
Why does the TextInput receive the FocusEvent.FOCUS_OUT event if it's not actually losing focus?

Jun 16, 2011I'm in and out of AS2 and it's been awhile.if this is possible to reliably create this state for an Input text field.Ideally the text area has some text in it as a prompt tot he user, and the cursor is blinking at the end of the prompt text. When the user clicks on the box, it resets to empty content and the user can type their question.I have the text area set up with prompt text, instance name. Tried this code and it does not work:[code]Right now when i click on it, the text prompt text remains and the cursor shows one line below the prompt text.

Sep 21, 2009Anyway, I have a game with keyboard input and mouse input, and after certain mouse inputs I want to set the focus back to the stage in order to continue listening for keyboard events. I have a simple method in the document class:

Where "theCommandLine" is a movieclip which gets attached, and is where I send the keyboard events to.
The problem I'm having is this: When the method gets called in internet explorer, it sets the keyboard focus to the URL bar, so you type stuff in, and then hit enter and it reloads the damn page.

You type a product in the TextInput control and then click on the "Add to cart" button to add it to the "cart" which is represented by the TextArea at the bottom.
That works ok.The problem is that I also want the user to be able to keep adding items to the cart without having to click on the "Add to cart" button. So, I added code to handle the enter event of the Textput by calling the same handler function triggered by the "Add to cart" Click event.If you type some content and then click the "Add to cart" button, the TextInput control receives the focus and the cursor, so you can type again.
However, if you hit enter, instead of clicking the button, the TextInput control keeps focused and you can see the cursor beam, but you can not enter text until you click elsewhere and come back to the control.Below you can see the relevant part of the code, with the definition of the component that groups the three controls at the top (Label, TextInput, Button).

May 4, 2009I want to have the caret (flashing cursor) to appear when I set the focus to a text field. It works fine when the user clicks on the text field.
the following does not seem to work for me:

When I try this it merely focuses on my text field and no caret comes up! mytxtfield is the instance name of my input type textfield.
Html :: Flex Textfield Doesn't Gain Focus When Cursor Is In Text Field Of Iframe
Sep 10, 2010I have a web page which has a SWF file embeded. I have an issue with the focus.
Steps to reproduce:
1)Click on a HTML Text Field which is inside a Iframe
2)Click on a Flex Field.
3)Begin to type some text.
Expected Result is the entered text should go in the Flex TextInput field but the actual Result is it goes into HTML text field.
This is the bug which was filed but closed without any resolution. The workaround suggested there doesnt work. ( bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-12377 )
This is happening only in IE 6.0 and IE 7.0. Below is the live example. [URL]

Oct 17, 2008I have a Flash movie which fills the whole browser window. This means that always the key events are catched ("stolen") by the Flash movie only, when using Firefox. IE7 seems to be working as I want.
I want for example ctrl+w (close window), ctrl+n (new window), ctrl+t (new tab) to work in Firefox while the focus is on my Flash movie. How to accomplish this?

When the movie starts, I call

But the mouse cursor is the regular arrow instead of a hand when I mouse over the button in the areas of the textField that has no text.
I've also tried calling buttonMode=true to the text field itself, but didn't work How can I make the cursor be a hand over the TLFTextField?
Actionscript 3 :: Flash TLFTextField Doesn't Invoke Soft Keyboard On IOS?
Apr 21, 2011I'm compiling a Flash project to an iPhone IPA file from the command line. I have an editable TLFTextField on the stage, but whatever I do, the softKeyboard on iOS won't pop up. Trying to set "needsSoftKeyboard" on the TLFTextField gives me an error when testing the movie via Flash: "property not found". The movie does load correctly on iOS, but still no keyboard pops up. It also doesn't matter if I put "pan" in the application descriptor file or not.
Basically I just want a keyboard to pop up to fill in text in an input field. What am I missing?
